The Heros of the Holocaust: The Righteous Among Nations Although the German race as a whole is often blamed for the Holocaust, some Jewish citizens may have not been able to survive without their non-Jewish neighbors. Non-Jewish persons who strongly benefited the life of someone being persecuted during the Holocaust, are know as and rewarded the title, “Righteous Among Nations”. To be awarded this honor, one must have actively aided a Jewish person during the Holocaust, purely out of compassion rather than any means of personal gain. Those declared Righteous Among Nations in many cases put the lives of Jews before their own.

The Holocaust began many tragedies, many people dying and going through pain, being beaten and hung because they were jews. The Peace Resistance was to help many people get back to their old ways and connect back with their families if they had survived. Many jews were blamed for many things that were not true, they were treated the way there because non-jews believed Hitler and others who thought jews were not the perfect

Choices play a critical role not only in people’s daily lives, but in shaping history as well. The stronger those choices are, the greater impact they have on society. During the Holocaust, when the Germans considered themselves racially superior to the Jews and caused millions of innocent deaths, ordinary European citizens and perpetrators shaped history through their actions and inaction. While some stayed quiet, many brave individuals, called upstanders, decided to rescue Jews and other victims of persecution, based on their past experiences and from the goodness of their heart. These upstanders chose to rescue and assist a race marked for death, while knowing full well the harsh penalties for doing so.

The Holocaust lasted for four years, a mass genocide executed by Nazi Germany, with the goal to eradicate all Jews. Six million Jews were successfully murdered, and hardly anyone lifted a finger to help the thousands killed daily. Elie Wiesel was right in saying that 'Being a neutral bystander helps those who are evil; that remaining silent encourages even more evil to happen '. This is true, since evil always comes back and causes so many people so much pain.

The topic of the holocaust is what I am interested in for my research assignment. More specifically, I want to focus on the social aspect and the life of those inside the concentration camps. I want to learn about how life changed throughout the peoples time there rather than how they got there exactly. A tentative question I wish to answer would be along the lines of: “how did the survivors of the holocaust, whom lived in the concentration camps, actually survive?” I believe most people, including myself, have a general understanding that life in a concentration camp was horrible, so there must have been something that gave some people the will, hope, or luck to survive and I hope to find out what it was.

Chapter One When I finally wake the first thought that comes to mind is “What on Earth is that god awful smell?” Did someone forget to take the trash out? For a week? That’s when I blink my eyes and find myself on what looks like a dirty nasty cattle car. I am completely surrounded by people.

Introduction: During the Holocaust, many people suffered from the despicable actions of others. These actions were influenced by hatred, intolerance, and anti-semitic views of people. The result of such actions were the deaths of millions during the Holocaust, a devastating genocide aimed to eliminate Jews. In this tragic event, people, both initiators and bystanders, played major roles that allowed the Holocaust to continue. Bystanders during this dreadful disaster did not stand up against the Nazis and their collaborators.

Although the survivors were able to build new homes in their adopted countries. The Jewish communities had no longer existed in much part of Europe anymore.
