In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the tragedy of the young lovers is caused by lack of communication and poor choices. The young lovers allow the interference of adults to rule over them, due to dishonesty and inadequate information. Firstly, lying contributes to a tragedy in the play that results in a lack of communication.“I will not marry yet, and when I do, I swear it shall be Romeo, whom you know I hate, rather than Paris” (3.5.120-123). This demonstrates that Juliet is dishonest whilst she states that she will not marry Paris, and would prefer to marry Romeo, an enemy of Juliet's family, despite the fact that she secretly loves Romeo. This leads to the tragedy because Juliet is being dishonest and is hiding secrets from her family. Since Paris offers marriage to Juliet, Juliet proceeds to decline Paris' offer however, Juliet does not want to let her father down yet, has no choice but to demand Friar Lawrence to assist a solution that will not reveal Romeo and …show more content…
Balthsar states “her body sleeps in Capels’ monument and her immortal part with angel lives” This creates a conflict because Balthsar then rushes to Mantua to inform Romeo that Juliet is not alive, not knowing Juliet is still alive. (5.1.19-20) Therefore, this demonstrates the lack of communication in the play. A person’s decisions often lead to poor choices that cause them to be impatient as well as being thoughtless. Friar Lawrence suggests Juliet a sleeping potion that will cause her to be unconscious, which the poison will make Juliet appear as if she were dead for 42 hours. As Juliet chooses to take the poison she is continually impatient. “Romeo, Romeo, Romeo! Here’s drinks, I drink to thee” Juliet makes a poor
Firstly, he willingly agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet despite their families' feuding and them still being young. Secondly, he agrees to marry Juliet and Paris, complicating the situation and worsening conflicts. Finally, he suggests the misguided plan of faking Juliet's death, which results in a miscommunication and Romeo's tragic decision to end his life. Friar Lawrence bears significant responsibility for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet due to his irresponsible and ill-advised decisions. Their story serves as a reminder of how misguided actions and decisions can have a profound impact, underscoring the importance of thoughtfulness and wisdom when faced with complex
When Romeo is banished from Verona to Mantua due to his actions, Juliet is heartbroken. But her heart aches even further when she learns that she will be married to Paris. Wanting to escape the marriage and run away with Romeo, Friar Lawrence devises a plan. In this plan, Romeo will take Juliet away after she drinks a potion that will make her fall into a deep slumber for 42 hours, feigning death. Juliet takes the potion and falls asleep, and Paris, who could have married her, visits her tomb in morning.
This decision also comes back to haunt the characters later when Juliet and Paris are arranged to be married, but Juliet has already wed Romeo (III, iv), due to Friar Lawrence.
In Act 4, Scene 1, he gives Juliet a potion that made her appear dead for 42 hours. Friar Laurence tells Juliet “Take thou this vial, being in bed, and this distilled liquor drink thou off when presently through all thy veins shall run a cold and drowsy humor for no pulse shall keep his native progress but surcease. No warmth, no breath shall testify.” This plan ends up not working because Romeo is not informed in time of the plan and due to his impulsiveness he decides it's best to drink poison and Juliet to do the
Clarifying that the two were married, would have prevented Lord Capulet from forcing Juliet to marry Paris, and faking her death. Being an adult figure and holy man, it is the Friar’s responsibility to tell the truth and take the reigns on the situation. However, he fails at that and does not feel compelled to tell the Capulets that their only daughter has not actually died. When Juliet seeks guidance from him in her time of weakness, instead of devising a logical plan that could set things straight, he comes up with an elaborate plan with multiple factors that could go wrong. Once his high-risk plan is in motion and things begin to go astray when Romeo does not get the message of the plan, the Friar is obligated to resolve the mess he has caused.
Juliet must drink the potion much sooner than Romeo and the Friar are aware so she will be “dead” by her wedding. Juliet drinks the potion unknowing of what it will do to her: “Romeo, Romeo, Rome! Here’s drink. I drink to thee” (4.3.59-60). Romeo and Friar are completely unaware that Juliet has drunk the potion so their plan is already getting soiled.
