Prompt #3 Columbus sparked a movement of genocide and prejudice that lasted 500+ years. Before Columbus came, the America’s were a wonderland of diversity, culture and advanced technologies that would frustrate many, if you detailed their complexity. This is because many have learned about indians as barbaric, inferior beings, with a simple way of life. In the Margoline excerpts that we read, they stated “As one example of California’s extraordinary diversity, consider the matter of boats.
When Christopher Columbus finally saw land, he believed he was near the Indies. Therefore, when Christopher Columbus saw the people, he called them “Indios”. Christopher Columbus had goals, and he would do anything to achieve them. Christopher Columbus was ambitious for richies and wanted to spread Christianity. As a result, Christopher Columbus first question to the native people was is they had any gold.
In my opinion I feel as if the backlash occurred because of the prior events that the Native American population has encountered, they did not agree with Christopher Columbus because they were in a sense comfortable in their trades, survival, and land that they worked hard for. With that being said, the Indians have a negative view of Christopher Columbus and do not see the good in what he was doing. I am a celebrator of Columbus as I have also been taught in school of how courageous he was despite the hardships that were going on in the world at this time. However, until I read up on this I did not realize that Christopher Columbus in a sense invaded the Native Americans land I believe Christopher Columbus open the doors to many things through
Christopher Columbus is a man who is known in society simultaneously as a hero and a villain of his time. What if the world had to pick only one, what would it be? Many new studies and scholars believe that Columbus was the villain of his story not a hero as past information would lead us to believe. Past documents were all written from the Europe’s point of view, this would lead to extremely biased documents because Europe was the side to profit unlike the Native

If Christopher Columbus had just some of the technology we have today in 2016, how might this have changed his planning and carrying out of his voyages: What technological advances would have been most beneficial to Christopher Columbus? He authored a four-book biography of Columbus and portrayed him as a brave American hero. “Columbus was a man of great and inventive genius. His ambition was lofty and noble, inspiring him with high thoughts and an anxiety to distinguish himself by great achievements. His conduct was characterized by the grandeur of his views and the magnanimity [nobility] of his spirit.” Instead of writing, that Columbus was devastating to the newly found nation and that he sought to take over, cultivate and civilize the Natives.
Ever since its incipience, the boat has been one of the greatest inventions to ever aid humanity. Two civilizations that were known for their nautical excellence were the Byzantine Empire in Eastern Europe and the Norse Vikings of Scandinavia. The Byzantine Empire has been described as a maritime empire by numerous historians (Miller), and the Norse Empire’s naval advancements were a major reason for its success (Hadingham). Both empires were known for their technological advancements in the field of ship
Do you believe that we should celebrate Columbus Day as a national holiday? Do you believe he is a hero? or a Villain? Some people have different points of view when it comes to a question like this; sometimes, their opinion may reflect their religious beliefs or because of all the terrible acts against humanity in the New World. We also do have to remember that he did discover America; he started the Columbian Exchange, and brought many different values to this new world he just discovered. Even though I believe that he is a hero and we should celebrate him through a national holiday, I want to give you a chance to decide whether you think he is a hero or a Villain and choose if we should celebrate him as a national holiday.
Reformation was an important consequence of the printing press however, an even better and more important consequence was Exploration. Exploration was clearly the most important consequence of the invention of the printing press. The explorers of Europe have claimed they were the first ones to discover the “New World.” They traveled far looking for a short route to Africa but came across something else, the Caribbean.
Christopher Columbus was an explorer and navigator born in 1451 in Genoa, Italy. When Christopher Columbus crossed the Atlantic Ocean from Spain in 1492, he hoped to reach eastern Asia. He thought he had reached Asia when he landed on an island in the Caribbean Sea. In fact he had opened up to Europeans a new world with two continents—North America and South America—and many islands.
Have you ever met someone who was not who you thought they were? This has been happening throughout history. "America's Founder" Christopher Columbus is portrayed as a hero in history books but new studies have shown a different side of Christopher. Due to this evidence I believe that Columbus day should be revoked.
In 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue. We all know this catchy tune right? But what we don’t know, is what Columbus thought when he arrived in the North America or what he though of the Native Americans he met. In fact, we don’t know much about all the explorers after Columbus and what they thought. Each explore had their own view of the Native Americans, and three great examples are Columbus, Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda and Bartolomé de Las Casas
Some say Christopher Columbus was a hero because he was the explorer that discovered America. In reality, Christopher Columbus had an incredibly negative impact on the world because he enslaved the Native Americans, didn’t help the kind Natives when they got infected by diseases that the Spaniards had brought to America, and killed off most of the Native American population. The tactics he chose to use were violent and destructive by the standards back then and now. First, Columbus treated the Native Americans like uncivilized people by enslaving them and forcing them to work for him although they greeted him and his crew peacefully. ” They could make fine servants,”(document 2) he wrote in his journal,”I took them by force.
Eventually he was able to sail. He changed history by never giving up. If he had given up, we would not have everything that we have today, and people would not know about the new land until years or months after he found the land. In conclusion, I think that Christopher columbus is a hero.
Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in fourteen hundred ninety-two. When one hears the name Christopher Columbus, they tend to think about his discovery of America. What they don’t consider is how his discovery changed and affected America. First of all, Columbus’ discovery provided the start of a long term colonization, which created what we know today as America. People, who immigrated from another country, traveled all over the world to make it to America in hopes of getting land in “The New World”.
