The Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson reflects what was going on at the time, so does “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” by Martin Luther King, Jr. These were both written because of the issues happening in their communities. The preamble gives the reasons why they must separate themselves and why they cannot tolerate a foreign ruler.
