Themes. Sometimes it takes a little bit of creativity to be discovered, but when it is A theme in literature is, in theory, what the book is all about. A book, such as Walk Two Moons, can have lots of them. Yes, there are a lot of themes in this book, explicit and implicit ones. But, in my opinion, the most important one is not the most explicit one that is displayed on the title of the book (which, in this case, would be to never judge others if you were never in their place), but the most implicit one. Therefore, the most important theme in Sharon Creech’s novel is that Salamanca, the main character in the novel, learned that grief can really change someone’s behavior, and that can lead to even worse things. In the beginning of the novel, the reader learned that Salamanca and her father were moving out of their farm home in Bybanks, Kentucky because the mother of the family decided to go “find herself”, and staying in that farm can lead to a lot of distress, because of all of the memories she left behind. The mother, which name is Chanhassen or Sugar, was trying to find herself by going on a road trip to Euclid, Ohio in a bus full of unknown …show more content…
According to the Kübler-Ross model, there are five different stages of grief, which someone can display or feel all of them to only one of them, in no particular order. The stages are: depression, bargaining, denial, anger, and acceptance. Some people also feel shock. These stages makes a lot of changes in the person’s behavior and therefore in their lives. In Walk Two Moons, it shows that Sal’s father appeared to be displaying a lot of anger, by pounding at the wall he used to chip with a hammer and a chisel. “On the night we got the bad news - that she was not returning - he pounded and pounded on that wall with a chisel and a hammer.” (Creech

I understood the Theme of the book ”Life As We Knew It” by Susan Beth Pfeffer because I like survival books so I can quickly infer that the theme is family survival. I think that the theme is family survival because Miranda’s family is trying to survive in the new harsh weather in the world. The theme is inferred when it comes to books because the author isn’t just going to tell you the theme because the author wants you to really understand the book. If you can infer the theme this means that you understand the book. The theme is family survival I can infer this because Miranda’s family is going through a hard time because Ms.Nesbitts ' died in the book.

The five stages of grief are denial, anger, depression, bargaining, and acceptance. In Elsewhere, Liz experiences this. When she first dies, she does not believe that she has died. She thinks she is in a dream and that she will wake up and be home.

Clink! Clink! Clink! This is the dreaded sound of the tireless work Luis must do, shining hubcap after hubcap after hubcap. This troubled character has many difficulties in his life, including his mother’s death, which led him to start up a fairly benign gang, created to help him escape his pain.
When people are traumatized by an event they are pushed to experience the five stages of grief. The “Gospel”, by Philip Levine and “the boy detective loses love”, by Sam Sax both use characters that are going through one of the stages of grief. Levine and Sax both explain the thoughts and process of what a person thinks when they go through these stages with imagery. Levine uses symbolism, a sad tone, and a set setting in “Gospel” to illustrate that grieving takes you into a depth of thoughts. Sax uses anaphoras, an aggressive tone, and an ambiguous setting to convey that grieving takes you into a tunnel of anger and rage.
During the stages of grief, people usually go through denial first. Denial is the stage where an individual will not accept the loss or death of someone or something. They will usually be overwhelmed with emotions they never felt before and get confused. After this, most people will proceed into the next stage, anger. Anger is when the victim of grief will express themselves negatively and will be mad at themselves or others for not doing something to prevent this.
Every novel or stories gives a fundamental ideas or lesson for the readers. Most of the lesson are informative and it brings a changes to the readers mind. There will be a universal of an ideas explored in a literature and readers can abstract numerous themes depending on each individual. Similarly, in the novel “the old man and the sea” Hemingway depicted several themes related to nature, people and so on. Imagine your mother is dead to you and under the title of “mother”, she is an empty void like the craters in the moon. The poem Moon written by Kathleen Jamie in 2012 emphasises the relationship between the speaker and the speaker’s mother. Jamie uses metaphor, imagery and symbolism to demonstrate the speaker’s and the speaker’s mother’s troubled relationship. The moon is an extended metaphor for the speaker’s mother. The speaker and mother has a rocky relationship, to the extent the speaker say that the moon is “not [the speaker’s] mother.”
Traditionally, authors rely on readers to detect the themes of their novels without having to explicitly state them. The theme of a novel typically resonates within the actions of characters, settings of the plot, and symbols throughout the book. Moreover, literary works tend to have multiple themes. While some thematic elements may be more prominent than others, the totality of these elements work together to build the novel. In Carrie written by Stephen King, he uses the characters, actions, and dialogue to develop themes of sin, revenge, and guilt.
