(Man/Woman): Before 1803, the United States was a smaller country than it is now. America only had land in the east coast. But, in 1803, the United States bought a lot of land from France. This land was from the east coast, almost all the way to the west coast. After this, the United States was very large. However, very few Americans had ever been to the new land. There were no maps of the new land either. So, in 1803, the president of the United States sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. They went all the way to the West Coast of the United States and drew hundreds of maps. They were the first Americans to ever do this. (121 words)

What do you think? Some brain scientists, called “neuroscientists”, are starting to think that humans are not the smartest animals. Scientists have found that animals with more “folds” in their brains, are usually smarter. Scientists have also found that dolphins have more “folds” in their brains that humans. Dolphins can also do a lot of things that most animals cannot do. For example, Dolphins call other Dolphins names. This is incredible because humans are the only other animals that do this. Dolphins might also be able to do very complex thinking, but it is very difficult for scientists to test this, so scientists but can’t 100% prove they are smarter than humans. (117
Being the president, Jefferson had wanted the recently gained land to be explored to be aware of what it contained. As a result, the United States' government provide money to Meriwether Lewis and William Clark for exploration. This was known as the Lewis and Clark Expedition which had taken place from May 1804 to November 1805 when Lewis and Clark explored the territory. Stated by Heather LeBlanc, “Along the way they charted trails, mapped river and mountain ranges, collected samples and wrote descriptions of unfamiliar plants and animals, and recorded facts about the Native American tribes they encountered along their journey.” The discovery of these untapped resources allowed the Americans to make profit by selling them to other country’s that did not contain them.
In the beginning, Thomas Jefferson had just bought the Louisiana Territory. He needed someone to explore and map all of the land. This task, he gave to his friend Meriwether Lewis. Lewis then asked his friend, William Clark to be his companion. The two men set off on the expedition in 1804.
President Jefferson wanted to explore the west because in some of the books he had he read that there would be resources that would be very helpful to
On May 2, 1803, President Thomas Jefferson doubled the size of the United States through a treaty with Napoleon Bonaparte that negotiated the possession of the territory west of the Mississippi River, alias the Louisiana Purchase. Adamant on finding a viable waterway that connected the Missouri River to the Pacific in hopes of strengthening commerce, Jefferson appointed Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to venture into the uncharted region. Although the desired water route proved to be nonexistent, the Corps of Discovery Expedition managed to redeem itself by bringing insight into the economic potential and characteristics of the land as well as endless encounters with the land's flora, fauna, and natives. Preliminary Preparations Jefferson's resolution when it came to the unearthing of the unprecedented secrets held by the western part of North America was implacable.
They had to go to the newly bought Louisiana territory which no one knew about. This increased the United States size 2x. They needed to find this waterway to communicate and to export goods around the world. People would also use this waterway to transport. During this expedition they figured out how big the newly purchased land is.

the Lewis & Clark expedition, or the Corps of Discovery, began in 1804 and was given permission by President Thomas Jefferson to venture into the newly purchased western territories of Louisiana. France sold the United States the entire territory of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. This enormous tract of land “doubled the size of the United States” empire and was sold to us for “less than three cents per acre” (First Americans, pp. 251). The expedition was headed by two men named Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. Their goals included exploring, mapping, and documenting every aspect of discovery along the Missouri River all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
Many countries went through changes like the U.S. The U.S grew physically by gaining more land, it grew politically through making the government stronger, and it grew socially by people gaining opportunities and rights. The U.S was originally 13 states. Thomas Jefferson bought land from France to expand the country. This event in history was called the ‘Louisiana Purchase’.
Before The Corps of Discovery’s journeys in the west, no country, not even France or Spain who previously owned the land, had any idea what exactly was in the Louisiana Territory. Everyone knew that new land, resources, and people awaited them, but no one was really sure of the certainties. Thanks to The Corps of Discovery, the western frontier was finally mapped and completed documented in every way possible. This would lead to the migration of Americans from the eastern seaboard to the Mid-West, the Rocky Mountains, and the western seaboard. Cities such as San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, and Kansas City slowly started to develop throughout the west.
Right now though people think that the human is much smarter than a dolphin even if they remember each other's names for years until they forget. This

Thomas Jefferson made a deal with France for the purchase of nearly 827,000 square miles of land that is currently home to numerous states west of the Mississippi river system. The Westward Expansion all started when America made the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. There were many benefits from the purchase for the US that the French didn’t realize before they sold it. The purchase gave the US access to the Mississippi river which allowed for expansion of river trade to the North and South from the center of the US. The port city of New Orleans was bought by the US and its prosperity benefited the US greatly. The US sent Lewis and Clark west to investigate the land they purchased.
The Westward Expansion consisted of almost 7 million Americans migrating west, hoping to get land and be wealthy. It is often called Manifest Destiny, because many people believed settlers was intended to expand the west. Because so many people thought this way it was also thought the U.S was physically separated from Europe. This migration of people included people from Spain, France, Mexico, and other countries. The Western Expansion had a part in the foreign policies in the expansion towards the pacific and the way the U.S treated their relationship with other
