I was raised in the family that centered around how to relate to other people. When I moved to another country that was different from where I had been raised, I wondered how I could survive this change. There are many differences in these two countries - Vietnam and America. Vietnamese culture is collective while the American culture is individualistic. There is also other differences is the holiday celebrations, for example, the Tết (or Lunar) New Year in Vietnam and the solar New Year in America. Vietnamese people eat three meals a day and each meal has a different kind of taste. For breakfast, for example, Vietnamese may have light pho soup which is a Vietnamese soup made with a broth, rice (or rice noodles), and some kind of meat (usually beef or chicken). The other two meals may be the same also, because Vietnamese people work all day for the living and are not wealthy. Since we eat almost the same meal every day, we would get use to eat same food and it would get boring to eat it. To prevent this, the food in each dish has many different kind of colors and simple changes are made, like mixing a little cilantro with the soup to increase the taste. (Cilantro is a kind of herb.) Sometime the vegetables we eat grow in the backyard. All kind of dishes in Vietnam have a variety of tastes. For example, we make fish sauce to eat with Bún Thịt Nướng (grilled pork with noodles) and have noodles and meat to eat with a salad. This meal also contains pepper, lemon, garlic sugar, and water. The different vegetables mix together to make up the special taste that many people like to eat. While American food also has a variety of herbs in it, the taste, for me, is kind of unique and different. For example, Macaroni and Cheese has cheese and noodles. For me that not enough, so I put some other ingredients in it to make is better when people eat

It is a clean environment with signs saying no smoking and no artificial fats on the wall with washing your hand sign above the sink. The storage room is very close to the chopping station and there were big pans for frying large quantity of food.
In the article, "How The Taco Counquored America" it states how sometimes food from other countries changes when they come to the U.S.. First, people move around the world and lose connection with their homeland. For example, Rachel L. Swarns moved away from the bahamas and started to lose her way of life. She lost connections with family and friends in the bahamas, and her kids won 't eat her dishes from her culture. Second people might choose other food compared to their food.
The Vietnam War saw the highest proportion of blacks ever to serve in an American war. During the height of the U.S. involvement, 1965-69, blacks, who formed 11 percent of the American population, made up 12.6 percent of the soldiers in Vietnam. The majority of these were in the infantry, and although authorities differ on the figures, the percentage of black combat fatalities in that period was a staggering 14.9 percent, a proportion that subsequently declined. Volunteers and draftees included many frustrated blacks whose impatience with the war and the delays in racial progress in America led to race riots on a number of ships and military bases, beginning in 1968, and the services' response in creating interracial councils and racial sensitivity

My multicultural upbringing as a Korean-American of a low socio-economic status enabled me to embrace a culture of inclusivity. Furthermore, I straddled the lines of different cultures by being raised in a traditional Korean environment at home while exploring in the traditions of American culture outside of my home. In Vietnam, there is a rapid increase in the number of children being sent to bilingual or only English-language school to learn English since they just start using their mother tongue. Since English is an international language, most parents reckon that learning how to use efficiently it is important for children to have more opportunities in the future.
