Violence is a terrible thing, but is also essential in life. Without violence, there would be no such thing as reality, and no such person a real person. We walk in a world of two types of people: real and unreal. The real people have seen and experienced violence. The slaughtering process emotionally disturbs Jurgis’ family and all the people who had accompanied them on their tour. In the slaughterhouse, pigs squealed in pain to the point that visitors could no longer be comfortable. On his observation, Sinclair believes that the slaughterhouse has promoted inhumane behavior in people. It could be true because the capitalist society does not teach people to care for others, as opposed to socialism where everyone has a role to care for another member in the society. What is more, the tears from the visitors and the squeals of the animals in the slaughterhouse could not change anything
All of the children soon begin to “lose their minds,” but the debate is: are the actions of the boys based off of their environment, or biological factors? The behaviors of the boys are directly related to biological factors, because of past experiences, lack of resources, and brain development. First and foremost, the behaviors of each boy may be directly related to biological factors, because of past experiences. It is a part of life that there are superior moments, and bad moments as well. However, in most cases the bad moments are what shape us as humans today.

After hearing that his younger brother, Sonny, has been put in jail due to drug use, he remembers his childhood, and how they both never did really get along. Both Sonny and the narrator feel a sense of “darkness outside”, and this “darkness” is what creates the miscommunication between the brothers (Baldwin 338). Sonny changed his normality due to not being noticed during his childhood, and the drastic change causes the older brother to feel uncomfortable seeing his brother, because Sonny told him that “he was dead as far as [he] was concerned” (351). Their struggles caused them to lose contact, and to slowly build that invisible barrier between their
Injustices, tragedies, and unfortunate circumstances have plagued humankind for all of existence. Many of these problems have arisen from the society of man, and could not be found in nature. The hatred, selfishness, prejudice, and maliciousness seen in so many injustices man created unnecessarily, as well as all the suffering it causes does not need to exist. If an individual witnesses a crime or injustice occurring, it is their responsibility to defend the weak and fight for whatever is morally right, even at the cost of themselves.
