What Is Heracles 13th Labor

In Greek Mythology there was always a monster to be slain by the hero figure. This one specifically, was the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. The monster was called the Hydra, known for terrorizing farmers and livestock around Lake Lerna; therefore, hearing of this, King Tiryns sent Hercules to kill the Hydra. Filled with courage, Hercules had no doubt he could slay the hydra and complete yet another trial. Upon seeing the Hydra, its heads were above the clouds and only came down for a worthy battle.

He was a God and the two servants of Hades, "Pain and Panic," kidnapped him as an infant from his bassinet in order to kill him without being stopped. Little does Hades know they didn't really kill Hercules, they only turned him into a mortal human. In order not to get caught, they leave him,

Hercules had tragedy from the day he was born. He lost his family but gained a love interest but soon lost her too. In the start of the movie Hercules was taken away from his parents in Mount Olympus and turned Mortal; well almost mortal. From before Hercules was born Hades and Zeus where rivals, ever since Zeus banished Hades to be the king of the underworld. Hades has been vengeful since and found opportunity when Zeus had a son.

One of the first challenges Odysseus had to face was Polyphemus, the cyclops. Polyphemus trapped Odysseus and his men in his cave and then killed several of them. “Neither reply nor pity came from him, but in one stride he clutched at my companions and caught two in his hands like squirming puppies to beat their brains out, spattering the floor. Then he dismembered them and made his meal, gaping and crunching like a mountain lion—everything: innards, flesh, and marrow bones. We cried aloud, lifting our hands to Zeus, powerless, looking on at this, appalled; but Cyclops went on filling up his belly with manflesh and great gulps of whey… ”

Hercules also had to go to the city of Tiryns, ruled over by Eurystheus. Eurystheus was known to be mean and stubborn. Hercules had to serve him while he performed the 12 labors. “Slay the Nemean Lion.

Mythology is a collection of myths and stories belonging to a particular belief system or cultural tradition. Even though there are a variety of different myths taught around the world, Greek mythologies are more famously known for their fruitful stories and complex relationships. Greek mythologies mostly concern their gods and heroes such as; Hercules, Achilles, Theseus, and Perseus. Of the many Greek heroes, Jason is the most heroic due to the fact that although he is abandoned at a very young age, he is still able to survive, also he proves to Hera the goddess who hated heroes that he is worthy to be favoured by her, and he completes the impossible quest of the Golden Fleece. Jason is born in a very superior family, having a father who is the lawful king of Iolcus.

The demigod son of Zeus himself, Herakles would have to endure and complete eight labors to atone for killing his wife and children. Much did Heracles suffer during this time, killing his own wife and children after being driven mad by Zeus’s wife Hera out of spite. Herakles story is relatable to the struggles of man, more so the other Gods in the sense that Pathos is personified throughout his story. Even at the bitter end, Herakles is betrayed through trickery that ends with his demise. It was unlike any of the ancient civilizations to portray a God as having human or mortal essence.

In Greek mythology, Hercules is a demigod with superhuman strength, and he is the son of the Greek god Zeus. When he was born, Hera, the Greek goddess, attempts to kill Hercules and fails. After the failure to kill Hercules, once he is older, Hera casts a spell on Hercules, making him kill his wife and children.

Apollo was known as the god that made mortals aware of their own guilt and purified them of it. Apollo knew that Heracles couldn’t control what he had done and that it was Hera’s fault, but he agreed that he deserved a punishment for his crime. He ordered Heracles to perform the twelve labors for the Mycenaean king Eurystheus. Apollo stated that once all twelve of these labors were complete that he would be purified from his guilt and achieve immortality. These tasks included killing the Nemean Lion, that was terrorizing people of the region, slaying the nine-headed Lernaean Hydra in the underworld, capturing the sacred pet of the goddess Diana, trapping the horrifying man-eating Erymanthean boar, cleaning all the manure out of King Augeas’ gigantic stables in a single day, driving away the Stymphlaian birds in Stymphalos, obtaining The Cretan Bull in the city of Crete, acquiring the Horses of Diomedes, four man-eating horses, stealing the armored belt the belonged to the Amazon queen Hippolyte.

What was he known forHeracles final labor was to capture Cereberus and bring him out of the underworld. Heracles was to complete this task without any weapons. His labor was given to him by king Eurystheus for punishment for killing his own children after being known as Howard "2 insane by Hera. Hercules knew he should take extra precautions and he knew once in the kingdom of Hades he might not be allowed to leave or rejoin the living. Hercules went to see Eumolpus who was a priest known for the Eleusinian Mysteries.

Hercules is best known as the strongest of all of the mortals, he is also stronger than many gods. He was the last mortal son of Zeus, and the only man born of a mortal woman to become a god upon his death. Offsetting his strength was a noticeable lack of intelligence or wisdom. He may have held grudges, but he would also do anything to help a friend. Once his anger passes, he was the most critical judge of his actions.

The gods responded by instructing him to complete tasks for his cousin, King Eurystheus. Eurystheus initially assigned him ten tasks to complete, but after Hercules completed them, Eurystheus accused him of cheating by completing two tasks with assistance which was specifically disallowed. As a punishment, Hercules was ordered to complete two more tasks, the last of which was to capture Cerberus and bring him to Eurystheus. After completing the eleventh task, Hercules ventured to the underworld where he asked Hades’ permission to bring Cerberus to the overworld to complete his tasks. Hades told Hercules that if he could conquer the hound with his strength alone and no weapons, he could take Cerberus to the overworld and deliver him to Eurystheus.

He strangled both of the snakes. No other attempts by Hera to kill Hercules occurred in till he was older. She used her powers to enrage Hercules, he was so in rage that he accidentally killed his sons and his wife, he was in grate remorse of his actions and went to a king and asked if there was anything he could do to take away his guilt. He was sentenced to 12 nearly impossible task for a mortal but he was no mortal. His first task was to kill a lion that's skin was so tough that no spear or arrow could penetrate him.

This is very different to the myth. In the myth, Hera it the one who sent the snakes down to kill Hercules, not Hades. She absolutely loathes him. She is so upset about her husband’s infidelity, she tries to get a baby killed. The change in the movie can be attributed to the common moral of monogamy.
