There is many things about the War of 1812 that Americans should know today. Although the name can be very deceiving, the war lasted a total of thirty-two months, not just a year. The famous Star Spangled banner was written by Francis Scott Key during this war. Although Americans have listened to this anthem hundreds of times, many probably don't realize that Key was literal when describing "rockets' red glare" and "bombs bursting in air".
