Why Did The North Win The Civil War

The American Civil War lasted from 1861 to 1865 and was the costliest conflict in American history. It was a war between the Union and the Confederacy over slavery and the right of states to secede from the Union. The South seceded because they believed President Abraham Lincoln would abolish slavery. President Lincoln led the Union forces, while General Robert E. Lee led the Confederacy. The battles resulted in over 620,000 casualties.

Why the North Won the Civil War is a compact and concise collection of essays, that are short and get straight to the authors point. This book was compiled after the second meeting of the Gettysburg Conference on the Civil War, in 1958. The five contributing authors are all scholars of the Civil War and each have a different take on the question “why the North won?” Each chapter is a different authors presentation from the conference, each one looks at a different problem dealing with operation, direction, or conduct of the war by the armies and leadership of both the North and the South.

A grueling three-year battle between the North and the South ended with a drawn-out victory for the North with the Civil War being the bloodiest war in American history. However, there is far more to how this battle was won to bring the South back to rejoin the Union and to abolish slavery. The importance of the bullet, telegraph, and railroad system are the three biggest and surprising factors that lead to the North’s victory. First, the major game-changing discovery was the manufacturing of the mini ball.

The Civil War was a battle of great importance to our history of the United States. On April 12th, 1861 this battle broke out between the Union States, North, and the Confederate States, such as the South. The Civil War took place all throughout the United states, and did not come to an end until the Union won the war on May 9, 1856. So, our question of “What caused the Civil War”, comes with three important answers. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were Economic, Social, and Political differences.

The North had beaten the South in the Civil War. The North won the war for many reasons; they had some advantages over the South, a great leader, and the desire to win. The North and South fought many battles before the Civil War ended. Each battle had a different outcome and some encouraging the fight and some ended in despair.

The first main cause of the Civil War was economic differences between the Northern and Southern states. During the first few decades of the 19th century, the North had an industrial revolution that brought an economy that relied on laborers. While at the same time, the South continued to rely on slaves for their farming and the production of cotton. The Northerners did not need slaves for their economy, but the Southerners could not make any profit without cotton or slaves. In the 1860’s, the North had twice as many railroads as the South, and the South had a bigger cotton production because of their slave population (Document A).

In order to change history so that the Confederacy wins the Civil War, I would kill two influential people to the Union cause: Joshua L. Chamberlain and Ulysses S. Grant. I would make sure that Chamberlain was killed during in combat on Little Round Top during Gettysburg before he called for the swinging gate maneuver. If Chamberlain was unable to initiate the swinging gate maneuver that led to a Confederate defeat on Little Round Top, then the Confederates would have eventually overtaken the outgunned Union troops. By securing Little Round Top, The Confederates would have the perfect vantage point to attack and fire on the Union army, and such casualties could have led to a Confederate victory at Gettysburg.

The American Civil War was a civil war in the United States from April 12, 1861, to April 9, 1865. The warfare was fought between the Union, led by Abraham Lincoln, and the Confederacy, led by Jefferson Davis. Despite engaging in the same war, the Union and the Confederacy had distinct motivations for fighting. The Northern States fighting for the reunification of the United States of America, soon fought to abolish slavery. Whereas the Southern States wanted to protect their states' rights, especially their established life to slavery.

The North and the South had very many strengths and weaknesses during the Civil War. The civil war begun by the disagreements of how one side (The South) wanted to expand slavery.

How the Civil War Came to Be Was the Civil War very “civil” at all? The Civil War had many factors that led into it but there was one major factor that started the war. Slavery was one of the biggest factors in the Civil War. There was a big issue that divided the North and South which was slavery. The wide spread of slavery was a big deal to most Americans; but some were not the biggest fans of the concept.

Eleven states grew into the south. The other states that were not involved with declaring secession were known as the union or north.

The United States were split into two groups the Union and the Confederacy. The North was the Union which was against slavery.

The Civil War happened between North, the Union and South, the Confederates. Even though South was having brilliant generals like Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson, South was not having enough of resources to win the war. South was lacking on men, weapons, horses, food, and so many other factors. The Union was much stronger compared to the Confederates. There were only 9 million people in South troops whereas 22 million people in North troops.

The Civil War is characterized as the bloodiest war in American History. From 1861 to 1865, the North and South fought over several of disagreements and encounters. The Civil War caused hundreds and thousands of men to lose their life, about 620,000 soldiers had died. The Civil War was fought in Pennsylvania, Texas, New Mexico, and Florida. Civil War began because the North wanted to abolish slavery, the South seceded from the Union, and the North overpowered the South.

The North had many advantages over the South the helped them win the civil war. These reasons included a central leadership, more resources, and recruiting black men for their armies. These reasons helped the North win the civil war and play a big part in how successful they would be. With having advantages, better tactics when fighting, and also a higher population, the North would use strategic planning to fight the South and ultimately win the civil war.
