The European Christian Church had a strong influence over the Medieval times and Middle Ages world. There is an abundance of research and documentation to show this. The Church hierarchy even contributed to the social hierarchy. During this time, the church, bishops, monks, and nuns taught all subjects such as grammar, art, and logic. When leaders such as Charlemagne sought to have their subjects educated, they had to turn to the church for help. This remained the case in France and elsewhere throughout Europe until the High Medieval Period which was 1000-1300 AD and continued even beyond that. They decided that their land was not enough. They wanted to conquer other lands so they sent people out on voyages to find new lands of wealth. One such voyage was when Christopher Columbus sailed west in search of riches. Columbus landed on an island he named San Salvador in 1492. This was where he met Natives. It was believed that the Natives should be taught and asked to follow Christian beliefs, thus bringing the European Church to the New World. The Natives as well as others that came into contact with explorers throughout the years were taught the beliefs of the European Church. They were taught that the Church claimed authority from God through Jesus Christ, bringing forth what is now considered Christianity.
