The Impact Of Women's Suffrage

After the civil war, the main concern of Susan B. Anthony was the women’s rights, the main focus was to give them the same equality that men had in that time. Susan and Elizabeth met at the Seneca Fall Convention, this was the first woman’s rights convention held in the United States. This convention was held by Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton and after that convention the main focus of the movement was “The duty of the women of this country to secure to themselves the sacred right to the elective franchise”. Then, they formed another association called The National Woman Suffrage Association in 1869 in which later on they started working with another group called American Woman Suffrage Association where after, these two groups worked together to get the votes for all women and also to enforce the sixteen amendment for inequality between women and men. Another group formed to get the vote for women was The American Woman Suffrage Association but this group only focused on the rights to vote and after noticing that both groups had the same goal, they decided to become together and therefore make only one group called “The National Woman Suffrage Association”.

Ladies didn 't generally have the privilege to vote since women were viewed as lower than men. They weren 't permitted to vote since they were closed as uninformed. They additionally didn 't know much about legislative issues. To a few women were thought to be a laborer not a voter people felt that they don 't know anything about governmental issues. Without her contributions, women would not have the equal rights or opportunities we have today. The women’s suffrage movement started in 1848 to gain equal rights for women in several areas including voting, education, and pay. Anthony got involved in 1852 after meeting Elizabeth Cady Stanton and became dedicated to the cause. The first national convention for women’s right was on July 19, 1848.

Although they were unsuccessful in getting the vote, their failure led to the formation of a new, radical movement formed by Emmeline Pankhurst in 1903 called the Suffragette movement. This is evidence of the determination of both these movements as being a factor in getting women’s franchise. Women’s Rights Movement The Women’s Rights Movement in the 19th century was an effort by women protesting to gain equality with men. Women at the time were denied many rights. The rights movement first started in 1848 when a group of women met to discuss protesting, the first gathering of its time. During the movement women gained many rights that they were fighting for but It wasn’t until 1920 that all states ratified the right for women to vote, therefore wrapping up the 19th century Women’s Rights Movement. This Women’s Rights Movement was important for various reasons, but the most important reason was that if it wasn’t for this movement, today women may not have all the rights that they do.

The 19th amendment was established as a way for citizens to vote in elections and not be denied the right to vote based on their sex. This amendment didn’t just get passed overnight, years and years of creating organizations and protesting were put in place until this amendment got passed in 1920. Many organizations came together and broke apart, then reformed again. One example being the National American Women’s Suffrage Association (NAWSA) which was originally the National Woman's Suffrage Association and the American Woman Suffrage Association and came together in 1890. The NAWSA was lead by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Lucy Stone and her daughter, Alice Stone Blackwell.

Paul and other suffragists were arrested and sent to Occoquan Workhouse, in Virginia. These women were fighting for their rights to vote, to be as equal as men.

Women used many different methods to earn the right to vote in the Women’s Suffrage Movement. One method women used to earn support is that they organized a parade in Washington, D.C., the same day the president was coming into town so that there was large crowds. Many of the people in the crowd were men who, along with drinking also disagreed with the right for women to vote. They began to yell then even throw objects at the women walking in the parade. Eventually, the police walked away giving the men the opportunity to attack.

All women in the mid-1800’s couldn’t vote and weren’t deemed independent. Why work for low pay, a low array of careers, stuck at home, and outcasted in any manly thing such as owning a home.

The women 's suffrage movements became a mass movement in the United States and Western Europe by the end of the nineteenth century. Women in Europe were the first to have suffrage which was later followed by some other countries around the world.

During the war when the amendments were being put into place many women hoped that they would be granted the same right that were given to free slaves. Although it was a big step for African Americans. This then made the women’s movement have two separate parties one being the National Woman Suffrage Association and the other being American Women Suffrage Association. Both of these associations campaigned for women suffrage believing that it could only be acquired through a constitutional amendment and not just different states.

The women’s suffrage movement was a very difficult time for these women at the time. On June 20, 1908 is when the suffrage day happened and everyone was there including the women who wanted their right to vote. The women went through some difficulties to get their right to vote. Speeches were being given that day. Four years later a march happened.
