During this last semester in American Literature, I unequivocally believe that I deserve a solid A. (claim) From the consistent punctuality of assignments, to the effort of sustained attention to class, I have reached an educational pursuit within your classroom, strengthening my writing capabilities. I have grown not only as a student but as a person, exploring the different parts of literature such as transcendentalism (Thoreau/Emerson and Into the Wild), American tragedies (The Crucible), dramas (The Miracle Worker), and even a picaresque novel (The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn). I have accomplished many things this year, gained some of my best grades yet, and produced deep insight regarding multiple topics throughout. Since the beginning …show more content…
For instance, one of the, one of the first assignment of this semester, “The Crucible- synthesis presentation,” I received a score of 100. (evidence/data) I thoroughly believe that I reached significantly deep within this project to expose and tie together the whole idea of the project. As quoted, “With these events unfolding, it was only necessary for people to look up to their perceived authority figure for guidance. Historically, obedience was imbedded in every political system,” I encompassed both the obedience factor and the historic factor which was exactly the request in the assignment. I worked on this project for nearly two weeks, sifting through multiple complex ideas and boiling them down to one informative presentation. Not only that, but I went above and beyond incorporating both statistical information and moral interpretations, flawlessly meeting the required 4-5 minute prerequisite. (evidence/data) Moreover, my presentation was personally selected to be put on …show more content…
From the beginning, I maintained a mindset that I would put forward nothing but my utmost best in hopes to achieve the best grade possible, which I surpassed. Most (qualifier) of my assignments were done in advance with the exception of one, that I did the same day but was still turned in on time. I can confidently state that I turned in each assignment on time resulting in zero late penalties to my grade. When the opportunity arose to revise a piece of work with the possibility to receive a higher score, I took the occasion seriously and sought out other opinions to aid in the modification and explore other interpretations. (evidence/data) When assignments and test/quiz material became available, I always kept note of the work and began preparing my study material and practiced. Once finished with the assignment, I would go back several times and reread it and compare it to the grading rubric. This presents my personal perfectionism and concern to the task at hand. (warrant) My biggest downfall this semester would be my lack of vocal participation within the classroom. I did provide some (qualifier) cooperation depending on the subject, either asking questions or stating opinions, to aid in the class discussion. Although others might think that my lack of participation in the class hindered my performance, I truly believe in the power of listening, interpretation and writing. (rebuttal) Finally, not once
We had to really hone in on the reason we were doing this project. The purpose and delivery was so important in this journey and even when we knew where we wanted to go with the project we had to make sure the video accurately captured our focus. My group and I had various themes throughout our papers and at first I thought it would be impossible to find a way to find a connection between them. Eventually we found something that might seem simple or but allowed us to incorporate a lot of our work into one single video.
1. What aspect of the project did you most value or appreciate? The aspects that I most valued and appreciated the most was researching about my chosen candidate and decorating/creating the poster. I have always admired Michelle Obama (my chosen candidate) as the First Lady from the way she spoke, but I did not know much about her. Thus, I really appreciated that this project required me to do in-depth research about her.
Of course I am not trying to make up excuses on why I did so poorly, throughout this semester I have been dealing with my own internal problems and also illnesses. I have been dealing with family problems such as, potential divorces and differences in the family that have been arising
Creating and delivering the presentation helped me express my views on what I learned. I was able to inform the audience of the severity of the issue and give them insight into just how big of an impact the Columbine shooting
The Crucible Inside every piece of poetry or drama, there was always a beginning, middle, along with an end at least according to Aristotle. The 3 divisions are also called the Three-Act Structure which was developed by Aristotle, and was also altered by Aelius Conatus, a Roman, who proceeded to call the beginning protasis, the middle epitasis, and the end catastrophe. The Three-Act Structure has gained more reputation in recent years through cinema blockbusters, as well as hit TV shows. The Five-Act Structure is the Three-Act Structure but drawn out.
As a student I have many Weaknesses however I also have strengths which can help me overcome my weaknesses. One of my weaknesses is time management I tend to waste time watching my favorite Tv shows or spend time on social media. Another weakness I have is I tend to loose focus and get bored. those are some weaknesses I have which make me a bad student. In order to overcome those weaknesses I have started being more organized than I ever was, I use things like calendars and planners to mark important dates so I wont forget.
For my To Kill A Mocking Bird project I did the 10-15 aphorisms. I think that I deserve a A- for my project. My rationale for this project was to learn and understand more about the aphorisms in the book. The steps I took to complete this project was look over the book and find my favorite aphorisms. One of my favorite aphorisms that Atticus said is "Before I can live with other folks I 've got to live with myself.
It has come to my attention that my grade in your English class is one point away from an “A”. While I would take this grade as a learning experience, my transcript is now a gateway to college. The programs that I am applying to are competitive, admitting only the best. Having straight "A"’s throughout my High School career would add tremendous respect to my application. I deserve to be treated as an A student in your class due to my exceptional work ethic and skills.
English 102 Reflection During the course of English 102, I took this year of the spring semester. I have accomplished a variety of goals I once thought were impossible. I have not only grown as a writer and a student but as an individual as well. I feel that through my experience of this English course, I have achieved knowledge and self-confidence to step out into the real world.
I chose to do the movie “The Crucible” which was directed by Nicholas Hytner. Also, it was produced in 1996. As we all know, Hollywood can change ideas of movies and/or events that happened in real life. The Salem Witch Trials were a real thing and it was a very unfortunate event that caused many to lose their lives. The Salem Witch Trials have always fascinated me because I find it very interesting how they can accuse somebody on causing something very serious such as fire, death or even droughts.
As each writing assignments is graded, I realize how much I have improved as a writer by the grade and the fewer mistakes that I have made in them. As each time the grammatical and spelling mistakes are fewer on each paper. I want to share how I have grown as a writer on second semester by being in class and reflecting on my previous assignments. Even though there weren’t many writing assignments this semester. There were some assignments that I have done poorly on.
Firstly, I would like to say that I have had an amazing semester learning from you and my other professors as well. The Fall 2016 semester was awesome and knowledge filled. However, when I enrolled in this course I knew that my writing and punctuation skills would be challenged. I love English, but this is an area that I need to work on improving. I have many academic achievements that I am proud of: I have received an honorable mention and good standing each semester, I have a 3.61 GPA, I made the Deans' list, and I completed this semester with all A’s and B’s.
The project I’m most proud of is probably my first semester college algebra project. I invested a lot of time on the project, making sure I had everything done correctly. Although I didn’t get a good grade on it, I know that I invested time and put hard work in it. The assignment that was not as good as I expected, was my Macbeth essay. I was under pressure, since it was part of my English final.
I thought I could coast through any class regardless of the amount of work assigned by the instructor. I packed studying into a few short hours the night before the upcoming exam. I was never too serious about having the perfect schedule set up for myself, always picked and chose available classes that would eventually contribute to my overall degree. I never tried to create a schedule that utilized my time properly, and usually constructed schedules that added to my laziness. I was blinded from seeing my true priorities.
In 9th and 10th grade my studying habits were very poor and it showed tremendously on test and quizzes. 11th and 12th grade I took the initiative to learn how to study and not procrastinate. This was a challenge for me because test and quizzes took up the most percentage over classwork and homework which means one test or one quiz could drop your grade
