The Mexican War of 1846 started because the U.S. had this idea of that they had to possess land from the Pacific to the Atlantic destined by God also known as “manifest destiny.” During this time, the U.S. President, James Polk, had the leadership and wanted to expand land and had in mind to annex Texas, occupy Oregon, and take control of California. The reason why the Mexican War began was due to Polk’s idea that he wanted to expand land west and he had also in mind to obtained Texas, Oregon, and California. In Texas there was a dispute over where the border line would be between Texas and Mexico.

After Texas won its independence from Mexico, the people who inhabited that area believed they were entitled to the entire land of, what was then, Texas. Manifest Destiny, or the belief of a God-given entitlement, was instilled in the hearts of many Americans; they believed God wanted them to expand outward. Yet the Mexicans weren’t prepared to give up all that land, and only allowed the Texans the area of land in which they inhabited. After the annexation of Texas in 1845, both the US and Mexico placed troops in the previously uninhabited land that the white Texans had believed they won. Thus began the Mexican-American war, and America, with its skilled military and greater population, easily defeated the Mexicans.

The Mexican-American War was an important turning point for the institution of slavery in the U.S. due to the acquiring of the states such as California, New Mexico, and the recognition of Texas’s annexation. With the new land acquired many disputes rose up on whether the states should be slave states or not, due to the good land and weather conditions in California and New Mexico perfect for farming (Doc.1). Manifest Destiny seemed like it was the most important for the south because of the better land but many Northern Democrats believed that slavery could not further expand (Doc.1) The Mexican-American war was a complete victory for the United States but the states gained became free states out numbering the number of the Southern slave

The United States fought with vigor, but they were no match for the Mexican soldiers, the shot that killed Davy Crockett was heard around the village. The Mexican-American war was from 1846-1848 but problems started to arouses before that. The Mexicans and the Americans both thought that the land was theirs. The Mexican claimed it but the Americans believed in Manifest destiny which means that the land was a gift from God. Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of American’s most valuable land, the war itself was unjust because the Texas was wrong from the beginning, the war was based on false pretenses, and the expanding of slavery was the goal.

The main problems that caused the Spanish-American War was the King and Queen clinged to Cuba and didn’t want to let go, that was a major issue for Cuba considering they were like us in 1776, wanted freedom to run their own country in their own way. Americans were outraged and wanted to get Spain out of American air, they refused to leave cuba. which caused major drama and two newspaper companies to use it as a competition to get more readers. The Maine, the U.S. battleship had been sent for citizens if any trouble had came about. The ship ended up exploding, and many people were killed.

The cause of this event is the Mexican American War. During the war president James K Polk sent Nicholas Trist to Mexico to Negotiate up to 30 million dollars. The Spanish American war began on February 10th of 1898, when an unknown bomb had sunk the USS battleship in the Havana Harbor. The reason for The Spanish American war was because Cubans were being treated as slaves. Many Cubans were dying of starvation. Cuba wanted to be a individual nation separated from Spain. President William Mckinley, was who had asked congress to call out war on Spain and even though that was not what he had in mind, which was to start a war, he still proceeded anyways.

It was April 25, 1846. The Mexican military invaded Texas, a disputed territory. When the U.S. military came to attack, the Mexicans killed 16 Americans. This is one of the many events leading to the Mexican American War. The Mexican-American War was a major war over Mexico’s land.

The U.S and Mexican border has always caused conflict in both countries since Europeans came to the Americas. The Spanish settled what is nowadays Mexico, while the English settled what is nowadays U.S. Eventually the two colonial powers met in what is now southwestern U.S. thus began a lifelong conflict between the two countries because of different national policies. Mexico had a policy of self protection.

In 1846, two superpowers of the Americas went to war against one another, Mexico and the United States of America. Though the war was purely based upon land expansion, the aftereffects were consequently very important to all the people who lived in either country. The three most important effects of this territorial war, known as the Mexican-American war, include the increase of miners and settlers pushing west, the dramatic decrease of the Native American population, and the increase in sheer number of slaves and popularity of slavery. When the U.S. won the Mexican-American war, they gained over 500,000 square miles of land alone from the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, not including the Gadsden Purchase of 1853 which acquired an additional 29,000 square miles. With all this new land, there were many trail blazers that set out to conquer the wilderness.

Manifest destiny also affected the relationship with Mexico. Several factors led to the Mexican- American War in 1846. The factors were that the U.S citizens were moving into California and Mexico. Since there were many revolutions happening in Mexico throughout this time period the Mexican government was not able to protect the U.S citizens in this region. Another factor was that Mexico was upset that Texas declared independence from them and then the U. S annexed Texas in 1845.

When Mexico gained its independence from Spain in 1821, a string of ruthless dictators and weak presidents made Mexico an easy target for its powerful neighbor, the United States. The US swooped in to expand its territory and its popular institution of slavery. By doing so, the US started a war with Mexico that was justified for illegitimate reasons. The Mexican-American War was not justified because the US took Mexico’s land for the expansion of slavery, and justified their taking advantage of Mexico when it was politically weak by hiding behind Manifest Destiny.

The Mexican-American War changed the Unites States of America in a monumental way. This war changed The U.S.A.’s relationship with foreign powers and the economic standpoint of the nation. The Mexican- American war, and its strong ties to manifest destiny, shaped the nation in a country bordered by two seas with a chance for common folk and foreigners to have a sustainable life due to the gold rush. The war can also be accounted for the downfall leading to the Civil War over the conflict of slavery due to the land purchased in the wars treaty. Conflict between Mexico and the United States began when Texas, previously part of Mexico, became part of the United States.

The United States war with Mexico continues to be a divisive topic among many people because of its background. The Mexican-American war was a fight between Mexico and America for land. America’s belief at the time was Manifest Destiny, which meant that they believed that America should extend from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific ocean. In the end, America benefited from the war and got the land. The United States expanded its size, achieving their dream of Manifest Destiny.
