The main idea of this entry is about the stereotypes that come along with racism. Also, Brent Staples wants his readers to realize how much colored people sacrifice from their normality in order to fit in with society, in hopes of not being attacked or offended. The author proves this in his entry by mentioning ‘innocent’ behaviors, such as singing Beethoven, that he did in public in order to relief those surrounding him from danger. Moreover, the author compared hikers to the country’s bears in order to provide readers with a valid connection between black and colored people. The poet, Lascelles Abercrombie once said, “There is only one thing which can master the perplexed stuff of epic material into unity; and that is, an ability to see in particular human experience some significant symbolism of man 's general destiny.”. He talked about how powerful of a tool symbolism is and how it is the only thing that can truly define a highly complex ‘destiny’ or series of events. Symbolism is something that is found throughout Harper Lee’s book, To Kill a Mockingbird. Lee shows the reader that racism is a product of society,she portrays the matter through her symbolism of the mad dog, the birds and the bugs.

An example of this is when Katniss responds when Peeta says he doesn't want to be a killer, "Violence is never the answer, but fear can make you do the unthinkable"(Collins 280). This quote is showing how the author used a metaphor for how fear can be a force to push people to kill to show that the fear of not being killed causes us to kill. Another example of this is when Katniss is talking about her fear, "The fear that had been gathering in my chest like a storm cloud finally broke, unleashing a torrent of anger and frustration"(Collins 304). This quote about Katniss talking about her fear is showing how the author is using the metaphor of a storm cloud to emphasize how her fear will lead to an outburst causing violence and destruction much like a storm

Ray Bradbury used figurative language to describe the Tyrannosaurus Rex in “A Sound of Thunder. ’’ Ray Bradbury compared the legs to pistons, this means that the Tyrannosaurus Rex has strong legs. He compared it’s eyes to ostrich eggs, this means that the dinosaur has big eyes. He also compared muscles to thick ropes, this means that the dino has big thighs.

In chapter one, there is a particular emphasis on the Charleston Earthquake of 1886. The text discusses the different perspectives that black and white individuals had about the 1886 earthquake and natural disasters in general. Steinberg asserts that white individuals perceived the quake as natural phenomena. In contrast, black individuals perceived the quake as an act of god.

That quote shows just a little bit of how the story gets exciting and thrilling. The author uses both the suspense and the thrilling aspect to convey his theme. The short story, “A Sound of Thunder” uses two separate time periods, snobbish and cautious characters, a breathtaking and frantic plot, and multiple forms of conflict to convey his theme of showing the Butterfly Effect and demonstrating how causes for your actions can sometimes be gigantic.

Society in today’s world is very alike to society years ago, with different social classes and stereotypes. In “Just walk on by” by Brent staples, a variety of rhetorical devices are used in order to convey the message of how a black man is trying to show society that he is so much more than the color of his skin. The author explains how the character was characterized as violent and dangerous because he was black. Staples continues on a sort of journey with the character to show how he overcomes that stereotype, by whistling classical music to give the idea that he is mature and less threatening. Throughout the piece, Staples uses devices that will help the reader better understand the struggles that the character has to face on a daily basis.

The novel Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor is a heart wrenching story about an African American family going through very difficult times. Through many twists and turns racism, the Logan children learn what it's like in the cruel world outside their protected farmland. By sticking together as a family, Taylor shows how important a strong family relationship is. Had they not stuck together during these times they may not have made it through. In the end Mildred shows how when everyone works together, obstacles could be overcome.

There will come soft rains is a fictional short story about a so called “smart” house that makes breakfast for the family that lives in it and reads them stories and does things like clean itself with little mice that pick up crumbs and dirt. There are no people longer living in this house because of the nuclear war going on around them. The message of the story is to show that nature and other things go on like normal even without humans. Therefore In the story There will Come Soft Rains The author Ray Bradbury uses personification to convey the theme.

In the short story, “A sound of Thunder”, Ray Bradbury used figurative language to make a bigger impact on the story. When Eckels goes into the office he sees and hears, “... A sound like a gigantic bonfire burning all of Time, all the years and all the parchment calendars- all the hours piled high and set aflame.” The author, Ray Bradbury, wanted his audience to have a specific image set in the audience’s head. By using a simile he help the reader imagine how Eckle’s is going to get to the past.

Suffering and sacrifice can negatively shape people if they don 't have the endurance to learn from it and/or people that they can rely on. Like when Bo Jackson got kicked out of football because the other people did not know he was going on a trip. That just shaped him to never join that team because of anger when he could of had a original college football career. He had almost a 1.6 percent of getting in again. In the documentary You Don 't Know Bo some people may think that it is not related to the incredible and stunning novel called Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry.

The theme of Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder" is enhanced by his use of foreshadowing throughout the story. The story follows a man named Eckles on his journey to the past on a hunt for a real dinosaur. As the events in the past unfold, Eckles ultimately alters the future forever by taking a small step off the Path. The path is there to make sure the time travelers do not affect the future. Unfortunately, Eckles learns the true consequences of his actions when he returns to a changed future.

In Frankenstein, on Victor’s way home after being away for six years, a key moment in the novel that weather sets the mood is when “It echoed from Saleve, the Juras, and the Alps of Savoy; vivid flashes of light dazzled my eyes, illuminating the lake making it appear like a vast sheet of fire; then for an instant, everything seemed of pitchy darkness, until the eye recovered from the preceding flash” (Shelley 50). The author, Shelley uses weather to describe the murder of his young brother, William. The weather conditions effect Victor’s mood and convey his emotional feelings of Victor as being scared, sad, or depressed. The imagery in the quote relates to the thunder thus a way to broadcast the murder of his younger brother across the land and

Storms are used in plots to represent a variety of things, but generally show a changing of perspective and allows for a revelation. True to form this is when David becomes the “hero” he is meant to be and finds out Elijah’s villainous scheme. The rain is used as a progressive set to push the hero into self-awareness of what's going on around him. David’s journey ultimately sets polarity between the characterization between hero and monster, since the journey always surrounds the hero in test of morality and heroism and the villain is in the background and

The use of imagery in "Storm Warnings" conveys the literal and metaphorical meanings of the oncoming physical and emotional storms. Rich uses to imagery show the anxiety she is feeling about the storm in the beginning. For example, "The glass has been falling all the afternoon," and, "gray unrest moving across the land. " Both of these images have negative connotations, which show what she is feeling and what she sees.
