Most of the women on my mother’s side were teen moms without a college degree, some without a high school diploma and all were single. I plan to not continue this cycle. Growing up, I saw how my mom struggled to find a career she enjoys with just her high school diploma, even though she is a very intelligent person.

When I think about the person I am today I think about the people that have helped raise me. We all grow up with different experiences, environments, lifestyles, and people in our lives who help shape who we are. One person that has made a big impact in my life would be my nana and her name is Bea Wilson. She has been in my life since the moment I was born. My nana has shown me that you can make something good out of bad situation.

She had no reason to help us that one day in church; she did it purely out of the love in her heart. She was very generous. She had a son who claimed to be disabled and refused to work. She never kicked him out was and she worked until her 80’s to support the two of them. She was very religious so she always had hope for tomorrow’s world.

She sends me care packages, sends me money, make sure that I am still doing well, helps me with financial things, teaches me about the adult world, helps me with my taxes, prays for me on a daily basis, motivates and encourages me not to drop the batton, and many other acts that are greatly appreciated and needed. My family is looking up to me, everyone tells me that they are cheering for me and to keep pushing no matter what I endeavor. It is not easy, sometimes I thinking up but failure is not an option. I have younger people looking up to me as a role model. I am showing them what to do and how to become an inspiration while being inspired.

Growing up I could remember my mother who is a nurse always loving and helping others. Thanks to her passion for helping and caring for others, I developed the heart to want care for others especially those who aren’t able to care for themselves. Being the eldest child I would always help my mother take care of my sibling. You could say I was their second mom. I love my mother dearly and she will forever be my role model in life.
