The Theme Of Night By Elie Wiesel

In Night, the theme is loss. This is illustrated in the text by telling us about how some people lost their things. Many people lost many of their belongings such as family members, teeth, homes, and personal belongings. In the beginning of the story, Elie lost his home because he and his family were forced to go to a concentration camp and work.

Despite 10,000,000 Jewish people going into the holocaust, only about 40% made it out alive. The Nazis would seperate families by killing their family members in order to make the Jewish people feel alone and isolated . Elie Weisel uses themes of isolation in his memoir, Night, to aid to development of the plot and to show the horrors of the Holocaust. The book Night covers Elie and his family's experience during WWII and their experience during the Holocaust.

Chosen Bonds “Blood of the covenant is thicker than water of the womb” - Common Proverb This proverb means the bonds one makes himself/herself are stronger than bonds one is made to have, but in Night by Elie Wiesel, the author shows that people can form stronger bonds with family, as to become that covenant. Night follows the author’s experience as a young Jewish boy in Sighet Romania during the Holocaust; at a mere 15 years, Wiesel had been subjected to living in ghettos, being separated from his mother and sisters, being beat and worked to death in concentration camps, and losing his father. Throughout this book, many of the people mentioned struggled with self preservation versus familial commitment and it has grown to be one of the major themes portrayed in Night. The theme of self preservation versus familial commitment is evident in the author’s family, other prisoners, and in Wiesel himself.

Going with the Maslow hierarchy they kept moving down in the needs to the bottom where they were not even giving the basic needs needed to survive and keep going. Where they are struggling with themself on not having what they need in life as humans. With psychological needs, you need relationships and family and during this Ellie got separated from his family and only had his dad left, and he also encountered negative human interaction which he had to adapt to, to survive. ¨Men to the left!

Giving up on your faith, having no faith, and doubting your God from the things you’ve been through, are all emotions that Ellie has been through. Emotional, and physical trauma from the Holocaust, Night shows Wiesel’s point of view and the tragedies that came along with the holocaust. This quote exemplifies the theme of doubting god because Moshi is a very religious man and speaks about God, but when they were taken to their deaths, he didn’t speak a word. The fear struck Moshi when he was in the face of danger and didn’t speak his name.

As the well-known 20th century Indian peacemaker Mahatma Gandhi had once said, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.” Although, Gandhi was probably rebuking his fellow Indians as they longed for revenge against the oppressive British, this civil rights leader could have been scolding the Germans under Hitler’s dictatorship during the 2nd World War in Night, an autobiography by Eliezer Wiesel. During the teenage lives of young Eliezer, he experiences numerous inhuman horrors. In addition, his entire family is deported from Sighet, Hungary to the Auschwitz concentration camp with thousands of other Jews. Many more of these deportations happened at about the same time, changing the entire Jewish culture and history for years to come.

There are many misconceptions about what happens inside concentration camps therefore, much has been written on the subject. Night by Eliezer Wiesel, In My Hands by Jennifer Armstrong, and "German Concentration Camps" by the CIA are three texts written about concentration camps during WWII. Each discusses what happened to prisoners during the war as well as ways prisoners survived these dehumanizing institutions. Hardships, Relationships, and a Harbour of Issues Often in stories and in real life the environments of a situation can affect people's experience and how they relate to other people. Positive experiences usually affect relationships in a positive manner. Likewise, bad experiences affect relationships in a negative manner. In Night, a memoir by Elie Wiesel, the setting creates significant hardship for the characters which changes their relationship with others. The concentration camps, the physical man-made setting of Night, are dark and muddy.

Night Essay Night has many themes, but when reading the book the main themes were, religion,violence and imprisonment. These themes all have there opposites also. Imprisonment played a big roll in the book because they book is telling you what it was like to be held hostage during the holocaust, what it felt like, what they did to survive. While being imprisoned for being jewish, they were also separated from their families, well Elie stayed with his dad but he got separated from his mother and sister, and couldn't do anything about it because if he tried he would most likely be thrown in a pit of fire. Being imprisoned comes with more than just being taken, Elie was starved, and just hated by everyone.

Through the time human beings have shown how far could the discrimination and hate go, and the effect that it has done. The book “Night’ ’by Elie Wiesel is a perfect example of this. Through the book readers are able to revive the horrible experiences that he has pass through the Holocaust. He is one the survivors of the holocaust. He was able to pass his experiences to words and tell the world what should no be repeated.

My theme for night was the preservation of self over others. Throughout the book many people become selfish and start to care only of themselves including Elie. The reason why I chose this as my theme is because I find it very interesting how under certain situations people change very rapidly. Elie soon comes to realize this , but does little to change it. Mostly ,because he needs to be this way in order to survive.

A recurring theme that is frequently present throughout Elie Wiesel's memoir, Night, is Eliezer's struggle with maintaining his faith in God. At the beginning of the memoir, Elizer was described as someone who is “deeply observant” (Wiesel 3) which means he is a profoundly religious person who devotes all his time to practicing his religion. He states, “by day I studied Talmud and by night I would run to the synagogue to weep over the destruction of the Temple” (Wiesel 3) proving his willing devotion to Judaism. The first time Elizer was questioned about why he practices his faith, he did not know how to answer because his belief in God and in his religion was so secure that it became second nature. The road to a relationship with God is not straight, it is ever changing with challenges and curves and ups and downs. This is a main theme in the memoir Night, by Elie Wiesel, where Elie has a struggling relationship with God. He thinks that God has abandoned him and his dad so he does not feel the need to continue his relationship with God. Elie was excited about his faith but the holocaust makes him feel angry and confused with God. Elie 's faith excites him from a young age and he wants to learn more about God.
