The Civil War was the result of the built up conflict in the nation, the nation was first assembled under a unified ideal, that every US citizen has the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Our nation's westward expansion took place in 1787 to 1861. The westward expansion led to economic, cultural and political differences from the North, South and West that would later divide the nation. An economy defines how a region of land prospers as one and grows. The people in the North and South had a different way of using their resources and people. The South grew cotton, spices, tobacco and sugarcane. The South had the materials, but did very little manufacturing compared to the North in which they relied upon to manufacture their
Cotton, tobacco, rice, sugar cane, and indigo were sold as cash crops. However, the reason why the South became so rich was become of cotton. The economic relationship between the North and South during this time was that the South produced cotton and the North used the cotton to manufacture textiles. As the textile mills
In the origins of the civil war the United Sates was going through social, economic, and territorial changes. The US population was growing exponentially due to its increase of immigration which forced them to move westwards. The northwest territory was the first land created outside of the original states it was also north and west of the Ohio river. In the year 1787 Congress passed a law called the Northwest Land Ordinance which provided a method for the United States to admit new territories and equal representation to the north and the south based on population where every state will send representatives to congress which made the north and south add more states to each of their sides so they could have more representatives on congress
“A house divided against itself cannot stand”, words from Abraham Lincoln(Doc. M). You will need to know that when President Lincoln said that quote, this “house” he talks of is the United States. You also will need to know that the North and South had different perspectives about slavery, the North did not like slavery, the South did. Anyway, the Civil War was caused by the issue of the North’s and South’s different opinions. The first reason was about economic differences.
In the south, they had cities, but mostly for trade. The main crop was cotton, which was hard to harvest. From the text in chapter 9, “the economy of the South prospered between 1820, and 1860. Unlike the industrial North, however, the South remained predominantly rural.” From this text, it could be said that the north had a better industry, but the South lead in farming.
The 19th-century doctrine or belief that the expansion of the US throughout the American continents was both justified and inevitable. Former U.S. president Thomas Jefferson believed that the nation's future depended on its Westward Expansion. In 1803 the Louisiana Purchase took place, Expanding the size of the territory.
Introduction The Westward Expansion is about moving west to find better land. almost seven million Americans moved west to find better land to farm and to build a house and raise a family. Two topics about the westward is The Oregon Trail and The Gold Rush.
Westward Expansion PEGS The decision to annex Texas produced problems within the government for example, whether or not adding a new slave state was equal according to the Missouri Compromise. They also feared that it would block the nation’s plan to accomplish Manifest Destiny. After President Polk annexed Texas, Mexico and Texas had to establish the border. Mexico believed that it was the Nueces River, however Texas and the rest of the U.S. believed it was the Rio Grande River, this caused a dispute between the two leading to the U.S. Mexican War. James K. Polk made it his mission during his campaign to annex Texas when John Tyler did not want to add the republic.
Was the westward expansion of the United States just an inevitable or unjust and easy to stop? Manifest destiny was not a god given right, it wasn’t helpful to the other countries, we weren’t enlightening anyone. All of that is just a cover of our power hungry government. I am not against the expansion of America, I think it’s great if we buy countries, or they join us.
Would you move Westward? The Westward Expansion is when several of people moved West for the gold rush. Not many people become rich! Many people do go though! I would stay and not move Westward because it’s difficult and might die/get injured, I might not find gold, and it’s a long journey!
Westward Expansion Flash Draft Have you ever wondered about what would 've happened if the westward expansion never occurred? We wouldn 't have many things you know today and America would be a lot smaller. The westward expansion happened during the 1800s and helped shape the modern America. The westward expansion started with the Louisiana Purchase and was made even stronger by the Gold Rush. Many people came to strike it rich or just to start a new life out west.
The South was able to produce 7/8 of the worlds cotton supply. The South became more dependent on the planted field system and it’s full of force part, slavery. Notably, at that moment, the North was flourishing industrially. The North depended on factories and others
The Westward Expansion all started when America made the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. There were many benefits from the purchase for the US that the French didn’t realize before they sold it. The purchase gave the US access to the Mississippi river which allowed for expansion of river trade to the North and South from the center of the US. The port city of New Orleans was bought by the US and its prosperity benefited the US greatly. The US sent Lewis and Clark west to investigate the land they purchased.
For some, it was destiny to move west. Although there were many conflicts and disagreements between ourselves and others, it was destiny to move west because of overpopulation, new inventions of transportation methods, and new opportunities. In the 19th Century, overpopulation was one of the major reasons for Westward Expansion. Immigrants were flooding into America for new opportunities and new ways of life and there was just not enough land to suffice the needs for all of the people. These immigrants were arriving in America in the port cities on the East Coast.
I agree with Morgan’s central ideas that there is no true first hand accounts of true westward expansion. I believe that there are no first hand accounts there is only biographies about the people that played a big role in westward expansion. There are no first hand accounts of the people physically moving from west that i have read or heard about. In “Chief Joseph Speaks Selected Statements and Speeches by the Nez Percé Chief” there are many speeches done by Chief Joseph that are accounts of westward expansion but they are in third person.
One of the several factors that helped cause the Civil War was the economy at the time. While the economy wasn’t in bad shape, the North and South were different and had very different views and ideas about their futures. The Northern area couldn 't have huge farms like the South. However, they were very diverse in the items they wanted to produce.
