Walgreens v. Theranos Walgreens is suing a lab-testing affiliate federally over breach of contract, the proceeding will be taking place in Delaware. ‘Walgreens Boots Alliance’ is suing for 140 million dollars in damages (same amount invested). the civil suit is filed privately under seal so as to not become a public matter. Walgreens is claiming 'Theranos' misled them about they’re technology though Theronos will “ hold Walgreens responsible for damage it has caused” in june the partnership was terminated after concerns about Theranos’ technology and operations which possible put the store chain’s customers at risk.

With more citizens becoming insured and seeing doctors, CVS Health will be seeing more customers who need their medications filled. With the purchase of Omnicare, a drug delivery company that also works with senior-living centers (Fortune), CVS Health is branching out to try to cover all aspects of the health services. By CVS Health has also gone into partnership with Target for $1.9 billion. CVS Health will acquire all of Target’s 1660 pharmacies and clinic business and will be renamed CVS/Pharmacy or MinuteClinic (Target). With the new agreement, CVS will be reaching out to more customers that will result in future profits as well, which will make up for the loss from the Tobacco Removal

CVS Health is a dominant peace of the healthcare puzzle. For over half a century, CVS Health has been committed to their customers, clients and communities. AS of the current year, CVS Health boasts over 9,600 CVS Pharmacy Store locations, more than 1,100 MinuteClinic Locations, 1.9 Billion Prescriptions filled and 39% of the past five-year market prescription growth. Along with their focus on reinventing pharmacies, they also offer Prescription Benefit management and serves more than 75 million plans members. All of these factors contribute to the enormous success of the CVS Health corporation as a whole.

By the end of 1993, the company had closed or sold 167 of over 300 stores, and many employees lost their jobs. The Phar-Mor’s scandal was a controversy at that time and the entire deep discount drug category was in trouble. Many stores closed to cover up losses, and thousands of employees got fired. Moreover, investors started to worry and thought that there was no reason that other companies would not “cover the book” like what Phar-Mor had done. Therefore, not many investors were interested in investing into such kind of business.

Founded in 1901 as a neighborhood drugstore, Walgreens now has 8,175 stores in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. Recently in 2014 Walgreens took their operations global with the acquisition of 45% share in Alliance Boots, a European health and beauty group. On average Walgreens fulfills 800 million prescriptions per day, serves 6 million customers per day and has 17 million visitors per month to their website (Strong, n.d.). Walgreens original business approach to gain market share was to open new stores, splitting the space between retail and pharmacy/health care services.

Executive Summary CVS Caremark is the nation’s second largest Pharmacy. CVS is also a leading supplier in food, drinks, and other convenience items. CVS has a lot of competition, but no one as big as Walgreens which is the largest Pharmacy in the nation. Another big competitor is Rite-Aid. To stay competitive and to maintain dominance in their field CVS uses strategies of innovative and growth.

Kaiser Permanente has been equipped since 2007 with Health Connect; which is the largest private electronic health record implementation in the world. This is a highly sophisticated electronic program that integrates inpatient, outpatient, and clinic medical records with appointments, registration, pharmacy, and billing for all kaiser members. In addition, this electronic program includes an entire medical library with a whole set of care support tools which are accessible to doctors, nursing staff and patients (Kaiser Permanente, n.d.). At kaiser permanente; nurses are expected to print out “the after-visit summary” (AVS), which contain the doctor recommendations for each patient that we see.

They offer patients a way to pay for all of this and maintain their prescriptions in one place without sacrificing the safety, service or convenience. Walgreens remains among the fastest growing retailers in the country with a growth rate of between 1.5 and 2.5 percent in 2013. In 2010 Walgreens acquired the Duane Reade drugstore chain in New York City, and began building many of its urban retailing and store design concepts into Walgreens stores across the country. Walmart was founded in the summer of 1962 by Kingfisher, Oklahoma native Sam Walton. Although Walton’s original vision for the store was relatively modest, the half century since its founding has seen Walmart morph into one of the biggest companies in the world. Today headed by one Doug McMillon, Walmart boasts more than 5000 stores in the United States of America alone and employs more than 1.5 million people. Walmart is undoubtedly an American institution, yet each Walmart store feels like its own little country. Walmart seems to have its own laws and customs and the people who shop their on a regular basis appear almost primitive in their behavior as they go about raiding the store’s shelves and wrestling with fellow customers for discount flat screen televisions and bulk packages of two-ply toilet paper.

• Walgreens has aligned itself with AARP. Partnering together they have launched a multi-year program targeting seniors. Through events such as Ask About Your Medications organized by AARP and held at various Walgreen locations customers are able to listen to their pharmacist discuss and explain various medications. Walmart owns a chain of grocery stores, discount department stores and hypermarkets with about 11,500 retail stores over 28 countries. In 1998, Walmart entered Germany with the acquisition of Wertkauf and Interspar chain (Louisa 2006). Despite having the strongest economy in Europe and the third largest retail market in the world, Germany was not an ideal place for Walmart to achieve its ambition (Knorr and Andt 2003). After nearly a decade struggling to grow, Walmart decided to pull out of German market in 2006 with the loss of one billion dollars (Mark 2006).
