What treatments are used and what is included in the sessions all depends of the nature of the condition. Common activities include massage therapy, stretching and exercising and the use of technology such as lasers and ultrasound. Hydrotherapy and electrotherapy sessions may also be included in the treatment programme.
During the initial treatment, at the beginning of the two weeks, the physio may carry out a series of tests. Electrotherapeutic modalities are tests such as using a TENS device, commonly used to reduce pain in pregnancy, and ultrasounds, also used in pregnancy. The TENS machine created low currents which is then transferred to the skin via electrodes and it carry out the same function as in pregnancy, it helps to decrease pain

Massage therapy shouldn’t be carried out in the acute stage post injury, if the sprain is only first degree it can take from 48hours to a week before massage therapy can be carried out. This is due to the massage causing increased bleeding, prolonging the healing process. By including it several weeks into the treatment this should avoid excess bleeding. There are different types of massages that are used as techniques to help the healing process. Effleurage is a massage in which involves oils to warm the muscle area so that it is ready for a deeper massages. Petrissage helps to loosen the muscle fibres, this technique involves kneading the injured area, one hand pulling one way and the other hand pulling the other way. Stripping the muscle, this helps to remodel the scar tissue by the thumb working deep on the muscle in the direction of the blood flow. Lastly Circular frictions can be applied, this helps to break down scar tissue and realign in. This type of massage helps to smooth out tight muscle knots so that the patient is comfier and more …show more content…
This is so that the hamstring will gain back flexibility and elasticity while healing as well as strength. Exercises to help stretch the muscle at the beginning of the treatment may include the straight leg hamstring stretch. This should be felt in the back of the leg but it shouldn’t be painful. The aim of this stretch is to get a little elasticity to the healing tissue. The stretch should be repeated twice a day in 3 sets of 10 seconds. Another excise that could be carried out in the bent leg hamstring stretch. This should help to stretch the muscle fibres closer to hip, instead of the knee like the other exercise. Performing this stretch twice a day as well and performing 3 sets of 10 seconds should help to elasticise the fibres at the top of the hamstring. This should not be painful.
To strengthen the hamstring there are many different exercises that will slowly have a strengthening impact on the muscle but won’t push it so much that the healing process is set back. A basic strengthening exercise is the seated hamstring curl. This is when the patient places and secures a resistant band to their foot and the other end is either held or attached to a fixed point. They would then pull their heel into their buttocks meaning the hamstring muscle will contract. To begin with the patient should aim to carry out 3 sets of 8 reps and then build the amount
2 Keeping your upper body and shoulder in place, roll your forearm so your palm faces upward. When you can go no farther, use your opposite hand to help roll it more upward until you feel a gentle to moderate stretch. Hold for __________ seconds. 3 Slowly release the stretch and return to the starting position.
The hamstrings action is knee flexion and hip extension, its origin is at the ischial tuberosity, its insertion is at the posterior aspect of the medial condyle of the tibia, and it is innervated by the sciatic nerve. To strengthen and stretch these two muscles, I would recommend that he lie flat on his back and put a resistance band at the arch of his foot. He should bring his knee to his chest, and then try to extend the leg against resistance. This will strengthen his quadriceps and hamstrings but the resistance band will also keep his knee from hyperextending from side to side. The gracilis’ action is adduction and internal knee rotation, its origin is at the pubic ramus, its insertion is at the medial surface of the tibia below the condyle, and its innervated by the femoral nerve and the obturator nerve.
You will sit on the floor and clasp your hands. You then rotate left and right rapidly with your hands touching the floor each time. Both of your feet must be off the ground at all times as well! This is a fast-paced movement exercise and you have to do 50 repetitions! No doubt, you will feel the pain during the entire session; however, all the pain will be gone right away when you stop.
Choose activities that do not cause you pain or discomfort. Take medicines only as directed by your health care provider. Do stretching exercises as directed for your legs and especially the large muscles in the front of the thigh (quadriceps) as directed. Keep all follow-up visits as directed by your health care provider. This is important.
Restricted joints result in a decrease in flexibility and range of motion. This therapy is effective for improving range of motion and comfort with flexibility. The therapist will focus on kneading muscles, tendons, ligaments, connective tissue, and joints. After a session, most people will experience greater fluidity in joints, which can improve comfort and reduce injuries. Blood Flow and Circulation
Stress comes from overpressures in daily life, lack of sleep and emotional burdens. A Massage Therapist’s use of healing touch affects not only the musculoskeletal structures, but also the nervous system, which in effect causes changes in the systemic reactions of the entire body. According to Marc White, the executive director of the Canadian Institute for the Relief of Pain and Disability, “Research shows that massage therapy including remedial exercise can reduce pain, anxiety and stress, improve joint movement, sleep and ones quality of life.” (https://www.rmtbc.ca/sites/default/files/files/ImprovingBCHealth_Dv(1).pdf).
Compression therapy increases circulation and retains therapeutic heat to promote healing of injured or inflamed muscles. Aids in the recovery and rehabilitation of pulled groin, quad or hamstring, hip flexor injury, hip bursitis, labral tear, sciatic nerve pain, SI joint pain, and other injuries that cause
Kbands Leg Resistance Bands make your workouts more intense and work your legs, hips, hip flexors, and core muscles. Strengthening the core muscles improves your balance, flexibility, agility, and endurance, which, in turn results in explosive punches and kicks. One more key feature of our resistance training is that it can help reduce the risk of sports related injuries by improving your overall balance and alignment. In order to start the resistance training, you simply need to strap on the resistance band around each of your legs just above your knees, clip the two resistance bands together, and your leg muscles are all set for an intense challenging workout.
Another exercise would be a long adductor stretch to loosen up the inner thigh area. Physical therapist assistants use a variety of techniques including stretches to help patients recover fast. Other hip injuries like snapping hip where a patient would “ feel a snapping sensation or hear a popping sound in [the] hip when [they] walk” (AAOS). The solution to this injury would be to do side-lying leg lift to strengthen the hip. Also, hamstring stretches on a wall would loosen the hip up allowing it to be more flexible.
Some of the most common injuries you can get are Ankle sprain, Groin pull, and Hamstring strain. For all of those injuries you need to exercise them after or that part of your body isn’t going to be as strong as everything else. If its not as strong as everything else then you won’t perform at your best. An article written by the National Sports Medicine Institute said that you should “At least 48 hours of rest for the injured area. Apply ice packs to the affected area for period of between 10 and 30 minutes.
Identification of the problem is the first step. Sports massage therapists are often the first to notice the problems. Some injuries that a sports massage therapist might be able to help with are: sprains, strains, plantar fasciitis, and tendinitis. - Bodywork can improve flexibility. Most of the time a sports massage is spent with the massage therapist stretching the body parts to improve joint flexibility and relieve joint pain.
Some of the techniques a physical therapist may use during treatment are: •
Many times when the body experiences an injury, a natural defense system is to protect the injury by stopping the muscles around it from moving. They act almost like a splint to keep the area immobilized. When this happens, the muscles can become stiff. A massage therapist can work these muscles and get the blood flowing more freely again. Choosing a therapist who is experienced in this type of massage can be found in several different ways.
Sports massage aims to treat and prevent injuries caught up in sports activities. The therapist focuses on stressed and overused areas due to its repetitive movements. This massage helps athletes in training before, during and after sports activities. 5. Prenatal Massage: This type of massage is safe and effective for both mother and the fetus.
• Place the hands under the glutes. • For extra resistance, hold a dumbbell with your feet. • Raise the legs and hold them for a second. • Do 3 sets of 15 repetitions. 7.
