What Caused The American Revolution

The rejection of the British monarchy was known as the American Revolution, which took place from 1775 to 1783. The motives for the rejection were the acts passed by Great Britain, which taxed the colonists and did not allow them to live freely. Many colonists were angry and protested against the British. Additionally, American Citizens boycotted British goods in order to revolt against them. There were also several battles fought between Great Britain and the colonies during this time.

Americans had lost faith in England, and by 1775 many colonists were convinced that the British government was going to take away their freedoms and property and enslave them forever. At that point the stage was set, both sides were

However, there were still a handful of colonists that believed going to war with Britain would jeopardize the little economic freedom that they did have. As a result, a number of colonists opposed the American Revolution, but the majority of colonists advocated for the fight for independence and freedom.

The American Revolution was an experience that colonists had to endure in order to become the great nation it is today. The British were trying to deplete the taxation out of the colonies and was successfully getting away with it, until colonists took a stand. The colonies felt they were being mistreated and did not want to be dominated by a country that was an ocean away. The British relied on the colonies to pay the war debt from the French and Indian War. The British collected taxes as well as creating a wide variety of acts such as the Quartering Act, Sugar Act, and Stamp Act.

It is our opinion that the event that most significant role in causing the revolutionary war was the French and Indian war because, during our research we found that the French and Indian war was the cause of a American revolution because of disputes over subsequent frontier policy and paying the war’s expenses led to colonial discontent. There was more causes than just the French and Indian war it was all the taxes from the stamp act as well as the sugar act that put a large amount of taxes that the british tried to collect taxes that the american people considered harsh, and what led to the revolutionary war. Upon the eve of the Revolution, the colonists had spent several years growing tiresome of British rule and preparing themselves to revolt. They had become united under the goal of attaining freedom and had developed their own personality, which was different from any found in Europe. Additionally, Britain treated the colonies with disrespect, thus increasing their desire to separate themselves. In the years leading up to the American Revolution, the colonists united through their desire for freedom and developed into their own people seeking freedom from an oppressive British rule. The main reason the colonists wanted to rebel was because Britain was treating them poorly and abusing them.

The American revolution of 1775 was not as radical of a revolution like the “French revolution” but it still changed the political, social, and ideological aspects substantially of the thirteen colonies. To decide just how much of a revolution the American Revolution was, one has to first know what the word “revolution” means. As defined by Princeton University, a revolution is “The overthrow of a government by those who are governed”. In accordance with this definition, the established government must be overthrown by the people the government, governs over. The British government was overthrown by those it governed, the colonists.

In 1497 a navigator for England named John Cabot found rich fishing grounds near Newfoundland, which he later claimed for England. English navigators and him continued to search for new ways for a northwest passage to Asia but with no success in the 1600s England began to settle on establishing colonies on the eastern seaboard of North America. In 1607 the English built their first permanent settlement in Jamestown, Virginia. The colony was supposed to bring the British wealth and profit but in the first stages of the colony many colonists died of starvation and disease. The ones that survived only did because of the help of Native Americans.

Britain felt that they should have the Townshend acts because they still needed money and they wanted to show the colonist that they were still in charge. The patriots definitely fought hard for their freedom and in the end they got their

The colonists were mad because the British were controlling everything that the colonists were doing. The British were controlling all there trade and industry. Making new laws and acts to keep the colonists in check and by passing parliament. The British were basically treating the colonists like slaves The British took every chance to have most control over the goods being made in America and being brought into America. They controlled most trade routes and had the power to control is certain goods were allowed in.

This act led to the boycott of English goods and also led to violence as tax collectors were tarred and feathered regularly. Luckily the Stamp Act was repealed, however it was soon replaced by the Townshend Acts. The goal of the Townshend Acts was to decrease tax in Britain and increase taxes in the colonies. They are soon repealed as they are overwhelmingly rejected, except one. The Tea Tax was left in place as the British, of course, wanted to leave their foot in the door making sure the Americans knew that they could tax them however they like.

There are many causes of the American Revolution. The colonists were mad the British. They did not want to pay taxes anymore. One reason the colonists were angered was because of the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was the taxation on all printed paper included magazines,newspaper and all legal documents.(Doc 1)

Many historians would agree that the Revolution was caused by events and the growing differences between the colonists and England. The cause of the American Revolution could be summarized in the saying ‘liberty vs. tyranny’. The American Revolution was a struggle by liberty-loving Americans to free themselves from a dictatorial British rule. In this period, the Colonies protested against the British Empire and entered into the American Revolutionary War, also known as the American War of Independence.
