A voter registration drive will be held at Midtown Market in Paducah on Saturday, January 30. The Graves County High School Young Democrats will be sponsoring the event, but everyone, regardless of party affiliation, will be helped to register.
The drive is a part of push for people in the state to vote more often. In the last election only 31 percent of eligible voters showed up to the polls. Many people in the state fail to register in time and when the general elections come, they are barred from voting.
The Young Democrats came up with the idea not only to get more people in general to vote, but for more Democrats to vote. Emily Cornwell, Vice President of Young Democrats said, “There 's a trend that people who support more liberal candidates are less likely to actually vote, so I think the goal is to identify those people, stress the importance of voting, and get them to commit to getting to their polling location on election day.”
Ms. Cornwell is

By registering as a Democrat in Graves County I 'll definitely be able to vote in any election. I 'm proud to be a Republican and as Vice President of the club I 'd love to be able to register as a Republican, but I 'd also like to exercise my right to vote, and by registering as a Democrat, I 'll be able to do so.”
Ms. Stapleton is referring to the inability of Republicans to vote in Democratic primaries because of close-poll voting, and with many conservative politicians in Graves County still running as Democrats, this creates a problem.
“So you want to register as a Democrat to be able to vote in the primaries because the Democrats aren 't really that
“Democrats say the changes have little to do with fraud prevention and more to do with placing obstacles in the way of possible Democratic voters, including young people and minorities” (Lizette A1). In other words, Democrats do not see this is a real issue because there is “scant evidence of voter-impersonation fraud” (Lizette A1) and say that Republicans are just using this as a better sounding defense in order to accomplish more voter discrimination towards particular groups of
WOOSTER — Could a case in Lorain County, where a federal and an appeals court upheld a county board of elections’ decision to keep an independent candidate off the ballot because he voted in a partisan primary, have an impact on the state representative’s race in Wayne County? Republican Scott Wiggam and independent candidate Stephen Spoonamore are running for the District 1 seat being vacated by Ron Amstutz. Controversy has surrounded Spoonamore’s candidacy because right after filing to run for the seat as an independent, he requested a Democratic Party ballot and cast a vote on it. Secretary of State Jon Husted, a Republican, broke a tie, ruling Spoonamore could not appear on a ballot. The Wayne County Board of Elections was split along party lines.
As population in the 67 counties in Florida continue to grow greater with every passing year so should the voter registration. Although in some areas of Florida that has not been the case. Between the years of 2012 and 2014 there has been many ups and downs in the registration patterns throughout the state. These dynamic changes could cause the voting patterns in Florida to shift, which in the end could affect the voting patterns for the 2016 Presidential election. There has been many changes in the Republican, Democratic and Non-Political Affiliated Parties (NPA) in Florida.
Concept: The Importance of Voting Article: “Patriot Connectors to Discuss Importance of Voting” My article began by introducing a group named the Patriot Connectors, and the entirety of the article expressed the group 's views on why people should vote and exactly how important voting is to American society. The group states that not voting or not even being registered to vote in essence, undermines America 's representative democracy. They attribute the lack of voters being related to the fact that many feel that their votes do not matter in a government system they see as unfair or rigged. The article relays the fact that voting is something citizens learn to do.
Democratic expansion is the ability of the people to participate in governing processes, such as the voting registration process. The ability of persons such as Herman Bentley to extradite the voting registration process for black voters signifies a community with a growing democratic presence. While Herman Bentley served to aid African Americans in their fight for voter freedom, the entrance of the 1870s brought with it conservatives such as Judge Cobb who served only as a tool by which whites exerted more power over blacks within the community (Norrell, 11). The growing population of black voters in later years allowed for the combat of these oppressive powers. While the past was full of bigotry, the
My specific responsibility consisted of canvassing and addressing letters to absentee voters. In canvassing I was given a list of addresses in a neighborhood for people who were most likely to vote. If no one came to the door, I would leave a door hanger. If someone did answer the door, I would talk to them about my candidate and inform them of issues my candidate was focusing on and what he would do if he were to be elected as State Senate. On the paper which listed the addresses, I would mark down any notes on appearances of the person or their surroundings, such as “American flag” or “Catholic cross.”
Though partisanship presents dangers, especially in a period of divided government, it is healthier than the apathy of my peers. These same people are those who saw little purpose in a proposal to plan a voter registration drive for eligible students during school hours. I fear that few of them will register to vote within the coming decade, and so they will have denied themselves the exercise of a right to participate in the political process and to influence the course of their local, state, and national governments. Madison confessed the shortcomings of faction but established how essential it is to democracy. Individuals who are indifferent to government
Making this assumption is true about having them vote for the rest of their lives because they will be able to exercise this right many ways with local elections and being able to share their opinions with this new right. This goes to show that the Montgomery County is hopeful in the new change they are making. In the article Shin goes on to talk about Jessica Carpenter (Takoma City Clerk) and how she “estimates that about 90 16- and 17-year-olds have registered to vote.” Even though it is a small turnout of these new voters, it will bring a better understanding of opinions in the
Voter Turnout in Texas As stated in the prompt voter turnout in the state of Texas is amongst the lowest in the nation. Many people seem to be confused or in awe as to why Texas has such a low voting rate. The truth in reality is that there are quite a few reasons why the turnout in Texas is so low.
First, a current photo ID will be required to vote. This could be a driver 's license, US passport, military ID card, or any photo ID issued by a government agency. For anyone without an acceptable photo ID, free voter ID cards will be offered at local government offices like the DMV or a county office. To get a voter ID card, the applicant must bring their social security card to the office and fill out a voter ID application.
However, there are several ways to combat this problem. One way to get more voters to show up at the polls is have election officials mail ballots to all registered voters. This makes it easy for registered voters to select their candidates on their own time. This method to obtain more voters is in place in two states currently, Oregon and Washington. This method has proved effective because “in the 2010 midterm elections, just [Oregon and Washington] exceed 70 percent participation” (Koas).
Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages represents the Twenty-Second district of New York. The Twenty-Second district includes the areas of Elmont, North Valley Stream, Valley Stream, South Valley Stream, North Woodmere, Floral Park, South Floral Park, Bellrose Terrace, Stewart Manor, and parts of Franklin Square. The district heavily weighs more on the democratic side, however, there is a balance of the number of voters who do come out and vote. The voters that are independent are not very significant.
It is clear that American voters tend to avoid local elections and off-year elections. Run-off elections are also likely to register lower voter turnout as compared to first-round elections. The larger the gap between first round elections and run-off elections, the higher the decline in voter turnout. Moreover, there are lower percentages of young people voting as compared to the older population. This is an important point to note since it highlights that young people do not have information guiding them on the importance of voting.
The right to vote was a privilege given to only a particular group of people in the past. The right to participate in the judicial system to some is an honor. This process allows people to voice and chose who they want in office or what issue they want to support. Voter Id laws are incorporated into our society as a form of control in order to keep people silent. Voter id laws are under controversy because the law is viewed as being discriminatory against minorities.
All things considered if the council wanted to boost turnout, they could’ve put the issue on the ballot, there were other solutions. It 's understandable, as a 17 year old myself I see the way some 16 and 17-year-olds are and I’d be cautious to grant them voting rights too but as stated before, I believe that although we lack experience, the City Council should still allow 16 and 17-year olds to vote. Obviously, it will be up to the City Council members to implement certain justifications to ensure that the teenagers registering to vote are both knowledgeable and interested in voting. If the problem is voter turnout every extra vote counts and with a little background knowledge even the smallest amount can make a difference. Voting is afterall a privilege and thus should not have any discriminations no matter what sex, color, race or
