Walls Parenting Style In the memoir The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls, the Walls parent use permissive parenting style, they have little rules, being more nurturing and communicative, and strive to be their friends. The Walls parents have few demands of their children. Rex and Rosemary Walls only expect their children to stand up to fear and for themselves. The Walls parents don’t have and set rules for their children and only expect small things out of them.

For Ela this year I watched the movie The Incredibles and I really enjoyed it partially because it used 2 classes. The main character is Bob Parr A.K.A Mr. Incredible voiced by Craig T. Nelson his wife is Helen Parr A.K.A Elastigirl voiced by Holly Hunter they have 3 kids form oldest to youngest first is Violet Parr voiced by Sarah Vowel next is Dashiell ‘Dash’ Parr voiced by Spencer Fox and the youngest is Jack Jack Parr. At the beginning Bob and Helen are doing superhero work then they meet and decide to get married. All superheroes get sued and shut down because they are costing the government too much money.

This action of leniency in the discipline of the children, followed by the death of the parents, shows that the author thinks that parents need to be strict and stick with it, or there will be consequences that follow. “... he would reach back with his non-controlling hand and swat at her affectionately, and yesterday they’d shared a good laugh when he’d accidentally knocked off her glasses. (Saunders). This action retold by the mother shows that “well loved” kids, may actually be spoiled kids. The mother had an unrealistic ideology of how kids should be raised because her childhood was so dark, so she could not see that her kids were being rude to her.

Throughout the movie, Parenthood, the three main parenting styles were displayed throughout as, the dictator, permissive, and democratic. The dictator form of parenting, also known as the authoritarian parent sets strict rules and guidelines and will not changing them or give any leeway. Children that have authoritarian parents usually have low self-esteem and trouble to do things on their own when they get older. Then there is the permissive parent, who rather than setting rules and guidelines, opts out of this, their discipline is not seen and if they do set rules, they don 't punish when the rules are broken. There is also a balance of good parenting seen in the democratic form.

In the end, we see this sense of control, become domination as the kids take out their parents. In addition, in the film and story, from the beginning Lydia suggests that there is an issue and throughout the story is the driving factor of the therapist, the vacation idea, and the shutdown of the nursery.

The permissive parenting style best exemplifies Rex and Rosemary Walls’ parenting because they rarely discipline their children, they act more like their kids friends than their parents, and they do not believe in their children’s success. Rex and Rosemary didn’t concern themselves when punishing their children for doing bad things. “It was self -defense, I piped. Dad had always said that self- defense was a justifiable reason for shooting someone” (89). Most parents would have punished their children for shooting someone, so parents who wouldn’t are considered permissive parents.

Setting rules and boundaries with an authoritative attitude in parenting is essential. Letting a child have too much freedom does not end well. Children often get into mischief or serious trouble. The grandmother in HFSW gives the girl too much space and allows disrespect and defiance take place.

In the film the Incredibles is story about super-heroes Frozone, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl we learn this in the prologue. Mr. Incredible who is vigilante hero, and when they make a couple of mistakes they sue after helping people who didn't ask for help the government has to pay the fines. The disgruntled superheroes had two choices, either live as a super-hero or go into hiding many choose to go into hiding. So, in act 1 Mr. Incredible AKA Bob Parr gets married and we see him fifteen years later living a regular life where he works for an Insurance claims company he hates his job. Bob helps all his clients and shows them how to get their claims filed and processed and writes a lot of checks for the processed claims.
