When most people think of freedom that’s what they think of that, but when other people think of it I think of war, slavery, and kidnaped kids. Why I think it’s these reasons is because I have family that has been in a war. That,s why I think of war,slavery,kidnappings,poverty,and probably worst then that

America is a free country. Most days I won't think about it, but sometimes I'll thinkable how lucky I am to live in a free country. While the American government is often liked and respected for its democratic policies and freedoms established there, there are still problems that exist. The first Amendment is arguably one of the most important. It always us to take part in many of our daily activities, like debating politics, praying or not praying, going to GSA (Gay Straight alliance) after school, work where we want, go to church, burn the flag, and post on facebook. Growing up we were taught that we all have certain rights as citizens of the U.S. The Bill of Rights which includes the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution are America’s guidelines to these rights. The First Amendment give us our rights to freedom of religion and speech. This phrase “freedom of religion and speech” is a broad one, which is why we go into great detail about what it specifically covers. The establishment clause, free exercise clause, free speech, free press, and the right to protest are the liberties included.

In America, we are protected by certain laws and right. We have the Bill of Rights which protects certain freedoms that other countries do not get to experience. We are very privileged in that sense. Amendment four, five, six, and eight are called the Rights of the accused. They protect those against abuse by the federal government.

Religious Freedom As citizens of a freedom based country, the biggest freedom we often overlook and take for granted is our religious freedom. We don’t usually understand or comprehend what some people must go through to even pray in their own homes because they fear being prosecuted. There are nearly 5.3 billion people facing very harsh prosecutions for religion today, especially Christians. Even in the United States, though it is not illegal, there are places where religion is somewhat unacceptable and possibly banned.

The first question on my mind is what does it mean to preserve liberty in today’s America? The government bipartisan will argue this issue by immobilizing their political stance to formulate a bias definition of what America’s liberty represents and its definition once applied to everyday Americans. However, in its simplest form liberty means undiluted freedom. The freedom to act, to choose, to speak openly against the government without fear of repercussions or censorship. The vague and often times inferred context of the Constitution has made the preservation of liberty in America shaky especially in the present day international and domestic environment.

Similarly, these individuals who are in favor of balancing liberty over security also reference the ongoing IRS scandal, and how this also raises concerns about the concentration and abuse of power when it comes to government surveillance, (Sterner, 2014). All things considered, these people who side with civil liberties and believe that it trumps national security measures; generally hold a consensus that our constitution should protect us from these overreaching aspects of government surveillance. In addition to that, they fear that if such measure are not controlled properly we may become a society that has a government which holds all too much power and control; resulting in pushing the limits, just like we saw in the course materials on George Orwell’s 1984 and also just like we saw in the course materials on Plato’s critique of democracy.

When people think of America one of the first things that comes to mind is freedom. I personally think that freedom describes our country in a great way because that is one of the ideas that our country was built on. It gives us the right to make the choices we want, think what we want to think, and do what we want to do within the limits of the law. I think that in our country Freedom is often overlooked and some people often misuse it. In this day and age it is important to notice how people abuse freedom, what freedom looks like, and why freedom is important to the people of this country.

As Americans, we usually overlook the freedom and rights that we are given. Many people, if not all, go out to live their life and make choices without a second thought about the price of their so-called freedom. When America was first founded, we lived off of the five ideals that has been set up; equality, rights, liberty, democracy, and opportunity. Given the videos shared on social media sites and stories written and published by many newspaper articles, many people would agree that we have not lived up to these finding ideals. Liberty is given to us when we are born.
