The Cuban Revolution: The Rise Of Sandino's Rise To Power

The clip Revolutionary Leaders is about the Mexican revolution, what caused the war and the two main leaders of this war. The revolutionary leaders were Emiliano Zapata, who was in charge of the south and Francisco (‘Pancho’) Villa, who was in charge of the north. Both men wanted land reform and a weaker central government, but had different views for the land reforms. The people of Mexico were not happy with their government.

This text scratches the surface of the real issues in Latin American history but does not help the reader take the next step in understanding it. The UNC scholar falls flat in organizing the mess that is Latin American history but does an admirable job in setting up readers for more advance text

The book That Infernal Little Cuban Republic, focuses on the relationship between both Cuba and the United States. A lot of the contention between Cuba and the United States stems from the American view that every country is in need of our assistance. The author details how American officials asserted themselves into Cuba and with their presence in most cases did more harm than good in reference to the Cuban population. The book highlights that the U.S. government supported many policies in Cuba that were undemocratic leading to their citizens suffering politically, economically, and socially. After Castro took power the relationship between the two governments suffered immediately.

Theodore Roosevelt, 26th president of the united states 1901-1909 became a hero of the Spanish American war. America had become interested in the Cuba liberation in the 1890 as publication portrayed the evil of Spanish rule. Tomas Estrada Palma he was a Cuban political figure. He served as the first president of Cuba between 1902 and 1906. Estrada Palma was captured by Spanish troops and sent into exile.

“To hunt them down, the government responded with scorched-earth campaigns, pacifications programs and paramilitary death squads, often with assistance from the US Special Forces advisers” (137-138). This caused in 1976 more than twenty thousand deaths, also the spread of this to the countryside. The outcome is what the government wanted them to become powerful to produce this sham election. The US went to help the government for politics, but now the relations between the two are very different. Reading some articles I saw that the “US urges citizens not to travel to Cuba, cuts embassy safe and halts visa processing” (Chicagotribune).

Throughout history the inferiority of women has been prevalent for hundreds of years, and some countries tried to close the gap, one of them being cuba which ensued, following the overthrow of Fulgencio Batista, Fidel Castro now began to implement his vison for Cuba based off of his communist ideologies. Like Mao Zedong in China Castro looked towards women being one of the groups for support in Cuba. By 1990 many had felt that women’s lives had been changed for better, and now were able to partake in learning and jobs that weren’t available to them before the revolution; however others argued that more had to be done to remove the fragments of patriarchy that had still existed; Although it appeared the revolution had advanced the equality for women in

With this much money invested in a country, it’s hard to not get involved when a rebellion is breaking out. There were many causes of revolutions in Latin America and Europe in the 1800’s. So many people around the world wanted change. What do the people do to get what they want? They force change and this leads to a revolution. The main man who stepped up for South America was Simon Bolivar.

Growing up in Cuba, boys and girls were freely allowed to play with one another. Many girls would climb big trees to get fresh savory mangos. They would fall and scrape their knees while playing hide and seek and even play sports which were considered “manly”. Many girls preferred to work outside the house, they would perform jobs such as; repairing a broken fence or painting the house. Boys were never told not to play with the girls, in fact, they would also help out around the house and clean dishes after a meal.

During the 20th century, many social movements spread throughout Latin America pressuring for social, economic, and political change. Amongst many social revolutionaries in the region, the most crucial are Zapatismo in Mexico and Perónismo in Argentina. Zaptismo is the movement associated with rebel leader Emiliano Zapata about the ideas of agrarian land reform. Perónismo is the phenomenon that came out of Juan Perón’s presidency that is linked to the “working class” of Argentinean society. While both of these social movements were noted in helping the lower social class, the leaders used different approaches to carry out their ideas, some being more successful than others.

When one looks at all the revolutions the earth there are many differences. Evry revolution is different but every revolution have one thing in common, one group of people is being oppressed by another. For this essay we are supposed to compare two different revolutions to the American Revolution. The two others I chose are the Cuban revolution and the Haitian revolution. To begin, I will look at a little back ground of each revolution and then the main cause.

The Latin American revolution as well as the Haitian revolution were led to gain independence from the colonial power of France, Spain, and Portugal. Phase 1 of the guerrilla warfare principles emphasise on the importance of popular support, which Castro strongly related to. Additionally, the warfare encouraged troops to fight on land that is not only readily available, but an area rebels have cohesive knowledge on. Guerrilla warfare has proved to be successful method of initiating liberty on numerous occasions. It worked for Tito in Yugoslavia, the Viet Cong in Vietnam and certainly for Fidel Castro in Cuba. The Cuban Revolution was successful in toppling the corrupt Batista dictatorship and getting the Cosa Nostra (a major crime syndicate in Sicily) out of Cuba. The Cuban Revolution was and is not successful however, in making Cuba a free land and a good place to live for everyone. It benefited just the communist party leaders. At first the Cuban people thought they were fighting from freedom, and that they were trying to free themselves from Batista and the United States. However, what most of the cuban people didn 't know it was that it was all a lie.
