1. I chose this competency because as a nurse it is vital to maintain professional boundaries and still be able to provide the therapeutic care without personally getting attached to patients.

#8. W-7 FITNESS TO PRACTICE
1. I chose this competency because it teaches me that I need to have a positive self-esteem and a great attitude towards my patients, colleagues and every situation in order to be able to provide holistic quality care.
2. The article taught me that fitness to practice, includes being accountable and responsible to cope with stress and know how to balance your duty to care for patients; and an equal duty to ensure that fitness to practice competently does not threaten the safety of patients, co-workers or oneself (p. 8).
3. The article widened my understanding that if I am not mentally or physically fit; it’s impossible for me to care for another and meet their needs and can put patients in danger due to errors.
4. It will affect my practice in the future in the sense that I will maintain my own life balance and be as active as possible in order to provide clients with confidence and instill trust that I can positively make a difference in their lives.

I learned that nurses need to be familiar with patient’s rehabilitation by knowing therapies that are indispensable and beneficial for their recoveries; and that active involvement in the prevention of deteriorations and complications in physical health and function is important for the patient (p. 22).
3. The article changed the way I think and understand that knowledge is power hence educating patients on best practice to get them back to health or functioning normally is of the essence.
4. In my future practice, I will frequently update self of therapies and pay more attention to details that the patient identifies as essential for recovery to better help them regain their well-being and ability to perform their daily activities.

The first eight years of my life, I spent in India where I was born. Growing up I was constantly reminded by my parents that I needed to make them proud by getting a good job and living a good lifestyle. They told me this because they did not want to see me live a hard life like they did. When I was nine years old, I moved from India to the United States of America. The reason why I moved to America was not because I was living a bad life in India, it was so that I could have a better education and more opportunities in life.

One mistake can be caught on camera by those who are distrustful of nurses. Overall, Fowler article was extremely unsuccessful at pusadering her audience to take action and become a part of policy making in healthcare because of her structural errors and usage of irrelevant sources in a failed attempt to build credibility with her audience. Fowler’s structural weaknesses in her organization and thesis statement was not persuasive, thus leaving her readers confused. Fowler first begins her article with background information about her topic, stating the history of Nursing. She outlines extensive details about the founding of the code of ethics for three paragraphs, which was not necessary for her argument.
In becoming one, I hope to accomplish many things. I want to be able to utilize the skills and knowledge that I have developed and apply them to the best of my ability in the care of my patients. By doing so, I will make an impact on the lives of every patient that I meet. Furthermore, I will continue to learn throughout my practice by continually researching new proven methods of care and eventually contributing to the improvement of health care in the future. Overall, I envision myself to not only be a care provider, but also a leader, researcher, advocate, and educator (Yoost & Crawford, 2016).

As a nursing student, I have a grasp on what nursing is through textbooks and lectures. The more I learn about this profession, the more I learn about what my philosophy is. Although I haven’t gained clinical experience as a nurse, I have gained some clinical experience as a nurse assistant that helps me administer patient care while acquiring knowledge working under the supervision of nurses. This experience helps me to become knowledgeable on what their roles and responsibilities are, and it has inspired me that I hope when I graduate, to equal their skill, diligence and passion.
As a child, I dreamed of acquiring a career in Nursing. I was always fascinated by the amount of respect that nurses received during my doctor visits throughout my childhood. There are many reasons why I chose to major in Nursing such as the ability to take care of someone, the money and benefits that the career offered, as well as job stability and flexibility. On of my main reasons for pursing Nursing is the ability to care for someone other than myself.

Introduction: The ABCD (Attitude, Behaviour, Compassion and Dialogue) of dignity-conserving care is a fundamental tool for use by healthcare professionals (HPCs) to establish empathy with patients and to uphold human dignity (Chochinov, 2007: 184). These 4 key elements will be discussed with reference to the given scenario. The importance of establishing empathy with patients, and how the ABCD aids this, will be outlined. My own thoughts and self-reflection in response to the scenario will be discussed and the process of becoming a future Integrated Health Professional (IHP) will be considered.
