Into the wild is a biography and nonfiction book written by Jon Krakauer. The book is about the journey of Christopher Johnson Mccandless ( Alex )journey throughout the west coast of the USA. Christopher’s journey takes him places such as the the snowy state of Alaska, and the mountainous terrains of the Sierra Nevada’s. The main protagonist Christopher Mccandless is 24 years old, and believes that life is best lived alone. Testing his theory Christopher goes to live alone in the western US, until testing his limits and venturing to Alaska.

The past experiences of the main character, Chris McCandless, had an extraordinary effect on his life and the gradual end he met in Fairbanks bus 142. Between Chris and his father, Walt, there was a lot of tension. Chris had always been livid towards his father for his actions that put a massive strain on the whole family. Ever since that tragic event occurred, Chris’s childhood was never the same. This event influenced his personality, similar to how his early exposure to the wild also impacted him.

Chris McCandless had to find out who he truly was as an individual by leaping out into the wild and isolating himself. The inspirations of Jack London, Henry David Thoreau and Leo Tolstoy guided Chris into the wild of the unknown to search for true bliss and meaning to his life. He believed that that in order to be one with oneself you must remove yourself out of society and push yourself physically and mentally to take in and comprehend the fullest understanding of life. Chris grew up never worrying about money, easily relating to Tolstoy in the sense of their family being well supported.

That started the summer he graduated from high school. His parents explained, “He could be generous and caring to a fault, but he had a darker side as well, characterized by monomania, impatience, and unwavering self-absorption, qualities that seemed to intensify through his college years (120).” The event that created Christopher to become more isolated was the father keeping a secret of having another family. After finding out about his father secret family Christopher started containing a dark side that wanted no part of human contact. He wanted ultimate freedom from individuals and society that led him not wanting to have any long-term intimacy relationships with the individuals he met throughout his journey.

Raising a child like Christopher is very difficult. Christopher often disappears in the middle of the night to go out for walks and quickly becomes overwhelmed in new environments. For the better well-being of Christopher, Ed tends to be very overprotective of him. An example of this is shown when Christopher wants to do detective work to find out who killed Wellington. This idea suggests that Christopher has to talk to strangers which he is not comfortable with.

And yet this concealment of emotion dissuades those who would offer friendship in spite of his lineage, leaving him alone. Despite his attempts to ignore his solitude, to not let this loneliness affect him, he is human after all, and Christopher does not know how to simply turn off sentiment. This incapability frightens him, it is a weakness and in his world of darkness, a weakness can simply not be afforded. So he hides it best he can, holding it tight between his fingers and never letting go. It grows within him as he matures, and the stinging seed of loneliness grows into a bitter flower of resentfulness as those around him leave him seperate from their games and

Christopher and his father live together, while his mother lives in New York with her new husband. Christopher has some mental health problems, but continues to strive as he is very adventurous and curious. Throughout the novel, Hadden uses characters, diction, syntax, and imagery, to develop that you can always get better at conquering a fear if you step out of your comfort zone, by showing how Christopher conquers his and things that make him uncomfortable. He works through these fears and gets better at being less sensitive and more brave.

Christopher explains that he has difficulty figuring out people’s emotions from their facial expressions. He can easily recognize sad and happy faces, but when his therapist, Siobhan, draws some pictures of other emotions, he finds the faces are confusing and is “unable to say what these meant” (3). So he has to memorize the exact meaning of each face and quickly determine what face others are making when they talk to him. When his father lies to him about his mother’s death, he tries to figure out what he means how and his father feels: “I can't tell what [people] are thinking. It is like being in a room with a one-way mirror in a spy film''(22).

Throughout the book Christopher overcomes all obstacles, big and small. Though some obstacles are small it still shows the reader that Christopher is willing to make the necessary changes for a positive outcome. One small obstacle that made a big impact on the readers

The novel is an autobiographical murder mystery narrated from the perspective of a teenager, Christopher Boone. This text allows the readers to see the life of a young man who is not comfortable with interacting with others in his society. Christopher's autism spectrum disorder (ASD) shapes our understanding of experience. Haddon is able to portray interesting ideas within the text through the narrator, thus inviting us into a different world and allowing us to see a new viewpoint.

In the book "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time", the character Siobhan is the most influential character to Christopher because she is helpful and trustworthy, which has given Christopher a good reliable person to talk to and work out his problems in life. Throughout the book Siobhan has helped Christopher in many different cases therefore being a very important character to Christopher. Christopher tells us how "I got Siobhan to draw lots of these faces ...When I told Siobhan that I was doing this, she got out a pencil and another piece of paper and said it probably made people feel very, :{ and then she laughed.... And Siobhan Apologized." (Haddon 3)

Christopher, who has asperger 's syndrome, is pushed to his limits while uncovering deep family secrets. Throughout this book, the author, Mark Haddon, uses the first person narrative through the eyes of Christopher to explain the world in his eyes. A first person narrator is helpful for showing how a character develops, increasing the believability of the story, and connecting the readers to the main character Mark Haddon chose to write with first person to show Christopher’s thoughts and ideas to the readers. Since Christopher has asperger 's, his mind is always thinking about different situations and past experiences.
