Killings for the Good of Rome Not every story has a villain sometimes there are all heros doing the right thing for the greater good. That is the case for Julius Caesar because there is only multiple heroes. They are all doing what is best for the people. Julius Caesar, Brutus, and Antony are did what was best for the people, and some of them had to face some consequences for their actions. Julius Caesar was a congenial man always caring for his people and wanted what was best for his citizens. This was clearly seen sadly after his death in his will “He hath left you all his walks, His private arbours and new-planted orchards.” (II.iii) This is just a few things Caesar had left for his people. This act of generosity shows that Caesar actually cared for his people. He also wasn’t some kind of dictator or power hungry ruler because Julius had denied the crown three times, and the people even loved him they had an up roar when he denied the crown. After the speech of Brutus the people …show more content…
Brutus was a close friend to Caesar, and he didn’t kill Caesar because he didn’t like him. He did love Caesar, but his love for Rome was stronger and he didn’t want Caesar to ruin the great city he had even said “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more. Had you rather Caesar were living and die all slaves.” (III.ii). Brutus thought that Caesar was too ambitious and that would have ruined Rome, so he wanted the best for the citizens of Rome and killed Julius Caesar. However, Brutus wasn’t the only part of the killing of Caesar he was an accomplice along with Cassius and Casca, so he had some people who felt the same as Brutus. You could see that Brutus was a man with good morals because he didn’t want to kill Antony because he wanted the death of Caesar to be a sacrifice to the gods and not a blood bath. Antony didn’t take the death of his beloved friend well and was determined to avenge the death of
Julius Caesar affected roman life and culture in multiple ways. He created new jobs, and also gave public land to the poor. He also benefitted common people by alleviating taxes. He helped conquest land like Gaul, and helped expand the Roman Empire giving people more land, and created more job options at the same time. He made public buildings like theaters and libraries which would create job options, and also enhance the city’s appearance.
Julius Caesar made the Roman Empire the vast republic everyone remembers. Furthermore, Julius Caesar always wanted to help out the underprivileged people who lived in his empire. He started job aid programs to help out poor families who were barely getting by. He drained marshes for more arable farmland thus
Julius Caesar was a powerful man, who brought Rome up as a country. Caesar was truly the noblest Roman of all time. While he was in charge, he lead Rome to greatness. However this was not an easy task for him, he sacrificed himself to protect his people. This truly showed in the battle against Pompey, it took everything he had and all of his best warriors to win this war.
Historians may argue that Julius Caesar helped rome to make it better and stronger for the people. While this might be true this is misleading because all of Julius Caesar's good actions like giving people more jobs, but it just covered up his worse actions that hurt rome. Also Julius Caesar was named a awful man throughout history from not persevering in hard situations, hurting not helping rome, and doing things for himself. To begin with Julius Caesar was named a awful man from how he didn’t persevere in hard situations. One way he didn't persevere was when Sulla (the emperor of the time) ordered Julius to divorce Cornelia (his first wife) because she was from the family of Sulla's enemies.
Even his enemies knew he was honorable as said by Antony in Act V, Scene V, lines 68 through 72, “This was the noblest Roman of them all. All the conspirators save only he did that they did in envy of great Caesar. He only in a general honest thought and common good to all, made one of them.” Antony talks about how Brutus killed Caesar for good reasons and he was an honorable man who made smart decisions and loved those around him. Brutus may have fallen to his own mistakes but in the end he loved everyone around him and killed Caesar for the people's
In the reading “Killing Caesar” by Jon Herman the author gives evidence on both sides of the argument is Caesar a tyrant or a hero? Did Caesar deserve his horrific, and bloody killing in front of so many subjects? Caesar did not deserve this he was a hero to all around him. Caesar was a hero because he made sure to put his people above even himself.
Who was Julius Caesar was he a hero or a villain? Julius Caesar was a hero to many plebeians because he made many great accomplishments of the government , Rome, and for the poor. Some people might think he was a villain, but some people think differently. First of all, Julius Caesar did many great effects to Rome. Julius gave land to the landless, like the poor and veterans who didn’t have land before.
He put his self-interests aside, and placed the betterment of Rome before everything else. After becoming the Dictator for life, Caesar defeated his remaining enemies. He then gave his past enemies government positions in order to preserve peace. In this way, he attempted to preserve the ideal that Romans do not kill Romans to the best of his ability. He also allowed defeated foreigners to become citizens of Rome.
Julius Caesar was a great man and did great things for Rome. Julius completed every task he was told and one many wars making Rome a gold mine. Julius was love by almost all the people of Rome and did his best to please each and every citizen of Rome (even if they weren’t full citizens). Even though some most people would have preferred Caesar to
In conclusion, Brutus is not a villain. His conscience tells him that what he did was wrong and something had to be done about it, which ends in him killing himself. He shows lots of compassion throughout The Tragedy of Julius Caesar(JC) by William
And while Brutus did work in part with other conspirators, which eventually led to him killing Caesar, he did it for a more morally sound reason which was that Caesar was going to cause the downfall of Rome because he was too ambitious, which is ironic because Caesar's death led to a string of unfit leaders, and civil unrest that eventually led to the downfall of the roman empire. Brutus was also focused on preventing corruption. “The name of Cassius honors this corruption,/ And chastisement doth therefore hide his head (IV.iii.15-6)... Remember March, the ides of March remember./ Did not great Julius bleed for justice' sake” (IV.iii.18-9).
The final reason why Julius Caesar was a villain is the fact that he took action first without thinking about what the consequences would be. Some people might say that Caesar was a hero because he conquered new lands and saved Rome from the hardships of war. Except Caesar, like stated before, only cared about fame and wealth so, he sought out to conquer new lands when really he just started the wars and put Rome in a zone of danger. He started unnecessary wars without thinking about how the rise of taxes (due to the war) would affect the economic part of Rome and it’s citizens.
Julius Caesar was an exceptional hero to the Roman Empire. He made many reforms to help out his citizens and the empire. He changed the local government so that it could run more efficiently, he gave citizenship to foreigners, and he was a very kind leader to his citizens and to his enemies. To start off, Julius Caesar changed the local government of the Roman Empire. He altered it so that it could run more efficiently.
He is devoted and utterly selfless for the good of his country. For instance, Brutus stabs Caesar because he is tricked into thinking that the citizens fear Caesar. Keeping this in mind, Brutus kills Caesar to satisfy and ease his people, demonstrating that he prioritizes his country over his friendship with Caesar. Though Brutus ended Caesar’s life, Brutus still holds some loyalty to friends and says, “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved/ Rome more.” (3.2.50-60)
Lucius Junius Brutus one of Brutus’ ancestor that turned Rome into a republic. Brutus loves caesar but doesn't want him to become king. Brutus doesn't have a personal reason to kill Caesar but for the good of Rome he has to. The country of rome would fall to Caesar if he became king because he is corrupt.
