Jordin Scott 3/1/23 Pd. 8 Enduring Issues Essay The impact of new technology has affected society throughout our history and continues to help and hurt mankind. The impact of new technology can be defined as modern innovations used to make certain tasks easier for people, and how they affect humans around the world . Often in history technology is applied to warfare and military weapons. From WWI to present-day Ukraine, innovations like machine guns, atomic bombs, and even artificial intelligence have been used and largely impacted countries around the world in different ways. The technology used was the reason why World War I was so deadly. WWI was a war from 1914 to 1918 between the Allied …show more content…
WWII was close to an end with the Allied forces winning, however Japan would refuse to surrender to the U.S. That was when a new weapon at the time, an atomic bomb, was in the hands of the U.S and was experimented with. The bomb was launched at a city in Japan called Hiroshima and demolished it. This issue of new technology affected the people of Hiroshima by causing many deaths and everlasting destruction, similar to WWII. Document 2 states how the city’s rivers were filled with corpses of people desperately seeking water and destroyed buildings. The people of Japan were wondering how a single bomb could do that much damage considering a standard bomb used in war could never be that powerful. However with the ongoing improvements of technology over time, weapons can have a bigger impact on the aftermath. Even if people were to survive the blast of this powerful bomb, they would still be exposed to its radiation. This led to victims getting diseases such as cancer. This demonstrates the significance of the impact of new technology since this new warfare caused mass destruction to Japan, as well as going on to become much deadlier later on, such as the H bomb or Tsar bomb, risking world wide
On the clear mornings of August 6 and 9, 1945, the first atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagaski. Gigantic clouds of ominous dark smoke stained the sky, signaling the end of a seemingly incessant war. Americans and Europeans rejoiced throughout the world; many lives were spared from the brutality of continuing the war. Although this was an extremely hard decision to make and the results were devastating, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a military necessity. To begin, America had already seen how ruthless and cruel the Japanese could be.
World War II was the bloodiest war in world history that led to reorientation of both economic and social axiomatic patterns such as new conserving methods and contributing to the war effort. The violence between the United States and Japan, beginning with the bombing of Pearl Harbor, led to hundreds of thousands of casualties for both countries. To ensure a rapid victory for the United States, atomic bombs were dropped at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These nuclear bombs were authorized, to be used at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, by President Harry Truman. The decision to deploy atomic bombs in Japan was the wrong decision, due to the dwindling Japanese military power already leading to a surrender, the massive amounts of destruction brought upon Japan
It was a calm August morning in the year 1945, and citizens were out living their lives as normal, getting groceries, playing at the park, and walking to work, little did everyone in what was the beautiful town of Hiroshima know, there was an atomic bomb right above their heads. Boom. Simultaneously 70,000 innocent lives were lost. 30,000 more lives were taken later on due to the atomic bomb. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the two Japanese cities that the United dropped the Atomic Bomb on in 1945 to try & bring an end to World War 2.
In 1945 World War 2 was coming to an end, President Truman was faced with a very tough decision on whether or not to drop the atomic bombs on Japan. On August 6 1945 an American B-29 bomber dropped the worlds first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, three days later another B-29 bomber dropped a second bomb on the city of Nagasaki in total the bombs killed well over a hundred thousand people. The use of the atomic bombs were necessary to end the war on Japan, although the bombs killed many people the use of the bombs saved hundreds of thousands of American lives, and eneded Japan’s reign of terror on the world. People believed that with only two atomic bombs ready that it was too risky to use one on a demonstration showing off the power of the bomb.
The atomic bomb brought the war to a quick end and prevented many more casualties from
The United States urged Japan to surrender after attacking Hiroshima, but they refused. The U.S. then used its second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. Fortunately, the bomb did not destroy the world, it did, however, had devastating consequences. Thousands of people were killed instantly, and cities, and homes were destroyed. It is predicted that over 200,000 citizens died from both direct impact and radiation exposure.
The atomic bomb killed and devastated many innocent people in an attempt to end the war. Document G is a first hand source, giving a true insight into the complete wreckage and carnage the bombs caused. Document B argues that this was the only way to end the war because it was very hard to go against the suicide bombers and flyers in Japan but the bombs only caused more fatalities and destruction to the innocent lives of people across Japan, not leaving any person out of the utter desolation they
The United States dropped atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, on August 6th and August 9th of 1945, respectively. This event resulted in the death of an estimated 200,000 Japanese people, a lot of which were civilians, and it remains as one of the most controversial topics in world history. People are divided on the belief that it was necessary or that it was unnecessary, each with their own valid points to back up their reasoning, yet, the bombing of Japan had more pros than cons and therefore was most definitely a necessary action in World War II. Most view the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese as the reason for the bombing of Japan, there are a multitude of overlooked factors that were also partially the cause of the
The total number of deaths after one year was approximately 118,000 (Harris). The impact of the bomb was devastating in numbers. The atomic bomb was the first and biggest dropped on Japan. The force of the ‘Little Boy’ was extremely big and very powerful. As the attack on Hiroshima was in progress Japan was shocked and weakened in a matter of hours (“Hiroshima”).
Furthermore, it is difficult to justify the use of atomic bombs on civilian populations, especially given the fact that Japan was already on the verge of surrendering. While it is true that war is a brutal and messy business, the use of atomic bombs represents a new level of inhumanity and disregard for human
On August 6 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima,Japan, killing a estimated total of 140,000 people. The second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki,on August 9,killing an estimated 70,000 people. The bombings were considered as a turning point of World War II as it resulted in an unprecedented loss of civilian lives and inflicted long-lasting health consequences on others. Many historians still debate the decision to use atomic weapons. The historical background of the decision to drop atomic bombs involved was that by the time the bombs were dropped the war in Europe had already ended with Germany's surrender in May 1945.
The document explains that "The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender..." (Document F). The document explains that with this being the bomb's first use, it showed a "ethical standard common to barbarians from the Dark Ages". The bomb was used in a city, leading to the deaths of countless women and children, and not the deaths of countless troops. Document F shows the meaninglessness of the bomb, and what it actually
Document 7 states “The Japanese had demonstrated near-fanatical resistance, fighting to almost the last man on Pacific islands, committing mass suicide on Saipan and unleashing kamikaze attacks at Okinawa. Fire bombing had killed 100,000 in Tokyo with no discernible political effect. With only two bombs ready (and a third on the way by late August 1945) it was too risky to "waste" one in a demonstration over an unpopulated area such as Tokyo’s harbor. Only the atomic bomb could jolt Japan's leadership to surrender.”
It caused so much damage towards all these innocent people. An example of an effect that happened towards someone after the bomb was dropped is on the 6th document, which says, “All over the right side of of my body was bleeding.” This is what one person out of the thousands of others that got affected had to deal with, maybe even worse. Adding to this, many lives were taken away, innocent lives. In document 3 it states, “The face of war is the face of death; death is an inevitable part of every order that a wartime leader gives.
The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki happened during World War II. World War II was coming to a close and the Japanese were holding on to what little land they had claimed. Meanwhile allowing their people and the people in the surrounding countries to starve. This is because the Japanese would not have surrendered without the bombings, there would have been more Asian civilian casualties had the war gone on, and finally that the Invasion of Japan would have resulted in more American casualties. The evidence clearly shown through historical documents will justify that the bombings were catastrophic and caused many civilian casualties, but was necessary to end World War II.
