You flexed and stretched your arms as the ending credits of the movie rolled. You had just watched a movie called What About Bob; it was a funny movie, and another thing that lightened your mood even more. You loved the actor that starred in it; however, you didn’t know his name. It was like Bill Murray, or something… “Did you like the movie?” asked your aunt. You nodded your head, then all of a sudden had to hold back a laugh, because you saw Melanie sleeping. “Yeah, she normally ends up falling asleep in the weirdest positions… ” After Mona said this, Mona gave you a look saying that you couldn’t have imagined them. Melanie was as straight as a stick; except for her legs, which were curled in as far as they could go, and her hands, which …show more content…
Melanie, sweetie, wake up,” said your aunt. Melanie’s eyes blinked open. “Melanie, be careful getting off… I’ll always wonder where you got your strange postures from.” Your aunt smiled, and quickly pointed to your uncle when he was not looking. All the girls in the room started laughing, and he turned to face you all. “What?” he asked. “Oh, nothing…” Melanie responded. “Alright girls, come on now.” After saying that, your Aunt showed you away from the steps and up the stairs. Once you got upstairs, your aunt just stopped in the middle of the hallway, and turned around to look at you. She then beckoned you towards Melanie’s room. “I have a feeling you’ll fit better into Melanie’s clothes rather than Mona’s. Come over here, and feel free to pick out any nightgown or pajama set you see.” You picked out a base, floral nightgown. It looked a little longer than your actual height, but you could deal with that after your shower. “Would you like to take a shower now?” Aunt Bella asked. “That would be nice,” you responded. With your nightgown in your hand, your Aunt led you down the long hallway to a bathroom. After she told you how to use the shower, you rinsed off, and put the nightgown on afterwards. It fit perfectly, just like you
Today movies are one of the prime sources of entertainment. Whether it’s spending time with a significant other, hanging out with friends, or anything else, movies are one of the most versatile forms of entertainment that can satisfy everyone’s unique preferences. Amongst movies, the most popular genres include comedy, action, dramas, and countless more. In 1957, Mike Nichols released The Graduate, a romantic comedy that would remain popular even fifty years after its release. Although the movie is renowned for its engaging plot and distinctive comedic elements, The Graduate tells a story about college graduate Benjamin Braddock’s affair with Mrs. Robinson, a close family friend and the prevalent theme of discovering one’s identity.
He laced his right arm around her midsection, reached down, and pulled her legs across his lap. William expected her to recoil. He was pleasantly surprised when she went limp in his grasp. He pushed her forward towards the edge of the
He wiped off the slick sweat on the back of his neck, knowing it was his time to shine. Centennial Olympic Park surrounded him. The Bank of America Plaza towered to the East. He rubbed the back of his blood stained feet, shook off the blister pain, shoved his polished trainers on his feet, picked up his stick, and started for the other side of the field. He was in the big leagues now.
As a great author, Himes effectively identify the racism and racial power in wartime Los Angeles and applies metaphors and characterization to reveal a reality that the white group uses the power to discriminate, segregate, and oppress minorities in order to limit their rights and deprive them of their opportunities to move upward. Bob’s reaction to inequalities and oppression reflects African Americans’ emotional plight when living in the white world. Finally, many minorities like Bob are forced to join the army to serve the country that makes them experience racism. However, their fights, struggles, and achievements will be a prelude to the future Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and ’60s for people of color in the U.S.
“Pearl,” she spoke after Mrs. Harper had gone, “I believe that I would like to prepare my wardrobe for Spring early this year. I’ll need six new dresses. I will pay you a lump sum after they are done. Now, that should take you a few months, so let’s take my measurements again as I have grown a bit over this dreadful winter.” Pearl took the mayor’s wife’s measurements and sketched out a few dress ideas before collecting the stack of books and paper that waited near the door.
One night, I woke up to my sister screaming; her body was drenched in sweat, and she repeatedly said, “I can’t move my legs”. I was young then and didn’t understand what she meant. I slowly lifted the covers off of her legs. They looked perfectly normal to me, so I asked her to wiggle her toes. Thirty seconds went by, and no movement occurred; she says, “I really can’t move my legs”.
" No, just dress me and be on your way," Lucille answered as she stood up out of bed, quickly walking over to the dressing area. Autumn followed close behind, with the dress in hand, as she placed it on the hook on the wall. " Have you heard from Earl Trancy, my lady?" Autumn asked out of curiosity, as she quickly undressed her mistress out of her
I made my way to room 271 where my grandma has been since 2000, after the war. I walked in and she was sitting there with her hands folded staring out the window. "Grandma?" I had to speak loudly, she was losing her hearing. She turned slowly towards me, "Josie?"

The narrator and her children feel the quilts symbolize generations of war and poverty that their family endured over the years. On the other hand, not all family members share the same appreciation for the quilts. Adopting a different culture after going to college the oldest daughter, Dee, appreciates the quilt for being part of her legacy. She can't believe that the quilt was handmade. "These are all pieces of dresses Grandma used to wear.
She gets up from her make shift station in front of the sinks, pushes me away and I climb on her thumpy bed. She starts ripping clothes out of her squished closet and tosses it to me. “Try these on,” I try them all on, the one that makes me the most uncomfortable is the one I choose. I learned quickly, the outfits I feel comfortable in are not the outfits I should be wearing, the ones that are too small, makes you cold, and unable to look
Ever since I was a little boy, my parents wanted me to do good in school for a better life. They were raised in poor conditions, sacrificing a lot in order to come to the United States so that my sister and I can have a sustainable future. Through their hard work and passion, I began to work just as hard, having dreams that will make them proud. Throughout my childhood, I was exposed to TV shows such as Caillou and Dragon Tales. However, the one that struck my interest the most was a show called "Bob the Builder."
Constructing an identity is a complicated task that takes time, diligence and effort to accomplish. Anderson later uses bedrooms again to emphasize that many people struggle with establishing their identity, not just Melinda. While Melinda is inside of Heather’s room, she believes that the bedroom is a perfect fit for Heather’s identity. Anderson writes, “ All her clothes wait patiently, organized by type--skirts together, pants hanging by their cuffs, her sweaters stacked in plastic bags on shelves. The room screams Heather”
Akemi led Gertrude to the other end of the castle and opened a door to a little larger room. It was in perfect order and it was evident that someone was already staying in it. There was only one bed though, but it was larger than the ones in the room Josie and Chanda shared. Akemi went over to the bed, casually removed a doll from it and hid it behind her back. “We're limited on space, this is my room and you will stay in it with me.
At first, her stomach lurched when she felt the floor tilt under her feet, then a deep low rumble made her hair stand on end. ‘Hold onto my arm,’ Mrs Tiffin called. But as soon as the tremors started, they stopped, and an eerie silence followed in their wake.
