For many years it has been a derogatory term used to refer to the Africans, so why would you want to use this slur to refer to yourself and friends? The original definition for this word is a person who is ignorant, now it is used to describe an African American. While the original definition was in effect, many people still address each other as their ‘Nigga/Nigger’, but why?

There are many reason why I chosen the career of a district attorney. Getting a degree in political science can lead me into many other careers so I would not be limited. Becoming a district attorney requires difficult analyzing skills, critical thinking, and a motive for hard work. Being a district attorney will require rigorous work, time, and dedication prior to becoming a part of a county team. I have chosen the career path of a district attorney because it would give me a great challenge throughout my everyday life.

Growing up my parents instilled in me that I was beautiful and my skin was beautiful. It was clear to me that everyone else didn’t feel the same way. I went to a couple different schools throughout my life starting with a predominantly black school then a predominantly white school then a very diverse school and at each one I still experienced colorism. At the black school I was not liked because I was darkskin and my hair was kinky and I was just not as pretty as the light skinned girls.

I am writing to apply for the position of U.S. Probation Officer as advertised on your website. As shown by my resume, I have several years of experience in law enforcement and security management. As a correctional officer and Parole and Probation Agent dealing with crimes, I have had the chance to conduct several successful investigations displaying attention to details, sound judgment, and analytical skills. I have also gained practice in documenting cases, interviewing offenders, and using tact in dealing with victims and offenders. While my expertise has been gained mostly in the field with investigations of cases, I have also gained extensive experience in Collaborative Offender Management Enforcement Treatment (COMET).

African American women make up eight percent of the United States population, the women in this minority group deal with negative and positive stereotypes on a daily basis. These stereotypes are apparent within mainstream media. With today’s children having more access to media. now more than ever, they are subjected to these stereotypes at a young age (Adams-Bass, Bentley-Edwards, & Stevenson, 2014, n.p.). When blacks have more Afrocentric features like thick lips, bigger noses, or a darker skin tone, they are more likely to have a negative stereotype towards them (Conrad, Dixon, & Zhang, 2009, n.p.).

Over the course of many years, African Americans have influenced communities in many ways. African Americans have been used as slaves and segregated. After overcoming these struggles, they later were granted freedoms and rights. Many African American individuals have overcome these hard times and worked hard to achieve their dreams. Misty Copeland, Patricia Bath, and Madam C.J. Walker are courageous African-American women who have overcome racial stereotypes because of their determination to pursue what they love; Misty Copeland’s determination led her to pursue dance, and Patricia Bath and Madam C.J. Walker were strong, African American entrepreneurs.

How much of American history do you know? Black history is a part of America’s history, but why is it not deeply taught in schools? In schools we often talk about white American leaders or wars America has won, but not much history of other cultures in America. We may hear a little information about certain minority leaders who fought for a change, but not much facts. If today’s youth aren’t being taught about the thing’s their ancestors have gone through and all the things that has happened and why, many will grow up ignorant.

Women of color are the most targeted, prosecuted, and imprisoned women in the country and rapidly increasing their population within the prison systems. According to Nicholas Freudenberg, 11 out of every 1000 women will end up incarcerated in their lifetime, the average age being 35, while only five of them are white, 15 are Latinas, and 36 are black. These two groups alone make up 70 percent of women in prison, an astonishing rate compared to the low percentage comprise of within the entire female population in the country (1895). Most of their offenses are non-violent, but drug related, and often these women come from oppressive and violent backgrounds, where many of their struggles occurred directly within the home and from their own family.

When you look out at the world today; it won’t take you long to point out all the tragic and horrific things that are occurring daily which include: terrorism, the current refugee situation, genocide, poverty, and mass murders among many others tragedies. Currently in the world today, people desperately need more love than hate, more compassion than judgment, more grace than harshness, and more justice than inequity. These qualities are important (love, compassion, grace) in order to making a difference in the world today, but I want to focus on justice and how it affects people with disabilities. The online English-Oxford Dictionary defines justice as, “a concern for justice, peace, and genuine respect for people” I do not agree with this definition entirely; I believe the word justice is more accurately defined as, “respect and compassion for all people no matter what situation they are in.” I have not had any personal experience with the criminal justice system, but I have seen a beautiful picture of my definition of justice unfold in my freshman physical education class back

Growing up in the southside of queens’ public school is the typical for most African American in the neighborhood. But of course, my mom wanted to make sure I wasn’t just typical so for high school I had attend a private school. I was very eager to join a new school but also nervous but to get rid of nerves I joined various after school activities to meet new people and feel comfortable at school. I joined the girls’ basketball, I quickly noticed that I had been the only African American girl on the team, but I didn’t let that stop me from trying to improve my game and make new friends. As the basketball season went on I had noticed that not much of the girls would talk to me, but I continued to rub it off and made the best out of it.

Growing into the woman I am today I’ve learned that I am African American and very proud it. I also learned what comes with the title African American as well. Awareness of my culture started becoming apparent as well as the up and downs of being African

Do you think black children are better off at a predominantly white school or a predominantly black school? Black children are facing different problems in the school system. Kids get in trouble all the time but it seems Black kids get in trouble more? It might be that the teachers may not know how to handle them. Hair for instance, is a problem some black girls are dealing with.

In this week's journal I will be discussing; The Opening of the Black Panther movie and how the movie is more women ordination and the overall power that women held in these positions, and what ways black women excellence is shown in the movie. The main character may be the king T'challa who is the king of wakanda, but the women were the true focus on the film, and are extraordinary. These women are extraordinary based around the fact that. None of these women have superpowers during the movie and don't let this fact deter them from the task that they take on.
