The Battle/Siege of Vicksburg The Battle of Vicksburg was one of the most crucial points in the Civil War. It helped Eradicate the Rebels/Confederacy once and for all. The Civil War was fought for over 4 years and it lasted from 1861-1865. It was one of the most horrific wars the world has ever known and witnessed.

The battle of Second Bull Run was fought August 28-30, 1862. The battle took place in prince William county Virginia (Manassas). John Pope was the major general for the Union side and later joined with George Brinton McClellan. The Major General on the confederate side was Robert E. Lee. There were 62,000 soldiers and 14,000 casualties for the Union and 50,000 soldiers and 8,000 casualties for the confederate.

The Battle of Hampton Roads was an important naval battle during the Civil War. Like the name states the battle happened right here in Hampton Roads where the Elizabeth and Nansemond Rivers meet the James River right before it enters the Chesapeake Bay. This battle is important for our region as it was the first time the ironclad warships, the USS Monitor and CSS Virginia met in combat. The battle was apart of the Confederacy’s plan to try and dismantle the Union blockade, which had cut off Virginia’s largest cities, Norfolk and Richmond, from international trade. The battle itself lasted only two days, March 8th and 9th of 1862.

The Ride to Shiloh When people recall the Civil War, the battle of Shiloh rarely rings a bell. People usually think of the Battle of Gettysburg or the first shots fired at Fort Sumter, while failing to realize the importance of the lesser known battles which left a considerable impact, the battle of Shiloh included. At the time, it was the bloodiest battle yet to occur in the Civil War. It made both sides realize that this war wasn’t going to be an easy fight, it was going to be costly and bloody.

The Civil War began on April 12,1861 and ended on April 9, 1865. This four year battle had more than 50 major battles occurred during this tragic time in history. On March 6, 1862 - March 8, 1862 an important battle took place that left the Union Army with a good strategical position for the rest of the war. This battle was fought in Pea Ridge, Arkansas. This battle is known as the The Battle of Pea Ridge.

The Civil War was a very brutal war that left hundreds of thousands dead. The Missouri Compromise started this war by placing a boundary that did not allow future slaves North of Missouri’s southern border. In 1859, John Brown, an abolitionist, tried to start a slave uprising which created tension between the South and the North. Also in 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States, which frustrated others because he was an abolitionist. An abolitionist is a person who doesn’t believe in slavery.

It was two years ago. Two long agonizing years that i had to deal with the agony of my son being hung in the Springfield Square. “Stop,” the officer screams, “put that food back!” December 5th 1906 my son Austin Girth made the horrible mistake of stealing food from the local market. Austin was only 13 at the time he stole the food.

The Battle Of Fort Sumter was the bombardment of Fort Sumter. The battle was on April 12-14 1861 near Charleston, South Carolina followed by Declarations of Secession by seven Southern states. South Carolina wanted the U.S Army to abandon its faculties in Charleston Harbor. On December 26 1860, Major Robert Anderson of the U.S. Army. A t4 ;30 bombs were hitting Fort Sumter and they were shot by the Confederates and after a thirty-four hours of fighting.

At the end of this siege there were a total of 37,402 casualties. This all shows how without the victory of Vicksburg by the Union, the war could have turned out completely

“On the afternoon of July 2,1863, the second day at Gettysburg, Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain led the 20th Maine Volunteers, fewer than 500 officers and men, up the steep slope of Little Round Top and into the pages of history.” ( Longacre, Civil War Times: “Chamberlain and the Facts”) . In May 1863, the turning point of the Civil War, Gettysburg, had begun with General Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia's second invasion of the North. On its second day, Lee ordered an attack on Union forces dug in just south of town. His men, fresh off a first day of fighting, stormed the Union army’s left flank, but they were repelled as a result Chamberlain’s famous bayonet charge down Little Round Top.

The Battle was fought on July 1-3, 1863 near and in the small Pennsylvanian town of Gettysburg. This Battle involved the most amount of casualties in the entire Civil War. The Union had both Generals George G. Meade and John F. Reynolds while the south only had Robert E. Lee as their commanding general. Small groups of both of the armies found each other at Gettysburg on July 1st. When news made it back to General Lee, in just a matter of hours, Lee moved a large sum of his troops to attack the Union head on.

Early in the War the Union won several key battles including Ft. Donaldson, Nashville, and the two-day bloody battle of Shiloh. They also captured bases for the blockade fleets and drove Confederate armies out of West Virginia but the

The battle of Vicksburg was waged for only 47 days, during May and June of 1863. General Grant’s troops besieged the city, having Lieutenant General John Pemberton and his troops captive until July 4, 1863, when Pemberton’s forces surrendered. So they ended the battle Importance

The Battle of Fredericksburg was fought on December 11-15th 1862. The Potomac Union soldiers, commanded by Ambrose Burnside, came into battle with over 100,000 soldiers ready for combat. For the Confederacy, the number of soldiers was about half of the Union’s amount with only around 70,000. This battle was the first Urban battle of the war, forcing citizens and families out of their homes and some into the woods.

The first battle of the civil war is called “First Battle of St Albans” which was fought on May 22, 1455. The result of this first battle was a York victory, the death of Edmund, and the capture of Henry VI. After this battle, there was a short period of peace. Though the York family was forced to flee on 1459 due to the dangerous risks of being assassinated.
