Where Is Here Analysis

When I was younger, I went to Legoland for my birthday. It was my dad, my mom, and I who went since my sister was not born yet. At one point during the day, my dad and I went to the water park and had a lot of fun. Then when we were finished, we went to find my mom. Being a whiny child I once was, I complained that the floor was burning my feet and asked my dad if I could walk on the side where it was not hot. My dad said yes and so I went to the side. Then when I got to the end of the shady side, I looked for my dad but could not find him. I panicked and went back and forth, trying to find my dad or mom. For a while, I could not find them, so I started crying and scared that I would not see them ever again. A nice lady helped me as she saw me crying, and got help from employees to find my parents. Once I found them, I was happy but the day was ruined because of that and we went home. The transformation in my story was when it went from all fun and games to being isolated from my parents and scary. Transformation does create fear into the reader. This can be seen in the following three stories as well. “Where Is Here” by Joyce Carol Oates, “House Taken Over” by Julio Cortazar, and “The Fall of the House of Usher” by Edgar Allan Poe all show transformation from how the setting and the mood is normal and changes to …show more content…

Oates shows that in her story, “Where is Here,” because the house changes to old and broken and the family follows to that as well. Cotazar shows that in “House Taken Over” because he uses it with the characters and mood of the story from all ordinary to odd and mysterious. Poe shows transformation in “The Fall of the House of Usher” because it changes the mood and how the characters act suddenly from odd to horrified. This is why transformation causes fear to the reader as they read a story, because of the alterations from one tone to
