The Hate U Give is about a 16-year-old girl named Starr Amara Cater who has to shift between two different worlds. She has to go through a phase of difficulties because of her race which plays a big part in her life. Starr witnesses an eye-opening event that involves seeing her own friend get killed by a police officer. Unlike most people in her community, Starr decides to speak up about the event. She was one of the few who was able to speak up about this situation going on in society. That is why for a book to be valuable and relevant it has to have a purpose for someone’s own life understatement. As we grow older we tend to learn life lessons. The book The Hate U Give shows it to be valuable and relevant for high schoolers because they are able to relate to it somehow. The book The Hate U Give is relevant because it involves characters with who we find similarities. This makes us somehow more connected finding similarities like age involving the concept of growing up. The main character Starr Carter has been put in a difficult situation involving the death of her friend. This causes her to realize that “What's the point of having a voice if you're gonna be silent in those moments this makes us teens realize the capability we have to stand up for what we believe in.” Just like Starr Carter in the story, she understands that she has the opportunity to speak up for herself finally and that is what she turns out to be doing.
