Vaccinations: Public Health Concerns

Also, it is stated that unvaccinated people should have a harder time to opt out of being vaccinated by having a higher health care cost, higher insurance, and separate activities. All of those are over-exaggerated for this issue because, they all call for the government to intrude into people’s personal lives and not giving people the freedom of their rights. In addition, some people do not get vaccinated because of religious views, but it is stated that they can opt out if their religion is documented. So, what happens to the people that become sick and are not vaccinated and cannot afford health care? They could possibly spread a new disease that vaccinations do not cover and puts vaccinated and people who are not vaccinated at risk.

Problem Immunization is the process when an individual is made immune or resistant to an infectious disease, normally through vaccination (WHO, 2015). Individuals of all ages should receive a shot in order to better protect themselves and the individuals around them. In 1809, Massachusetts became the first state in the nation to require an immunization policy, since then the entire nation now has federal policies implementing vaccinations to protect the public health (Martindale-Hubbell, 2015). However, these policies are typically generated for the younger generation of the population. Federal Immunization policies in the United States are implemented solely to ensure the safety of oneself and the society as a whole.

Vaccinations have been promoted since 1781, vaccinations are injected for Americans to maintain a healthy life and not become ill due to disease caused from measles, mumps, polio and several other diseases. However, there are those that do not agree with getting their children vaccinated due to religious beliefs and there are some people believe vaccinations can cause birth defects. Although, those are their beliefs; however there are those that enter our nation without being vaccinated and it is ultimately putting our children at risk for contracting various diseases, for example the Disneyland measles outbreak of 2014.

Through countless hours of research doctors have been able to construct different solutions to strengthen human immunity. Strengthening immunity among all people will reduce the amount of illnesses, and reducing the illnesses will decrease the mortality rate. Due to vaccinations promoting better immunity that significantly helps fight infection, it benefits patients that are at risk of diseases and helps prevent the spread of infection.

Due to some diseases that have taken thousands of children's lives, vaccines have eliminated diseases completely and others are close to being extinct too. The Department of Health and Human Services believes that vaccines will save children’s lives. The article states, while some people choose not to vaccinate their children because of possible side effects that are associated with them or the harmful ingredients that are in the vaccine, that is minor compared to the actual disease they are protecting against. By getting vaccinated people are not only looking out for themselves they are also looking out for the people close to them. When a person gets vaccinated they do not have to worry about getting sick and they also do not have to worry about being the reason their family and friends get sick either. Also vaccinations, can mean the difference between life and death. If a deadly disease is going around and a person is not vaccinated they have a higher chance of contracting the disease and getting deathly ill. People against vaccinations would say that vaccinations are what cause the illness, which is why they refuse to get them.

Vaccines are like traffic lights; they ensure the safety of the public, be in heavily crowded areas, like schools, or densely trafficked roads. Traffic lights only work when all people follow the rules. If a car runs a red light, the car runs the risk of killing innocent pedestrians who are complying with the prescribed rules. Vaccines, if not utilized by most people, are ineffective. Even though some parents are concerned over the safety of vaccines, children who go to public schools should not be granted exemptions because vaccines are necessary to prevent outbreaks, children who do not receive vaccines are at risk of disease, and medically compromised children rely on vaccines to prevent disease.

Many people may think that vaccination is a bad thing, that instead of preventing it causes illness, that is not natural. Natural or not, there are many reasons as to why we should vaccinate us and the younger generation. Most of the time children don’t like vaccination because it hurt, but is the responsibility of a parent to seek the wellbeing of his or her child.
