Among all the animals living on earth, insects are the most diverse. They are found in all habitats such as deserts, forests, swamps and even the pools of crude petroleum (Imms, 1964).The number of insects exceeds all other animals and this due to the undeniable fact that they are able to adapt themselves to any kind of environment. The evolution of flight in insect is regarded as the significant breakthrough in the history of Earth. They were the first to dominate the air even before other terrestrial animals and also the time taken for diversification go beyond other organisms which all together lead to their dominance across the planet.

Sphecidae constitutes a varied group of solitary wasps that show diversity in their morphological and biological characters. Solitary wasps are also called as sand wasps, digger wasps and ground nesting wasps. They are not as famous as honeybees, paper wasps and bumblebees as their biology has been less studied. Due to their predatory nature, they form the representative of one of the diverse members of the arthropod community in their habitats as they prey upon various insects and spiders. Some members of the Family Sphecidae are called as “Thread-Waisted Wasps” since they have a thin petiole followed by a long, thin abdomen. They measure about an inch long in average and have orange on their abdomens. They are commonly called as sand wasp or digger wasp. Sphecids mostly dig the ground for their nests. Prey paralysis and provisioning of nest is a common feature. The female constructs a nest by digging the sand which is provisioned by paralyzed larva. Eventually a single egg is laid on the paralyzed prey by the female wasp. Abstract: The main focus of this lab is on animal behaviors in terrestial isopods, also known as pillbugs. There are many purposes to this lab experiment. First, these pillbugs are put into four different types of enviroments, also known as chambers, light v. dark, hot vs. cold, moisture vs. dry, and lastly shelter vs. open. In these different chambers, there are 10 pillbugs, 5 placed into each individual chamber and then observed for up to 5 – 10 minutes. In this lab we observed that pillbugs prefer light areas, hot temperatures, moist environments, and lastly sheltered spaces.
This graph shows that each ratio of beetles had a different mating time so there was no significant difference in the time of the mating ratio beetles. Discussion In experiment our hypothesis stated that the female beetle would lay more eggs on the northern bean because the northern bean looks and feels like the original beans the beetles came from. The original bean which is the black eye peas is where the beetles grew up on for many generations so they are successful and familiar with supported that the beetles would lay majority of their eggs on the Northern beans because the northern beans are close to what the bean beetles originated from, but as we analyzed the data it also showed that the bean beetled laid most of their beans on the Navy beans as well.

The overall purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects of different types of environments on pill bug attractancy. Pill bugs were exposed to 2 different environments (sugar and water). The attractancy was observed and recorded in a raw data table. A research hypothesis was formulated that the sugar would work as the best attractant for pill bugs. Sugar had the greatest impact of the two environments used because it attracted 8/9 ants.

In “The Six-Legged Meat of the Future”, authors Marcel Dicke and Arnold Van Huis, believe the insects are going to become the new meat in place of pork, beef, or chicken. Dicke and Van Huis have researched the experiments and foods in the Netherlands to advocate their belief. These “insects are high in protein, B vitamins and minerals like iron and zinc, and they’re low in fat”(Dicke and Van Huis, para. 2). Also, most people believe that insects can have poisons, however, “less than 0.5% of all known insect species are harmful” (Dicke and Van Huis, para. 6).

In this historical fiction book it explain the story of the Mirabal sister in there fight to stop the oppression of Trujillo. It goes though there life story and gives insight to what the conditions were. Trujillo and the Dominican Republic government oppressed the citizens by arresting if you resist them, Machiavellian control and the deplorable conditions these people lived in.
Impact of Setting Each story has a perfectly unique setting that is specific to the time and place in which the story is told. The setting of a story is extremely important to not only the characters but also the reader. It helps the reader feel connected to the characters, bringing the story to life. In Sue Monk Kidd’s book The Secret Life of Bees, setting is used to bring the reader into the story.

This quote reflects the novel, The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd because the protagonist in the story, Lily Owens, her mother have died when she was four years old and she didn’t feel loved by her abusive father, T. Ray Owens, until she met the Boatwrights family with the housekeeper, Rosaleen, and stayed with them. The Boatwrights family are the three black sisters who are August, May, and June. This novel took place in Sylvan and Tiburon, South Carolina, where Lily grew up and where she found the answer to her questions.
In our experiment, we examined the behavior of isopods by conducting the experiment based on our hypothesis: “If ten isopods are put into the test chamber, 5 in sand and 5 in soil, which environment will the pillbug prefer.” We hypothesized that the isopods would favor the soil more than the sand because pillbugs are typically found in soil and not in sand. Pillbugs are favored in soil because the natural role of a pillbug is to eat dead and decaying things but, in sand there are no nutrients available for pillbugs. Pill bugs are mostly found in moist environments, due to having gills, gills only function when they are wet so pill bugs will inhabit places in which air holds a lot of water
At the conclusion of each of the three trials, the number of caterpillars that showed peck marks was tallied. The average of the three trials revealed that 0.67 out of 8 patterned caterpillars had been pecked and 2.67 out of 8 of the solid colored caterpillars showed signs of avian predation (Figure 1). The average rate of avian predation for the three trials was 8.3% for the patterned caterpillars and 33.3% for the solid colored caterpillars.