Romeo and Juliet, a tragic play written by William Shakespeare, illustrates how actions made by those closest to us have a bigger impact on our lives than our own. Shakespeare reveals that the fundamental issue of the character's constant miscommunication, ignorance, and reckless behavior is ultimately at fault for the death of Romeo and Juliet. The miscommunication and ignorance the characters display and share throughout the play ultimately are at fault for Romeo and Juliet's tragic fate. The effects of continual ignorance completely altered the way characters perceived the situations and how everything was dealt with moving forward. Shakespeare used Romeo and Juliet’s desire for each other to advance the ignorance of the effects that these
Act 5 Scene 1 1. In the beginning of this scene, Romeo has the premonition of his lifeless lips being kissed by Juliet, and being brought back to life. 2. Balthasar informs Romeo that Juliet is deceased. Due to this news, Romeo goes to Verona to see Juliet and this disrupts Friar Laurence’s plan as now Romeo is in a tomb that he should be in.
Juliet can’t marry Paris, because she's already married to Romeo. Sense she is confused she goes to see Friar Lawrence, and his answer was to fake her death and then meet Romeo and they could escape together. As we know this did not happen and they both ended up dying, through the fault of the Capulet family. If they didn’t pressure Juliet to marry Paris she might not have had to go to Friar Lawrence. Lord and Lady Capulet put Juliet in a bad decision, be disowned or
Although The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is known as a classic, many people do not know whose to blame for the unfortunate event. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is about a boy and a girl falling in love. However, they can not marry because Romeo’s and Juliet’s families do not like each other. Due to the fact, their families do not like each other Romeo and Juliet start sneaking around to see each other. Friar Laurence is most to blame for The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet because he wed the two, told Juliet to drink the potion which made her appear dead and kept the relationship between Romeo and Juliet a secret.
Friar Lawrence is talking to Juliet when she goes to his cell, after Juliet tells Friar Lawrence her problem he comes up with the plan to give her a sleeping potion to make her appear dead so that Romo can meet her at the tomb when she wakes up, Romeo can take Juliet to Mantua. " A cold and drowsy humor, for no pulse / Shal, keep this native progress, but surcease. / No warmth, no breath shall testify thou livest. / the roses in thy lips and cheeks shall fade / To play ashes, thy eyes' windows fall / Like death when he shuts up the day of life."
Juliet’s parents had just forced her to marry Paris. Upset, Juliet runs to Friar Lawrence’s cell and threatened to kill herself unless Friar can come up with a plan so that Juliet can avoid the marriage. Friar Lawrence then tells Juliet a a solution to pacify her distress, “Take thou this vial, being then in bed, and this distilled liquor drink thou off… The roses in thy lips and cheeks shall fade… thou shalt continue two-and-forty hours, and the awake as from a pleasant sleep…and he and I will watch thy waking, and that very night shall Romeo bear thee hence to Mantua” (IV.i.92-117). Friar Lawrence gives Juliet a potion to fake her death. The Friar instructs Juliet that she should drink this potion before bed without anyone knowing.
Friar Lawrence has the idea to give Juliet a sleeping potion that would make her look dead. This would result in her arranged marriage with County Paris called off, and she would be able to run away with her true love Romeo. Friar tells Juliet that a message would be sent to Romeo informing him about this plan, but unfortunately Romeo never gets the message. Friar tells Juliet, “Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift; and hither shall he come; and he and I will watch thy waking…” (IV.i.114-116).
Because of the Friars previous mistake of having the secret marriage, Juliet's father is arranging her to marry Paris, a wealthy nobleman. Juliet obviously doesn't want to do it so she is desperate to find a way to get out of this. She considers killing herself but she consults with Friar Laurence. Little did she know both would have the same result. Friar Laurence is of course desperately trying to figure this out.
Communication is always crucial for the success and happiness in relationships. However, when done wrong, it usually results in failure. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, poor communication causes characters to make bad decisions that lead to the tragic end of Romeo and Juliet. Poor communication between the characters is found by keeping secrets, which prevents the revealing of truth and through assumption in which characters do not try to find the truth. As the play progresses it becomes evident that poor communication has negative impacts on the story causing the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.
