Jacob Kaeser Ms.Etsell Writing 8/10 3/7/23 Caroline Herschel lived a great life where she overcame roadblocks and achieved great feats. There are 3 reasons for why she is like that. The three reasons are, she has received great awards, and she has made great contributions to the astronomy community. My first reason for Caroline Herschel overcoming great roadblocks and achieving great feats is all the accomplishments and awards she has received. Caroline was the first ever woman to discover a comet. Also, according to space.com she was the first woman to be officially recognized into a scientific position. Caroline also discovered 14 nebulae. This is large as 14 nebulae is a lot of nebulae. Also, she received the Gold Medal of the Royal …show more content…

This is big because it means she is quite literally royal. According to Agnesscott.com, Caroline was also given the gold medal of science by The King of Prussia. The King of Prussia gave her the Gold Medal of Science for her life's accomplishments. According to Nasa.gov, two of her astronomical catalogs are still in use today. This is important because of how long ago she lived. She lived hundreds of years ago but yet the things she made are still used. She was also the first ever female astronomer to be paid. According to rmg.co.uk, one thing that she did that was really impressive is that the last comet she discovered she discovered using the naked eye. She looked into the sky, and spotted it. She didn’t even use a telescope. Finally, according to rmg.co.uk, she received many accolades for her discoveries. These …show more content…

According to nasa.gov, She helped her brother develop the modern mathematical approach to astronomy. This is huge. The mathematical approach still used today, was developed by her. An approach all astronomers have to use, was created by her and her brother. Secondly, two of the astronomical catalogs published by Caroline Herschel are still in use today. An astronomical catalog is a list of astronomical objects. This also huge for her. Some of the lists of objects in the sky that she made are still being used today to study astronomy. She discovered so much that they don’t even need to change the lists. They still use the exact same ones. Caroline also cataloged nearly 3000 stars. That is an insane amount. She found 3000 new stars and then wrote them all down. On top of all of these things used today, she found 3 nebula. 3 is a lot of nebula. A nebula is a cloud where stars form. Some people might say, the work astronomers do gets recognized all the time, but Caroline died 175 years ago. The work she did and things she made 175 years ago is still being used. In conclusion, Caroline Herschel lived a great life where she overcame roadblocks and achieved great feats. By reading this you should now know the roadblocks she overcame and her achievements.
