The crusades were dark times they were very violent. There were two sides during the crusades. The crusaders are attacking and fighting for control over the Holy Land which contains Jerusalem. Then the Muslims were on the other side defending against the crusaders and fighting to stay in control of the Holy Land.the crusades had lost an appeal over time due to the fourth
The crusades impacted the way we live today in many ways. In the outcome, there were both positives and negatives associated with the crusades. It was violent, deceased many, and turned cities into ruins but it also was a job opportunity for merchants and brought many new luxuries to certain places. Some motivation for people to fight in the crusades were different than its organizers. The original reason many wanted to come fight in the crusades is that it would relieve them of all of their sins.
The Crusades started in 1095 when Pope Urban II wanted to take back Jerusalem. I think the results of the Crusades was more positive than negative than positive since people lost interest in them. Not only that, they killed and abused many innocents. One of the reasons the Crusades were more negative is because people lost interest in them.
Introduction: Provide background information on the Crusades, restate the DBQ question, state thesis with reasons. (include academic vocabulary and underline) The results of the Crusades was probably more negative than positive. In “Doc 4”, It states that “Moreover, the assault of one Christian people on another, when one of the goals of the Fourth Crusade was reunion of Greek and Latin churches, made the split between the Greek and Latin churches permanent.” The Crusades had a lot of hatred to the religions, and by 1204 the Crusaders had lost some of their appeal because the knights agreed to attack the Byzantine Capital instead.
Maybe it was none of these reasons, but you have probably still heard about it. The Crusades or “Holy Wars” was a conflict that lasted over 250 years. They took place in the Middle East, around a city named Jerusalem. Jerusalem was not a normal city though, it was the “Holy land”
The Crusades was one of the most bloodiest wars in history. This was a series of wars mostly revolving around 4 specifics. The first crusade started in 1096 but, was called for by Pope Urban ll in 1095. In this crusade the successfully took over Jerusalem. The second crusade began in 1147 and was followed by the third crusade in 1189 and fourth in 1202.
The Crusades were a series of religious wars fought between Christians and Muslims in the Middle Ages, spanning over 200 years, that began in 1095 and lasted until the fall of Tripoli in 1291. The Crusades started as a direct result of Pope Urban ii's speech at Clermont in 1095, where, due to his religiously based outlook on life, he characterized Muslims as violent and immoral and depicted the Crusaders as righteous defenders of Christianity. Pope Urban ii's speech perfectly represents the European's attitude towards the Muslim groups they were attacking; however, these attitudes were modified to fit various other ethnic groups, such as Jewish and Eastern Christians. The Crusaders associated many Jewish groups with negative aspects such as
The end of the 11th century was the beginning of the first campaign called Crusade, which was later followed by other crusades. It was a period of great fighting for the lands and religious ideologies between Christians and Muslims. In other words it was a period of big changes, when thousands of peasants and soldiers died and a lot of towns were devastated. The first crusade was the biggest movement of Christians to Holy land. In comparison with other campaigns it was the most successful.
The longest series of religious wars, the Crusades were a black spot on both Catholic and Islamic religions. The Crusades, fought between Christian Europeans and the Muslim Turks, occurred between the years of 1095 to 1272 (Alchin, "The Crusades”). In this total of nine Holy Wars, the goal of both sides was to obtain the holy land from the other. Out of the nine of the Crusades only three were notable; the First Crusade (1095-1099), Second Crusade (1147-1149) and the Third Crusade (1189-1192).
Pope Urban II’s speech at Clermont in 1095 was a call to crusade given outdoors to the nobles, commoners and church leaders of the Western European Christians (the Franks). The people were moved by this speech and it changed history, launching the first crusade to capture Jerusalem from the Muslim Turks. After hearing Pope Urban II’s speech, thousands of Western European Christians were moved to embark on the dangerous journey and fight in the crusade. I believe the main reasons they were moved and persuaded to fight was; 1) they felt it was their Christian duty, 2) Pope Urban promised them absolution for their sins and 3) they felt compelled to defend Christianity, their holy land and the Eastern Christians.
The purpose of the Crusades were for political and economic gain because of the military threat from the Muslims, potential resulting success, and control of Jerusalem. One of the political and economic benefits of the Crusades was the defeat of Muslim enemies. In Pope Urban II’s 1095 speech that asked for recruits, it stated, “They have occupied more and more of the lands of those Christians, and have overcome them in seven battles. They have killed and captured many, and have destroyed the churches and devastated the empire” (Document 1). Pope Urban II wanted Christians to go to the Middle East to fight because Arabs and Turks attacked their fellow Christians and conquered Christian land.
The Crusades was a turning point in history because it depleted the population, made the relationships between religions very strained, and introduced a variety of new ideas and products to the Europeans/Crusaders. The Crusades began after Emperor Alexius requested Pope Urban III to find him a couple of hundred mercenaries who would help him take back the Holy lands after the Muslims had taken it over and had limited their access to their biblical sites. He supported their claim to the crusades by saying that God owns all the land and that it was meant for his children, but since the Muslims stole and inhabited his land, so they must take it back. Pope Urban III gave a speech to all of western christendom, saying, “This royal city, therefore, situated at the center of the world, is now held captive by His enemies, and is in subjection to those who do not know God, to the worship of the heathens. She seeks therefore and desires to be liberated, and does not cease to implore you to come to her aid.”.
The First Crusade was fought because of the change from . Arab to Turkish control over Jerusalem. effect on the people that were allowed to live there, and . the beliefs that they could have. Since the city was .
Many things happened during the crusades. First crusaders left there families, the women and children where left to fend for themselves. In the first and only successful crusade the crusaders killed all Muslim inhabitants of Jerusalem. Although the crusaded was successful, within 46 years the land had to be fought for agin. All thought there was other crusades they still didn 't manage regain the holy land.
The Crusades were successful failures because they did not meet many of their goals, but left lasting effects. The Crusades was an attempt by the Roman Catholic Church to regain the Holy Lands from the Muslims. They believed they were fighting for god and all sins would be forgiven and defend the Byzantine Empire from the Turks. The first Crusade (1096 -1099) was successful for the Christians because they had a clear and organized religious based purpose. Crusaders the Christian armies were able to hold Jerusalem and in the process led to a massacre of Jews.
The Christian View vs. The Muslim View of the Crusades The crusades were a set of different military actions that were sanctioned by the Catholic Church and the papacy. Their intention was to recapture Holy Lands they believed were rightfully theirs from the Muslim people that had invaded it. As any attack on a large group of people would do, every major group was affected. The Christians had their own reasons and beliefs for going on these Crusades.
