White Person Stereotypes

Other people stereotype me by saying I am “basic” I’m not really sure what that meant so I asked around and I got the answers to my questions. A “basic white girl” is someone who wears leggings, fake tans, ½ zip from pink, wears earrings, wears makeup, wears fake eyelashes, wears lipstick, wears uggs, and doesn’t follow sports, nor knows what a “sport” is. When I got told I was a basic white girl at first I did not think anything of it until I asked around and found out what the basic white girl is. After I found out I felt confused I wasn’t sure how to react to that but then I started thinking to myself and asked myself why people thought that

Every human being belongs to a specific type of race or possibly multiple races depending on his/her background. As a population, society views their fellow citizens according to their certain race. For some, culture and traditions of their own race means everything to them and these people are proud of who they are and where they come from. However, for some races their background and pride carries burdens.

Annotated Bibliography Introduction: Examine different kinds of advertisements and the problem at hand with how they perpetuate stereotypes, such as; gender, race, and religion. Thesis: The problem in society today is in the industry of social media. In efforts to attract the eye of the general population, advertising companies create billboards, commercials, flyers and other ads with stereotypes that are accepted in today’s society. Because of the nations’ cultural expectation for all different types of people, advertisement businesses follow and portray exactly what and how each specific gender, race, or religion should be.

Today's society paints African Americans in such a negative light, growing up it seemed like everyone expected blacks to fail. No matter how "white" we talked, how we did our hair, where we lived or how many non-people of color we surrounded ourselves with, it seemed like the outside world saw us all the same; as people who are incapable of achieving. As I grew in wisdom and stature with this melanin graced skin, there was always something that was structurally in place to discourage me from becoming a successful self loving black woman. Anglo Saxon beauty and supremacy overpowering the media encouraged people to make comments about my worth. I constantly fell victim to people's condescending tone and actions before they realize my vocabulary supasses most adults.

The label of white trash even existing is seen to be appalling because of the former notion of white citizens being the alphas and that angered other White Americans(Eastman & Schrock pg 207). Stereotypes were and are a problem but Southern Rock & Roll musicians embraced theirs and appropriated with it because of capitalism. While no one deserves to be put into a category based on prejudice, White Americans made their stereotypes a positive while minorities struggled and still continue to struggle everyday due to stigmas placed on them. Different classes of White Americans were discriminatory against one another. If you were to portray this white trash image, you’d go against the grain so to speak and denounce their privilege.

There is a group that is frequently misrepresented and discriminated within American society. That group is the black community. African Americans, though having more rights than ever before, are still greatly stereotyped through media, in a negative and an undesirable manner. When I say the words African American most people think of crime, violence, drugs and watermelon, to name a few. “Straight Outta Compton” by the N.W.A. enforces the negative stereotype of African Americans through promoting narcotics, guns, and murder.

It’s amazing to see how stereo types have changed over time. Today there are many stereotypes that say that African Americans cannot swim. Dawson stated that hundreds of years ago, the stereotype was African Americans could only swim well because they were closest to animal decent (13). Now a days, there is little talk about the past, and how judgements have changed. Personally, I didn’t know about the past that African Americans were one of the best swimmers.

Stereotyping occurs when a person assumes that every member of a society or subculture has the same characteristics or traits. Whenever we make judgements about people without knowing them, we are stereotyping them. There are various types of stereotypes, but the most common ones are racial stereotypes and gender stereotypes. Race, nationality, gender, and sexual orientation are the main factors of stereotyping. All Blacks are great basketball players and All Muslims are terrorist are examples of Racial Stereotypes.

There are lots of major problems in our society and one huge problem is racial stereotypes. People take it very serious and you can see it happening everywhere in the world and it needs to change. During the segregation days the whites would treat the blacks like trash they were racist and they had to do everything separate. The whites thought that blacks people messed everything up or either they didn't know what they were doing and one stereotype they use to use is all black people did not amount to anything they had to be walked through everything.

How has colonialism affected our world through its own propagation of stereotypes? In today’s present, images of stereotypes are ubiquitous as they are distributed again and again by the media. The media in itself hands out these caricatures of colored women and men, while presenting complex shows of the white man. We see it in the three works of “Alright” by Kendrick Lamar, “The Danger of a Single Story” by Chimamanda Adichie, and “Pearl of the Orient” by The Jam Handy Organization. In this, stereotypes recur as an overall theme and its interaction with the “white man” or the oppressor.

For the past couple of centuries, racial stereotypes have been a problem that many have faced, and are still facing, throughout the world. Many people question what stereotyping is and how it affects people. Racial stereotyping is when a person judges another person based on their race’s fixed characteristics (Pickrell). To this day, racial stereotypes have gotten out of hand and continue to cause not only racism, but also segregation. People today use negative assumptions against African Americans, Latinos and other races.

Today and throughout history, people of color have had to face a vast amount of discrimination towards themselves, throughout their day-to-day lives. However, many people have fought to end discrimination and the inexcusable mistreatment of others. Numerous individuals took a stand against the inequality and prejudice viewpoints of many American citizens. In the effort to do so, they have brought justice to those affected by the hatred provoked by the time period. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Thurgood Marshall have greatly impacted society and the lives of copious individuals.

For most of my life, I was a socially inept introvert. At any given time during the weekends, one could find me in my room playing video games or reading a book. The effort I made to make friends at school was minimal and my conversations topics were limited to school and video games. I had some friends, but I would describe them as lukewarm. The friendship was never tight or meaningful.

What is racism? Racism is making discrimination or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one 's own race superior. Racism is when someone judges you based on what race you are, or what skin color. Also that people think that that just because you are a certain race you can do something or be good at something even though you are not. People treat someone else differently because of their race and treats the same race as their equal.

Stereotype are a big issues in today society, some people overestimate other just knowing where are they from or what religion they follow. I have heard many times people overestimate other with stereotype like “all the Jews help themselves” and “all the Asians are good at math”. However, as well as overestimated stereotype underestimated stereotype has negative effects on people, stereotype like “Women do not know how to drive” and “Black Dudes Are Super Violent By Nature” are two that I have listen the most. There are many people that fail judging an entire culture by the behavior of some of their people. I think that analyzing, knowing and being in the shoes of others are 3 steps to overcome underestimated and overestimated stereotyped thinking.
