After the American Revolution, the formation of a new government was precedent. Federalists were afraid of disorder, anarchy, and chaos; the unchecked power of the masses, and sought for the constitution to create a government distant from popular passions. On the other hand, antifederalists were more concerned about the dangers of concentrated power. Equally, the antifederalists opposed the constitution because of the obstacles between the people and the exercised power, which is why federalists supported it. Hamilton was the Leader of the federalist party while Jefferson was the leader of the Republican party.

July 4th, 1776, the United States declared its independence from Great Britain through the Declaration of Independence. Before long, series of documents, alongside the declaration, were constructed to rectify the conflict that had long existed between authority and liberty. The documents strived to resolve the tension by establishing a strong, representative government. The government would possess enough power to make decisive changes while also protecting and preserving the liberty of the people.

It would have been difficult to understand what the colonies and the British were going through during the revolution. I understand why people, such as, John Dickinson were conflicted when it came to American independence. To add to your reasons why Dickinson felt the way he did towards American independence, Dickinson felt the best thing for the colonies was to form an alliance with Great Britain. He felt one day “provinces would rise up against provinces and cities against cities,” to fight a common enemy, which would result the colonies to resort back to Britain, even though we once rejected them. In addition, he felt that separating us would give us dependence and not independence.

The Declaration of Independence is a letter to King George III of Great Britain from the American Colonists who are upset of their poor treatment. The Colonists develop their claims by listing what the King has done unfairly, then explain their previous attempts to petition.
