Along with changes within society, education experienced great changes as well. When World War I started, there was only about one million kids attending a high school. However, this number soared to over four million by 1926. With industry booming and the economy prospering, there was a need for higher skilled laborers. This is exactly what high schools became in the 1920’s, as they offered a big range of various courses for students who were interested in industrial jobs. Even immigrant children were now allowed to receive schooling, even though this would be the greatest challenge. When you are young, the world is supposed to be a beautiful place. It should be inspiring; allowing you to believe you can do anything, as long as you are willing to do the work. Schools are supposed to be the initial place you start to grow. Schools are were your mind is shaped, the place where you began to understand a lot of things, educators were willing to teach you and help build you up ; encouraging you to stay focus, wanting you to continue following your dreams. Nowadays, it seems as though children’s dreams and aspirations are fading.
Nearly 30 years later, the characteristics of the 1920s are present in repeating economic, political, and even social circumstances in the 1950s. Many portions of American history were transformed throughout these two memorable time periods, as the saying "history repeats itself" states. Looking back on the flourishing 1920s, many were relieved that the war was over and that life could return to normal. What happened in the 1950s was no different. The postwar prosperity and civil rights movement are the most widely recognized periods of these times.

The Progressive Era from the 1890s to 1920s was a period that experienced extensive social activism and political reforms across the United States. This movement was spurred by the heightened level of corruption and injustice of large corporations and in government at that time. " There were several pushes to make the political process more open and transparent. One of which was the adaptation of the direct primary elections and to grant the Presidents more powers to regulate new laws.
Education Reform There is no doubt that education has revolutionized the world. However, at one point in time, education was seen to be only for the rich and not a necessity to all like it is today. Receiving an education in the early 1800’s was not important in the grand scheme of things because the poor children were expected to work on farms or in factories to provide for their families. Therefore, since many Americans did not believe education was valuable, it took a great reform powered by one man to reveal the significance of schooling; this individual was Horace Mann. Under Republican administration, laissez faire capitalism incited the emergence of fundamental flaws within the manufacturing sector, as well as high tariffs. The 1920s carried much change in society. Some of these changes were more rights for women, jazz music, and prohibition. The people of the 1920s were disillusioned by society lacking in idealism and vision, sense of personal alienation, and Americans were obsessed with materialism and outmoded moral values (The Roaring Twenties).Cultural changes were strongly influenced by the destruction of World War I ending 1918. America needed to recover and with it youth rebelled against the norms of the older generations.
The 1920s were the first years of the new, modern America, with a growing consumer society and new ideas and rules. America saw many changes throughout this decade, including but not limited to social, economic and political changes. Throughout this time, new values were made with the growth of new forms of entertainment and education. After the Progressive Era, the ideas of political figures changed with a new focus on conservative politics and less labor issues. With the new ability for people to buy other products than basic needs, their money went to new inventions, causing new industries to grow.
The growth of high schools In the early 1900 science, civics, and social studies courses were added to public schools. New Vocational courses prepared boys for industrial jobs in drafting, carpentry, and mechanics. New vocational courses prepared girls for office work.

It raises another question what is higher education, and went on to talk about the changes in college education from 1920 to current day. College then was four year course and classes where worth 3 credits. The courses were not vocational unlike now. In 1920 only 2 percent were able to attend college if they choose to.

From improvements in the education system, to minor developments such as the changes in attire. Another major development was economic production.
