Don’t Ditch Dodgeball
First they banned birthday celebrations at school. Now they’ve banned dodgeball. They’ve crossed the line. The principals at Elkton Maryland recently banned dodgeball from the physical education program because the say it is against what they teach in school. Also they banned it because they think it is inappropriate and is not aligned with the values taught in school. Principals removed it from the physical education curriculum which I think is over the moon ridiculous .I think they should not ban dodgeball.
I think the principals should not ban dodgeball because dodgeball is as fun as a fair. The ban ruins the fun of life, and eliminates the wisdom and joys that comes from games.I think the principals should only
Additionally, the Tinker v. Des Moines case stated, “...[i]t could not be justified by a showing that the students’ activities would materially and substantially disrupt the work and discipline of the school”(Tinker v. Des Moines School District). This just shows that it is very important that the court really emphasizes guaranteeing the absolute authority of the school officials, etc. so that there is some form of conduct in all
Amanda Ripley, the author of “The Case Against High-School Sports”, made many good points that can create much controversy when it comes to high-school sports, due to the cost and the academic problems it may be creating amongst the students. She interviewed many people who have experiences banning high-school in order to save money for their school district and the school itself. Ripley wants to bring into attention all the money that is used on high-school sports when districts tend to use a minimal amount on academics. I have come to an agreement with her point-of-views due to several reasons: sports are the main focus of any high-school that may have sports, the tax money being provided to the school district has been used on sports than
Authors often use persuasive techniques such as Ethos, Pathos, and Logos to help support the claim being made. In the articles “Position on Dodgeball in Physical Education,” by The National Association for Sport and Physical Education, and “The Weak Shall Inherit the Gym,” by Rick Reilly, both authors focus on using persuasive techniques to make claims about the relevance of dodgeball in physical education. To begin, in the article “Position on Dodgeball in Physical Education” the National Association for Sport and Physical Education uses Ethos and Pathos to support their claim on why Dodgeball should be banned from schools. For instance, when trying to explain the purpose of PE, the author states, “NASPE believes that dodgeball is not an
Dodgeball Debate The Perspective on Traditional Dodgeball being a activity for children to play is unsuitable. Traditional Dodgeballs purpose is to have fun and in which players try to hit opponents on the opposite team eliminating them, with an inflated ball. Traditional dodgeball shouldn’t be banned but . Not wanting to ban traditional dodgeball but also reflecting on being a inappropriate game is playing both views.
The principals removed it from the PE curriculum when they found out all of this was happening because of a silly game. They also removed games that are similar dodge ball like slaughter, prison ball, and other games that relate to the game. The vote to ban the game was 4-1, this happened very recently at Elkton Maryland.
Youth Tackle Football Why the interest in youth football lately? Youth football has been getting a bad rep lately because of concerned parents. Parents of football players are concerned for their child’s safety while playing tackle football. Plenty of cities and towns are banning youth football, because of concussions.
My opinion on dodge ball is they should get rid of it. Dodge ball is an elimination game and most of the people that are eliminated are weak and need more physical activity. So schools need to help and work with games that involve more physical activity and games that do not eliminate kids. Half of the time schools like to have everyone participate in everything and when you're eliminating people they are not participating. Another reason they banned dodge ball is because it's violent and inappropriate.
Dodgeball should be banned from physical education. In dodgeball, it's set to be the weak vs. the strong typically. The article ‘’Position on Dodgeball..’’ states, ‘’Many times these students who are eliminated first are also the ones with the least amount of confidence
High School Sports Should be Funded Every year 300,000 students are participating in sports (Gould 1). The School District has been funding the athletics program, which has been benefiting many of the students’ lives for several years. The discontinuation of high school sports will cause many students to loose the health, social and educational benefits provided by participating in athletics. The School District should continue to fund sports because they benefit students.
, the state Supreme Court noted that nothing in either the state constitution or statutes guarantees students an absolute right to participate in extracurricular activities, therefore there are no limitations of procedural or substantive due process as it pertained to a principal’s ability to determine a student’s ability to play if they have failed an advanced or honor’s
To close the article the authors ask the audience if “‘this [is] the type of game that [they] want [their] children to be exposed to?’” The group wraps up the article with this line to leave a lasting impression on the reader. This quote provokes emotions in parents who don’t want their children harmed. In short, the NASPE group uses emotional and ethical persuasive techniques to support their position. Through the use of comedy the author of “The Weak Shall Inherit the Gym,” Rick Reilly, uses pathos and logos to exhibit his position on the topic of dodgeball in physical education classes.
Youths should be banned from participating in sports such as dodge ball and cheerleading. Dodge ball should be banned in schools because stronger kids have an unfair advantage. Neil Williams, a professor of physical education at Eastern Connecticut State University states, “The game allows stronger kids to pick on and target the weaker kids”. (pg 171) .
Dalton Burke ELA Ryan 5/4/23 Dodgeball should not get banned in schools. Dodgeball should not get banned in schools all around the world because people love dodgeball and it encourages kids to play and be active. Dodgeball can also be very helpful for kids because it can teach hand-eye coordination and lightning-fast thinking. Dodgeball can also teach outstanding social skills and teamwork. Whenever people play dodgeball they always have a smile on their face.
But, according to , kids are now being thought new and enhanced techniques of playing the sport. The chances of injuries and concussions are rapidly decreasing. Therefore, kids should be allowed to play the sport. Moreover, it has been proven through many studies that active kids do better in school.
If you have ever been in sports or school athletics, act fast! Schools are getting rid of their sports and we need to stop it. “Being a student is harder than ever. You are being held to tougher academic standards-and so is your school.
