The Great Gatsby The book The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, takes place in the Long Island and New York City in the Early 1920s. The city was divided into West egg that represents new money, and East egg that represents old money. The most significant theme in this book is love and desire. The young character Nick Carraway met Gatsby, who had a crush on Daisy.

The Great Gatsby is a book about a man named Nick and he lives next to his neighbor Gatsby. This novel in based in the 1990 centie and in the city of New York city on long Island, in two 2 areas known as, “West Egg”, and “East Egg”. Nick goes on to talk about Gatsby and gets to know him and things happen in the book where Gatsby in a bad situation. The book goes on to tell about Gatsby and Daisy a woman he is in love with.

I would consider myself intellectually curious, maybe not in a typical sense where I study a physics book every day or engage in Euclid's original math concepts, but I would still consider myself a thoughtful explorer. I may watch haughty TV shows like Family Guy sometimes or read books with no intellectual purpose like The Hunger Games, but I would still consider myself smart and a thinker. This past year I took a course that consisted mainly of research, Advanced Placement Seminar, and for most of the course I got to choose the direction in which my research would be conducted. The third chapter from the novel the Great Gatsby, in my opinion deserves the title “The Man behind the Myths” due to the many rumors and stories circling him and his ghost like appearances at his parties. Due to the narrator's, Nick, description of Gatsby and his actions during this chapter should be given this name. Throughout this chapter Nick speaks with and overhears many rumors about the party host, Gatsby. Not many people really know he is because he remains hidden within the abundant crowd which consumes his property.

Growing up, Francis Scott Fitzgerald had everything he so desired; as an adult his center of attention was on love, fame, glory, and money. Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was born September 24, 1896 in St, Paul, Minnesota. Francis father Edward Fitzgerald work as an wicker manufacturer in St. Paul. Edward failed as working as an wicker manufacturer. In a result of not being successful in wicker manufacturing business, him and his family moved to New York, Edward found a job as being “a salesman for Procter & Gamble”(fscottfitzgeraldsociety.org).

The Great Gatsby Novel and Films Novels and movies are very different but work together rather well. A movie shows the story and the novel tells it. The Great Gatsby novel goes more in-depth and helps the reader see the rhetorical purpose that F. Scott Fitzgerald wanted to get through. F. Scott Fitzgerald used many rhetorical strategies in The Great Gatsby to get his readers to understand the purpose of this novel, He used Imagery, metaphors, similes, personification, and more. The 1974 film The Great Gatsby did not really capture as much as the novel, it was rather strange and had many random things, and it was more out of order compared to the novel.

F. Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896, in St. Paul, Minnesota and died December 21, 1940, in Hollywood, California. Growing up, his father, Edward Fitzgerald, was a salesman for Procter & Gamble which caused his family to move back and forth between Buffalo and Syracuse, New York until Fitzgerald was twelve. In 1908, Fitzgerald’s father lost his job so they moved back to St. Paul and lived off of his mother’s, Mary McQuillan’s, inheritance. As a child, Fitzgerald was wise and his parents were proud of him. An article published by A&E Network says, “Fitzgerald was a bright, handsome and ambitious boy.”

The Great Gatsby begins with a man named Nick Carraway. He rents a house in the West Egg District of Long Island. Nick’s next door neighbor is a mysterious man who goes by the name of Jay Gatsby. He lives in a gigantic mansion that

The Great Gatsby is set in New York during the early 1920’s before the Wall Street crash, not long after the first World War. Many of the American soldiers did not get home for a long time after the official end due to them helping to rebuild the rest of the world. As we learn Nick is long home from the war himself before moving in next door to Jay Gatsby on West Egg. Nick’s old friend Tom and cousin Daisy live across the body of water on East Egg, where the ‘old money’ lives. East and West Egg are based on the Great Neck and Port Washington peninsulas on Long Island.

The Great Gatsby takes place in the 1920’s in the West and in the East Egg. Many of the inhabitants of the upscale towns descend from old money and value high social statuses. However, Jay Gatsby defies the stereotypical residents of the West and of the East Egg. He is a man of wealth and a mysterious character who hosts elaborate parties every weekend. Gatsby’s wealth not only attracts his neighbor, Nick Carraway, and Daisy Buchanan, his old love interest, but, the entirety of the West and of the East Egg.

It has been a long evening waiting for the arrival of Nick. I am very anxious to hear about his night out with Jordan. I have impatiently been walking around all day waiting for my chance to speak with him. Every single light in my house was on in hope that Daisy Buchanan would notice; after all I bought this house across the bay from her so she would be able to see me.        

F. Scott Fitzgerald is most remembered for his portraits of young people who made up the Jazz Age. The Great Gatsby was published in 1925, and is presented as the greatest literary fiction novel of its time. The novel is comprised of everything which can be described as the “roar” of his era: money, ambition, crime, rebellion, and greed. All representing the “Jazz Age”. The story takes place in the middle summer of 1922, when Nick Carraway – who’s perspective is used throughout the book – moves to West Egg on Long Island, New York.
