The Stamp Act Was The Cause Of The Boston Revolution

February 10, 1763 Treaty of Paris (French and Indian War) The end of the war has come. The seven years war started by the British declaring war against France. The French had been expanding into the Ohio Valley creating conflict amongst the countries. With the signing of the treaty France lost a lot of land.

The British Parliament decided to force taxes on us colonists to help pay for debt from war. A few of my most hated acts were the Sugar, Stamp, and Tea. The Sugar Act—1764—put a tax on several products like molasses and sugar. It was annoying having to know pay more money on certain items we used often. Me and others smuggled sugar and molasses, so we did not have to pay extra for it.

The American Revolutionary War was a war fought from 1775-1783, also known as the American War of Independence, between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the thirteen colonies. The colonies wanted independence and free from British rule. In order to gain their independence the colonies had to fight for it.

These acts taxed simple living necessities at that time such as glass, lead or paint. The colonists were outraged at these taxes. It was very hard to develop a community when the colonists couldn't get the basic materials for surviving. Many people would smuggle these materials to avoid losing the money. There were also many riots due to the anger of the colonists.

To understand why the Sugar Act proved to be a catalyst to the Stamp Act, one must look at the responses of the colonists. As stated before, the Seven Years’ War was draining on the British government and at the same time draining on the American colonies as well. A significant portion of the colonial economy was diverted to providing the food and supplies the British Army. The merchants and shippers assumed that the highly visible tax imposition was the cause of their economic struggles. This transfer of burden translated into the sufferings and hardships of the colonists.

The British Parliament passed the Stamp Act on March 1765 to tax the colonies in order to raise money to pay off military debts. This act required the colonists to buy a stamp from England whenever they bought paper items such as newspapers, legal documents, licenses, and more. However, the colonists immediately protested because they did not see it as a way to raise money. The colonists were angry because everyday items were being taxed, and this led to many riots in numerous cities. As a result of colonial defiance in not buying the stamps required for paper items, multiple colonial courts were shut down.

After the French and Indian war, British parliament had decided that the American colonists needed to pay their share in taxes. When parliament began attempting to exert influence on the colonists, many Americans rebelled and turned to smuggling goods without paying charges or duties. Although the Sugar Act was put into effect in order to prevent smuggling and encourage colonists to purchase British goods, it came with courts being establish and appointing judges to rule on whether a person is innocence or guilty. Being that colonists began to have a drive for independence, it ultimately led to the parliament implementing the Stamp Act to have a sense of control amongst the colonies. As seen in “Various British Act and the Colonists Responses” (Doc 3) One of the acts is the Quartering Act. The Quartering Act was passed in 1765 and required colonists to let the British soldiers stay in their homes and they had to house and feed them. This was seen as unfair and was an invasion of the colonists' privacy and violation of their rights because they were forced to bring the strangers into their home and give them the best bed in the house. The Boston Massacre was a street fight that occurred on March 5, 1770, between a “patriot”. They were throwing sticks, snowballs, and trash at a group of British troops. The loyalists got very annoyed with the patriots so they shot into the mob killing five. The riot began when around 50 colonists attacked a British sentinel.
