What Does National Honor Society Mean To You Essay

The National Honors Society has been a constant but distant presence in my life ever since I was in middle school. Every once in awhile, teachers would mention our GPAs and tell us to keep them up if we wanted to be accepted into NHS, or they would attempt to coax us into behaving better by telling us that the National Honors Society frowned upon our current behavior. Back then, NHS was a prospective part of my future, and I didn’t worry too much about preparing. In my first two years of high school, I watched my fellow students in NHS work to keep up their grades up and to meet the volunteer requirements. I watched them and waited my turn to join them, because after learning what the National Honors Society really was and what it stood for,

Leadership, a drive to serve, and a strong character are crucial aspects of those who wish to live successful and prosperous lives, and unsurprisingly, are desirable traits for those in National Honor Society. Leadership is the ability to motivate, inspire, and guide others in forming a favorable outcome. Instances that I have exhibited leadership include being the captain for two years in a row for Black History Quiz Bowl and being both a counselor and teacher at a 4-H summer camp. The ability to serve helps bring out a person’s humility, selflessness, and deeper understanding of how the world interacts. Character is a culmination of traits that make up a well-rounded person, such as being altruistic or possessing comradeship.

Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character are the four pillars of the National Honor Society, and I believe that I exemplify these characteristics in many different ways. I also believe these are characteristics that every person should have inside and outside of work or school. I am not an expert in all of these categories, but I know that, if given the opportunity, I can and will prove that I have these qualities and represent them well. I believe that my teachers would attest to my academic abilities. I am aware, however, that the term “Scholarship” does not just relate to grades and school academics.

  As a junior in high school, I was inducted into the National Honor Society for doing exceptionally well in my academic endeavors and actively participating in volunteer events. My contributions through this organization have made a significant impact on both my personal development and my community’s support services. The numerous volunteer projects in which I have participated have prepared me to continue helping others in the future. Through projects such as building houses from the ground-up with Habitat for Humanity, I have developed teamwork skills, discovered my management potential, and increased my social network, all while working to provide services for less fortunate individuals in my community.   Some

The National Honors Society requires and represents four important core values: Character, Leadership, Service, and Scholarship in which I believe describes myself as a person on many levels. Of a person, their character is what makes a person unique, which I believe undoubtedly is one’s most important trait. Therefore, I believe my character consists of many components, being able to welcome and help others without hesitation would overall be my best characteristic. For example, if I was to encounter an individual struggling with a situation, whether it be physically or emotionally I am always there to help, no matter the consequences or hardships that may come along with the task. What I see as the function of the National Honor Society is to encourage young adults like myself to participate more within their school and community. It allows students the ability to give and serve other people that have done so for them. This group will give many students an eye opening experience on volunteering for fellow citizens. If I were to be selected into the National Honor Society, I would contribute to the group by sharing ideas and giving useful feedback to the other students in the group. I would also provide personal experiences of certain voluntary services that I have completed, if needed.

The National Honor Society gives an opportunity to all dedicated students to contribute to the community. This wonderful organization is made up of responsible, driven, leadership, and punctual students. This organization recognizes students with outstanding grades and academic skills, which I possess. The National Honor Society would be a great opportunity for me to expand my wings and contribute to the school that has given so much to me.

The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars; Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Scholarship is one of the most important pillars to me. Scholarship means not only doing well in school and getting good grades, but applying what I have learned and using it everyday. I know the importance of education and feel that I am a lifelong learner. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in a family where education is a priority.

Every week I spend time at the Morristown Medical Center as a volunteer, where I am able to help keep things functioning in the hospital at the highest speed possible and hopefully brighten a few patients’ days. Also, I’ve enjoyed helping refereeing youth basketball games for the past two seasons and being able to talk with the kids. It is a great opportunity to give back to a program which gave me so much in the five years I played in it when I was younger. Furthermore, I am excited for even more opportunities to have an impact on my community which being a part of National Honor Society would aid in.

It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. Being considered means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is an enormous responsibility to which I will fully devote my time. Ever since I was a freshman, my goal was to work diligently to be among the highest scholars and to be accepted into this scholarly “hall of fame”. Through my relentless hard work and perseverance, I believe that I possess the four characteristics of a National Honor Society member- leadership, service, character, and scholarship.

I want to build my leadership skills, service opportunities, and character, and being a member of the National Honor Society would help me to accomplish these goals. I believe being a part of the National Honor Society would help provide me with more opportunities to volunteer. In the past two years, I have volunteered at my church to help with the children's classes. During this, I have found out that I love serving other people and I would like to be a part of more opportunities to help others. I also joined Beta Club this year, Beta Club has helped me experience more service opportunities.

Being a member and leader in National Honor Society has proven beneficial in my development. As I grow and expand my knowledge of the world around me, I have relied on the four pillars of NHS to ensure my current and future success in life. The importance of scholarship has always resonated with me, as I have maintained my number one class rank throughout my high school career. However, distinguishing my desire for additional knowledge from a classroom requirement to a true commitment to learning has only come to me through my membership with NHS.

The National Honor Society is built upon four founding principles: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service. I have a high school life filled with dedication to these four principles on the Spiritual standpoint, the Familial level, the Community level and finally at the National level. Moreover, I did begin my dedication to these same four principles even before this starting with the Boy Scouts of America and this commitment will continue along with having a rich future when I reach my fullest potential. I firmly believe that to have academic excellence is giving your best effort to maintain not just having straight As and a high GPA at or close to the edge of attaining a 4.0, but to also have the skills that help you perform your very best in college and beyond. My membership in both National Honor Society and Beta have shown me the importance of giving back to my community. The various volunteering opportunities presented by each of these organizations allowed me to discover the significant difference I can make by simply giving my time and effort to those who need it. My role as Right Wing on the Comeaux High School Soccer Team built upon this realization, showing the exponentially greater result that I can attain when working with a group. I was also better able to humble myself, appreciating the importance of small parts when contributing to a whole. My constant employment at various businesses, along with playing soccer for my school, taught me the importance of listening to and following the instructions of those in charge.
