The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is like a long line of dominoes, once one thing goes wrong, it just brings on more bad occurrences.Throughout the entire story there is always some debacle, whether it’s for the better or worse of the characters. The outcomes of these debacles cause the story to take multiple turns in a way that the reader would not expect. Most people say everything happens for a reason, but sometimes everything happens because of a reason. Within the story I believe the reason is not one decision, not one debacle, but one person. These tragic events all occurred because of the fight between Romeo, Mercutio, and Tybalt. This causes me to believe that Tybalt is to blame for the tragic disasters in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. From the beginning of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Tybalt has hated the idea of Romeo and his appearance at the Capulet party. Tybalt: “Uncle, this is a Montague, our foe, A villain, that is hither come in spite, To scorn at our solemnity this night.” (Shakespeare, 393). Tybalt wanted to kill Romeo for being at the Capulet party, but he was quickly stopped in order to prevent fighting. Ever since then, Tybalt has had the idea to kill Romeo. …show more content…
Tybalt started this battle which Romeo wanted no part of, Romeo: “Tybalt, the reason that I have to love thee, Doth much excuse the appertaining rage, To such a greeting. Villain am I none. Therefore farewell. I see thou knowest me not.” (Shakespeare, 427). Even though Romeo wanted no part in the fighting, he was dragged in once Tybalt killed Mercutio. If Tybalt hadn’t killed Mercutio, than Romeo wouldn’t have killed Tybalt. Romeo: “Alive in triumph, and Mercutio slain? Away to heaven respective lenity, And fire-eyed fury be my conduct now!” (Shakespeare,
The first person to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet is Lord Capulet because Lord Capulet being so strict about the person Juliet married, he leads a train of events causing the young Romeo and Juliet to commit suicide. Capulet wouldn't have been the only one to protest Romeo and Juliet's marriage, but he had the final say in Juliet life. Lord Capulet, “Send for the county. Go tell him of this. I'll have this knot knit up tomorrow morning” (4.2.23-24).
The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Tybalt is responsible for his own death because he starts the fight, he’d still be killed by the prince for starting another fight and killing Mercutio, and his angry personality makes him continue to get into fights. The first reason that Tybalt’s death is his own fault is the fact that he starts this fight just like the many others that he had
Tybalt always kept Romeo’s intrusion in the back of his mind, until one day when he decided to act upon it. “Turn and draw” (3.1.38), he tells Romeo. Romeo being a wise young man doesn’t fight him. Tybalt has to take his rage out on someone, so he decides to fight and kill Mercutio. Romeo then kills Tybalt and gets banished.
But, Tybalt's is also to blame in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo kills Tybalt right after marrying Juliet and this story starts to have a downfall. As Tybalt in Act 1, Scene 1 states, “ What, art thou drawn among these heartless hinds? " Tybalt makes fun of Benvolio for trying to stop the fight. Almost immediately you see that he is a arrogant and impulsive character.
Love can be deadly. Especially in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, where these two particular individuals can’t share a mutual loving relationship, because of the differences of their community and family. There is much hatred dragging down this love at first sight relationship, in which they have no other choice but to do die with dignity and passion for one another. Although some people believe Romeo, and Juliet have died because of the man that married them, this is not so Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin the one who seeked for conflict and horror, is truly the culprit. It says in the Bible, “Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe” (Exodus 21: 24-25).
