Because this amendment seems to be far removed from Americans ' modern-day lives, should it be repealed? Why or why not? No, I do not think it should be repealed. Just because it hasn`t ever been used doesn`t mean that it should be removed. It doesn`t hurt anyone by keeping the Amendment. In the distant future, there is also the possibility of needing to quarter soldiers into private homes. If this Amendment is repealed, the government can very well do that. Just to be safe, the Amendment should be kept. Evaluating Which freedom in the Bill of Rights do you consider to be the most important, and why? All five freedoms are very important, but I believe the freedom of speech is the most important. Freedom of speech allows us to speak our mind. It`s the very foundation on what our government runs on. It`s also not healthy to keep our emotions bottled up inside. Free speech allows us to say what we want when we are emotional, which is also very
The Fifth Amendment ‘’The fifth amendment is an old friend and a good friend. It is one of the great landmarks in man’s struggle to be free of tyranny, to be decent and civilized. It is our way of escape from the use of torture.’’ -William O. Douglas The first ten amendments, known as the bill of rights, were written to help look after each personś guaranteed freedoms from being violated by the government.
Finally, with the ratification the fifteenth amendment in 1870s, it secured the vote for the African Americans, and it forbid states from denying any citizens from the right to vote based on race, color, or “previous condition of servitude.” These three amendments were significant changes during the Reconstruction period because all people, not just white, can fully enjoy being an American citizen without worrying over their race or

The Sixth Amendment: The Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution is mainly directed towards ensuring the rights of the accused. Under this amendment, criminal defendants have the right to a speedy trial. When determining whether or not this right has been violated, the Supreme Court analyzes: how long the delay lasted, the reason, the degree of prejudice to the defendant if caused, and most importantly whether or not the defendant consented to the delay, therefore waiving their right to later object. Aside from a speedy trial, defendants also have the right to a public trial, though it is not absolute due to circumstances of excess publicity that may cause harm. In addition to rights concerning the defendant’s trial, the accused also possess the right to a fair and impartial jury.
The questions at hand were complex, and involved citizenship and government aid, and had to take the public’s varied opinions into account, as well as the political makeup of Congress. The 13th Amendment freed the slaves, but gave the slaves nothing except their freedom. The 14th amendment defined citizenship, then not only made discriminatory legislation (such as black codes) illegal, but provided consequences for states that did not comply. The Reconstruction Acts, although too broad and expensive to be applied in their entirety, required that the former Confederate States ratify the 13th and 14th amendments, as well as submit redrafted state Constitutions in order to be readmitted to the Union. The 15th Amendment made it possible for people to vote regardless of “race, color, or previous condition of servitude”, making it a radical, although certainly not selfless, act that granted African-Americans political power
As per the 5th Amendment, it prevents against self-incrimination and double jeopardy and the 6th Amendment emphasizes on Criminal Prosecutions, where individuals have the right to a speedy public trial by an impartial jury, to
The 15th Amendment (Amendment XV), which gave African-American men the right to vote, was inserted into the U.S. Constitution on March 30, 1870. Passed by Congress the year before, the amendment says, “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.” Although the amendment was passed in the late 1870s, many racist practices were used to oppose African-Americans from voting, especially in the Southern States like Georgia and Alabama. After many years of racism, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 aimed to overthrow legal barricades at the state and local levels that deny African-Americans their right to vote. In the

This one repealed The Eighteenth amendment which banned alcohol. It is hard to imagine not being able to go out and have a drink with friends or even not being able to have a glass of wine with dinner. It must have been a very dark time in America for congress to even consider banning the

They stop the national government from interfering with the essential rights and civil liberties of citizens and they also accentuate how limited the national government’s power is. For instance, Amendment I guarantees the freedom of religion, Freedom of speech where the government cannot interfere with people’s personal beliefs. Another common amendment today is the 5th amendment which gives people the right to choose not to testify in court if they feel their own testimony will incriminate them, it also protects citizens from being subject to criminal prosecution and punishment without due process and protects people from being tried for the same case twice. Government’s power is limited through the bill of rights through the 3rd amendment which requires the owner’s consent when it comes to housing troops in their private homes which was something that was problematic during the American Revolutionary war. The Bill of Rights were added to the constitution due to the fact that citizens were unhappy because the constitution did not list the basic civil liberties of citizen’s and their individual freedoms.
6th Amendment I personally find that out of all the amendments the most important one is the 6th amendment. Reason being that it is crucial in aiding the judicial process from wrongly persecuting innocent people and it allows our democratic process to continue without preventing innocent people for taking the fall while punishing those who harm it. It keeps justice in check, keeping laws in line and rulings to be fair. The 6th amendment helps the defendants have an attorney when they are unable to afford one.
The first amendment of the Constitution guarantees certain rights to citizens. It guarantees the freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, freedom to petition, and freedom of assembly. These five freedoms are part of what makes our country so great.
