The Freedmen's savings and trust Company was created by United States congress officials. The Freedmen's saving and trust company were formed into a legal corporation on March 3, 1865, and was then referred to as the Freedmen's Bank. The Freedman's saving and Trust Company was a private corporation that was run by the U.S government to encourage and guide the economic development of newly freed African American communities. The amendment was significant to the reconstruction era because this was the moment that all were waiting for: the ratification of this amendment meant the freemen of all slaves. The thirteenth amendment was created to abolish slavery, it declared, "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, nor any place subject to their jurisdiction." The amendment was created after the Civil war as a part of the Reconstruction movement. While many may see the amendment as a promise for African Americans, the amendment held loopholes for future arrangements. The 13th amendment was created to keep the concept of slavery legal. Following the ratification of the 13th amendment, many petty laws began to surface. These laws specifically target African Americans; to ensure they go to jail and are legally submitted back into slavery. Some of the political parties include the democratic, republican, constitution and green party The Republican party was then known as the radicals. Republicans often made their presence and power known. The radicals believed that Lincoln's ten percent plan was quite lenient in his efforts to get the rebellious states to come back to the union. The goal of reconstruction was to get Southern states to come back to the Union under the terms and conditions of the Union. It is said that the Union stood for the full political and civil equality for blacks. And in order for the rebellious states to be readmitted 10 percent of their voting population would have to take an oath in agreeance with the Unions rights. This would result in the southern states incorporating these rights and requirements into their constitutions. This allowed African Americans the rights to
Freedman 's Savings Gets Overdue Props In 1865, Congress established the Freedman’ Savings and Trust Co. with the purpose of helping former slaves build wealth. The bank closed in 1874 even though over 100,000 black Americans had deposited over $57 million in the Washington D.C. headquarters and the 37 city branches that spanned 17 states in just 10 years. According to Black Enterprise, the bank started strong, but a number of bad investments, financial mismanagement, and the expense of building a new headquarters building in Washington, D.C. wiped out its assets.
Following the Civil War, the Republican party controlled Congress during the period of Reconstruction. In 1865, Congress approved the Freedmen’s Bureau in order to help African Americans adjust to freedom. This agency believed that economic stability was a critical requirement for freedom; therefore, Congress also endorsed the Freedman’s Savings and Trust Company, sometimes referred to as the Freedman’s Savings Bank. Several ads and articles appeared in various nineteenth century newspapers to inform and encourage African Americans to deposit their money into this bank. When the bank first opened in 1865, ads always mentioned that it was chartered by Congress and ran by trustworthy officials.
What the 13th amendment did was make slavery illegal in the United States , how the Dred Scott case had an effect on this was that when Northerners had heard about this they were upset about how he had lived in Illinois , one of their free states , as a slave. The fact that Dred Scott lost his case because he was not considered a citizen , so therefore he could not make a case in the first place , is one of the things that lead to the 14th amendment. The 14th amendment gave all people equal protection under the constitution , so if something similar to Dred Scott’s case were to happen it would not matter what race or history that person had , they now have the right equal and fair

When this amendment was passed, in 1865, it was largely for the African Americans. In our society, we can apply this law to other types of slavery. For example, sex trafficking is illegal because of the 13th
Before, during, and long after the Civil War blacks were discriminated against in almost every form of life. They had to fight and be patient to be accepted as equals among their white counterparts; this process took form over a long period of time, and after many failures, blacks were truly equal in the eyes of the government. The thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth amendments which were passed in the late 1860’s were supposed to bring political, social, and economic equality for the blacks; however, this was not the case, while in some facets of life blacks obtained more freedoms they had to wait many years after these amendments were passed to be fully equal to whites. The thirteenth amendment abolished slavery in the United States.
“Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice. suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals” (Martin Luther King, Jr.). Based on the Constitution, equality has the possibility of being achieved because amendments can be placed in order to get closer to it. Also the Constitution has shown no discrimination to a certain group of people, and instead has tried to push the idea of equality to the next level. Although people, in the past, have been through many harsh events, the Constitution has always made a way to repair its mistakes.
The 13th amendment deals with the abolition of slavery. The 14th amendment regards citizenship. The 15th amendment states that the government can not prohibit the right to vote based on “race, color, or previous condition of servitude.” Not only did Reconstruction bring about the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, but when looking back at history it is very visible to see the impact Reconstruction made. Reconstruction provided that first glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel for African Americans, and several other social minorities to come, and their equality and civil

In the US, incarceration rates disproportionately affect men of color. 1 in 3 black men will go to prison sometime in their life. For every 15 African American men, 1 is imprisoned, while only 1 in every 106 white men is incarcerated. With the 13th amendment to the Constitution, slavery was abolished, but with one condition.

The reconstruction period, “did create the essential constitutional foundation for further advances in the quest for equality”. It laid the building blocks for the future building for civil rights not just for blacks but women and other minorities. Former slaves, “ found comfort in their family and in the churches they established”. Blacks took community in each other and bonded over the mutual idea of freedom .
The 14th amendment is just as important today as it was to the reconstruction era because it granted citizenship to former slaves and any person born on American soil, gave every citizen equal protection under the law, and it upholds the 13th amendment by stating that any U.S. State that does not abide by every citizen’s rights will be punished. The 14th amendment was passed on May 10th 1866. It is broken down into five sections. Section one gives anyone born or neutralized on American soil citizenship.
Angela Davis Once said “Well for one, The 13th Amendment to the constitution of the U.S. which abolished slavery, did not abolish slavery for those convicted of a crime.” Although the amendment was desperately needed it made more problems for the U.S.The thirteenth amendment was about abolishing slavery.
