Ella Toman Mrs. Hunter English III Mar 24, 2023 Was Macbeth Ever Really In Control? Have you ever looked at a couple and wondered who wheres the pants in their relationship? In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, this is one of the things on many people's minds throughout the whole Play. Macbeth is a tragic play and like most does not have a happy ending. During this play, there are three Witches that tell Macbeth that he is the Thane of Glamis, the Thane of Cawdor, and he will become the King of Scotland. He says he doesn’t believe the Witches because he is not the Thane of Cawdor or Glamis, there is no way they can see into the future, and there is no way he is going to become King. This all changes when he finds out that the Thane of Cawdor died and he is now the Thane of Cawdor and Glamis. She knows just what she has to do to guarantee that if the King were to get killed that Macbeth would be the one to get the throne. "Lady Macbeth encourages her husband to seize the power of requisite to ruthless patrilineal order."(Alfar 182). Killing all of King Duncans' heirs was one thing she knew she had to be done to guarantee Macbeth would be the next person in line for the throne. Lady Macbeth was a strong woman that when she had her mind set on something she was going to do whatever it took to do it without hesitation. She knew that she couldn’t be the one who did the killing, so she had to get Macbeth to do all the dirty work. “Glamis thou art, and Cawdor, and shalt be what thou art promised.” (1.5.15-16). Lady Macbeth says this to Macbeth telling him that he is the Thane of Cawdor and Glamis and that he will become king as he was promised, also making an obvious point that she wants to be
